The neck plate is F stamped. I can see it.
I still love the colour combo on this bass....and not expensive...although still see the same high end basses for sale week after week, not a lot a spare ash rolling around for toys? ....F stamp....you can see it?.... it must be my old eyes, which pic can you see that in? ....I also can't see a body end truss rod adjustment, which is why I requested a close up of the body, could be there, but I'll never know, and for £1200 slices I ain't begging the vender for a 5 minute photo? Should the head end of the neck have a walnut plug visible?
I am selling my lovely raspberry red yamaha bb 414, it is in fantastic condition, only a tiny chip on the back of the headstock. Bought a year and a half ago as a back up bass, and because I liked the tone. It really has hardly been used, just a couple of gigs and maybe two dozen rehearsals at most. Just been restrung with a set of rotosound swing bass hybrids. Looking for £200, cash on collection Ideally pick up only, though I may be able to arrange a courier or something if really needed. (the reason there are no photos is because i only have the crap camera on my phone, if people really want to see pics then i will try to put some on) I am also selling an Ashdown Evo II ABM 575W 210 combo (comes with blueline speakers not sure if thats standard or not) for £400. More details for that on the amps and cabs section. I am selling this stuff because i am going off to uni in september, and I can only take one bass with (hence the bb being sold) and there is no way I could have that big ashdown in my room! It's a shame as i am getting a good sound out of the kit, but I can't afford to keep it
rare to find a BB414 in Raspberry red, must look nice, that colour's usually a BB614 hue and rare at best of times. good luck with the sale

had to share this with some funk lovers, I have been trying to play this for over a week by ear, great fun to play, but to play with ALL the busy bits in there in the right order is something else...and this guy has it nailed enjoy

there is a great US P bass timeline thread on the Ebay links, then something else cropped up which makes some fakes very obvious...the position of the neck adjustment, head end or body end (or should that be heel?) can anyone say 'for sure':- 1/ where the adjustment should be for a given year, or spread of years? 2/ does it differ for P bass/Jazz/Tele bass? 3/ does the adjustment position change for maple and rosewood fretboards? 4/ does it change for painted finish? 5/ anything else we should know? and if a 77 sunburst P bass with maple neck should have body end adjustment, well I think I will simply give up my search for a late 70's sunburst with maple neck and pass the job on to Hercule and his grey cells... many thanks
Truss rod adjustment is at the base of the neck on a "genuine" from this period the head should be plugged.
thanks for that 1/ when do they go to head end adjustment 2/ ....ohh and from when to when for body end adjustment ...this info would be great be on the Fender timeline
I bought a fake. There was a thread about it at the time. I saw a CIJ Fender P-bass online for £350 that looked believable. It was £25 for Parcel Force 24 delivery and when it arrived 8 days later it had been sent Parcel Force 48. The second I opened it I realised I had a rebadged Squier VM bass. The seller was a complete fraud about it and suddenly it was being sold on behalf of somebody else etc, they knew nothing about guitars etc. EBay to their credit (& this was pre-credit crunch so they don't offer this service now) refunded me, banned the seller and let me keep the bass. I sold it on as a rebadged Squier (on here as it happens). It was actually a nice bass but I couldn't really keep it after all that. Interestingly EBay didn't seem that interested at first until I mentioned the postage being 48hr when I paid 24hr - then suddenly all my comments on Tuning pegs, neck finish and volume knobs were completely believed. I had to check about 4 times that they were happy for a refund AND for me to keep it. As I said, it's not a service they've offered since. Must have cost a fortune.
...I've never had cause to complain to fleabay.....in a nutshell what can they/will do about something like this nowadays?
The large majority of vintage guitars sold in the USA over the last 15 years haven't been bought by musicians, they've been bought by non-players with high salary jobs. Most of the really desirable Fenders & Gibsons are out of the price range of your average player, and the crap you couldn't give away 20 years ago is heading that way too.
....maybe this is why these fakes seem to get sold, they are bought by people who know a vintage Fender is worth a few quid but wouldn't a Sue Ryder from '71 P bass and think they are getting possible bargain from fleabay descriptions like, "'Fender 1971 but not sure as don't know anything about guitars, make your one mind up but no reason to think otherwise" type listings....just like any other they appeal to greed..
It certainly gets about, this one. It started off in Aberdeen where it sold for £331. Then it reappeared in Letchworth and sold for £370. And now it's for sale in Leeds.... All sold by different sellers, all of whom coincidentally used the same pics and schpeil.
must be a good one if it's that popular , bit like the Golf GTi I saw at auction with 23 previous keepers....making the next buyer the 25th owner....

ohh, well that's me out, got to be viewed in person from the answer...that's only a 5 hour + drive for me.... only asked for 4 photo's, a serial number conformation and how long owned, got none of that...
-
that's what caught my eye, could well be the camera angle....and almost too clean for 24 years old...no, no, I must be getting paranoid! Asked for better close ups.
Hi All, I know the forum is full of talk about top notch amps, (i'm not knocking it) But I can only afford a budget combo but then again it is only for bedroom use. So can someone please give me their thoughts on a Peavey max 112 combo against a Laney rb3 combo both have phono inputs and headphone socket which I need. So I would like to know what people think........Thanks.......Pete.
if it's only for bedroom use....have you considered a VOX Amplug...gota an input for the Ipod, so you can play with music, I've got one and I think it's a great little tool?
I really want to buy an old P bass but unfortunately have resisted because I would not be able to tell a fake. This is making me very frustrated as the Market ( eBay ) seems to be flooded with fakes.
me too....and when buying blind, even harder

know bugger all about Laney.... but just been having a go on late '90's Peavey TNT115 BW with the black widow speaker....I gota say I'm very, very impressed...built like the proverbial brick shithouse, if ever they drop the bomb, I will pull that BW speaker out and use the cab for a nuclear bunker for the family, the one here has casters and side handles, it's heavy and needs them! Don't see much negative about Peavey gear, except some fashion victims say they aren't cool ...not sure why....? .....everything has a nice quality feel to it, lovely pots n switches, even a cable tidy on the back for the mains lead....I know Peavey PA gear seems very popular with the live acts we see 'round here, and I've seen a few TNT's gigged too...we aren't talking the Albert Hall, small social clubs, pubs etc. ....I thought by the nomenclature (!) it would be 100 watt with 1x15" or something, they are, according to the manual, a full 160 watt RMS (sounds louder!) and a 1 x15"....but even though there is only the 1x15" it can handle slappy highs really well. I think the later TNT's may have a tweeter or high frequency horn, but can't be sure, there is a good Peavey forum to check? .....plenty still kicking about for sale on Fleabay/Gumtree which must say something about their durability too...... .....my Ashdown EB12-180 EVO, lush little amp as it is, with a lovely warm tone, sorta looks like a toy in comparison , although much easier to pull about

...I mean, with so many seemingly kicking around, surely someone here must have unknowingly bought one or know someone who has.....got to be a few stories. Being car dealer, all this reminds me of the Lotus Cortina's and Mini Cooper's, Ford GT-40's etc..at one point there were more GT-40's registered than were originally built...strange but true
-
at least you got an answer , I feel snubbed

has this information been verified by Norfolk Vintage Guitars...? well done, long overdue, many thanks for taking the time out to do this
