2.
Definitely fake! truss rod adjustment on headstock a give away.
what is wrong with it? cheers
3. bought a new speaker from Ashdown for my EB.....turned up very next day, but looked like it had been sat on by a City Link elephant!!! ...called Ashdown this morning to ask about replacement and would they like too see the photo of the sad speaker...they called straight back...will arrange straight refund, no questions asked. ...not Ashdown's fault the speaker was broken but just nice guys to do business with which can be so rare nowadays...as for City Link....well...

Fender
It would be very interesting to get a number of Fender basses - say 6 jazz or precision basses in a range of prices from the cheapest to the most expensive and have them all set up with the same strings, action etc. Then let players test them through the same amp with the same settings in the same room - blindfold. Those players would then be asked to rate the basses in order of preference - I would love to see the results.
would be very interesting... and oldie but a goodie vid.... this came closeish as an ABA (well not at all really!) but it seems it wasn't a level playing field as flatwound strings v rounds can't be....but comparing a jazz v a jazz they all do sound very close to my poor hearing. In Fenders defence, I used to be very anti-Fender, expensive for no good reason blah blah etc....but now I one one, a cheap MIMP, well I really adore my MIM P bass and it does feel so damn comfy, like ya worn out jeans, compared to the rest of my fleet...simply put you know ya gonna get a good/proper bass with a Fender, no nasty surprises, so to me it's worth paying a little more....bit like Coca Cola and Asda Smartprice....they taste similar, but not the same... Anorak caveat:-....yes, please, I already know, they are mass produced and there will be a bum one around
5. lesson learned! new speaker turned up .....damaged in transit....bent at side...bugger....but works for moment .....put it in combo, loose fit....no difference...got 3 mates who are sparkies...2 had a quick peak but nothing found....so thought.....get a another amp......(sorry Andy) ....get an early morning txt from last guy....loose spade connector wire....! She up n running again....just like cars it's normally something stupid
6.
I don't consider 27kg (60lb) to be light. I have the same combo and have sometimes wondered in the past whether they should have built it with two side handles instead of one top handle, because in my opinion it's pushing the top end of the scale for a comfortable one-hand carry. S.P.
eat more spinach ....I didn't think's that's too heavy, compared to some for what you get?
7.
I have the same problem with a different cab in that I need to replace a speaker. My view would be to replace exact like for like unless you really know what you are doing internally with the cab and port sizes. If you can't get a replacement or really need the power increase/capability then you should look at alternatives, but if they are available, get the proper speaker that the cab was designed for.
Yeah, thanks for the tip, I've gone for an Ashdown straight replacement....£50 with vodka and tonic + PnP ...did go down the route of a Eminence Beta 12", but according to programmes for determining speaker to cab to tuning, this wouldn't have suited (?) aalthough I'm sure my ears wouldn't have noticed! ...I never knew there was so much involved in matching speakers to cabs I must add, Ashdown are very easy to deal with....good to have them so close
8. thanks for the tip, checked the cable....she works OK though, it's jsut very annoying with sound down very low. Is the Delta an Eminence Speaker? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Eminence-Delta-12LF-...=item2eb3f0b1e3
9. I really like my Ashdown EB-12-180 EVO....very light too, does everything I need and some....seen a few used over here for small gigs. ...be even better when she gets a new speaker, poor old girl, I fear she done some hours since 2007!
10. ....it's got the fatest tone so maybe the telebass one killed it..rattles worse with the TB! ...symptom: very quiet rattle from the speaker at low volumes...doesn't really increase with volume though...sort of quiet flapping noise...? Took speaker out and connected a Mission HI-FI speaker, no rattle, put combo speaker back in and rattle back....it's the speaker, not the housing of that I'm sure. ...bugger, I love this combo any help welcome
11. +1 same here, luv a precision

Yamaha BBs

I've had both BB614 (Raspberry active 4 string) and BB414 (Orange passive 4 string)....both super sweet but the BB414 is a keeper, I can't praise this bass enough...simply a fantastic bass for the money, awesome build, super hot pups and very very comfy to play, old school looks are to my taste too. The actives EQ (6 series) are very black and white, wind the EQ up and bash my balls with a sledgehammer fat as can be sound, but on flat setting, strangely thin and quiet, but hey who buys an active and winds the EQ down! ...I've had rounds', tapes 'n flats across my BB414 and it seems to handle anything...great slap tone too on rounds if that's ya monkey. My mate who gigs Stax 'n Motown with an old 79 Fender P bass EMG and an early 80's Stingray is looking for a black BB415 (passive 5 sting) so that says more than a closet player like me ever could. ....but what's not to like about Orange metalflake
13. Just a bought lush Squier VMPTB...that's a Vintage Modified Precision Telebass in long hand! super quick delivery, easy coms, and the bass is like it's never been used great, easy, smoooooth sale thanks
14. I got myself a VMJF (Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Fretless, sorry!) it's lined and I play it a lot....just been playing Mr Jackson's Shake Ya Body Down to the Ground with tapes for strings... ...I had to learn that the cheater lines are where the fingers need to be, rather than just behind the frets/lines on the my other basses....great fun and the only way to play Japan's Visions Of China! go for it, but I wouldn't spend a fortune on one though, keeping with ears ears = fretted earlobes = fretless ....they are sort of like an earlobe, nice to have and you'd certainly notice if one went missing, but not as much as an ear....hope that makes sense!?!
15. thanks for the help
16. I always seem to like Yamaha kit, but have never come across any bass amp/speaker cab stuff, most likely as it's simply not that well marketed over here? I have found one these cab's, they come with 1x15" + 1x10" + HF horn.....I think they are an 80's item? What does the horn do....is this a High Frequency tweeter, slap bass? ...they could be PA speakers? Pics for illustration, it's not this pair? They seem to come with the usual B100-III bass heads from the 80's power them....and what is a parametric EQ? Can anyone comment on the heads and speakers, I only mess about at home so gigs not an issue!
17. sorry wrong forum
18. lush...very nice indeed
19.
At great expense, I think I have tried almost every flatwound out there, and I really liked Fenders. But a couple of months ago, I put some Ernie Ball flats on, and they are fantastic to play. Twiddling the knobs on my bass gives me all the sounds I need, from deep bass, right through to slapping, if that's what you want. They are a joy to play, very easy on your fingers, and sound better as they get older, IMO.
+1
20. Strange how Duran Duran are to some, an 'uncool' band ....bit too girly....bit too pretty? ugly = good musician pretty boys = must be fakers I think they did some great tunes, good fun to play with some quite technical basslines too. ....I don't think the late Mr Edwards would have bequithed his StingRay to a poor bassist? this seems live and some good playing too
21. I know just what you mean...you need a motown fat P bass with a Ping ray top end, mids mean nothing.... you can find all you want (and its a big ask) from one of these...
22. looks nice enough 'n cheap enough? http://brighton.gumtree.com/brighton/30/74312730.html
23. I looked at these for my 1st combo, and my friend has one....Rumble 150 I thought the sound was excellent but they seem to have a few common reliability issues...the 1st thing to go down is one of the inputs (active/passive I forget) seems to go down and main fuses always popping.
