HELP_____What is your first choice Jazz Bass color?
iconic replied to Funnybass's topic in General Discussion
orange, no contest! -
forget the buy "s/h quality purchase" I'm talking cheap 'n nasty!!! I can't believe these uber cheap basses actually can be played for how little they cost....but my thoughts go back to a £89.99 P bass I borrowed some time ago...the only thing I could comment on for the price was the high action at the nut...it played OK and slapped even better! ...my nomination for best looking cheepie goes to the Benson Hot Rod....with racing flames!

I keep getting told to tap my foot to the beat...something I have never done...until an hour ago... ...tried it today to my favorite Duran choons....Rio, Last Chance on the Stairway and Night Version of Girls on Film, then Just Jack Writers Block and even Le Freak and tappin my plates puts me off and makes my leg ache too! ...if this regarded an essential part of bass playing?
-
Not much of a list.... ...Guy Pratt's father Mike, played Randall in....Randall & Hopkirk... Bodie (Lewis Collins) ala The Professional's, played drums and bass and was going to audition for the Beatles drummer but decided to carry on with hairdressing instead...allegedly... .....Ironside was on TV next but all I know I that Raymond Burr didn't... Hulk Hogan... Richard Hammond Top Gear dwarf...well he did for charity... Cap'n Jack Sparrow... any others out there...?

another vote for Mr E Ball's Group III's, I have a set that are year old and been across and on and off 5 basses and still feel like new, and look good too....very well built and feel almost sensual

for what it's worth I have never sold a bass and not regretted it... ...if you really don't need the money maybe put it away for for a few months, out of sight somewhere, then dig it out and you never know, you may fall in love again? hope this helps?

don't laugh, I was searching for Charvel bass SB2's and came across that US 'bass'ball player (?) guy who plays a RHD Charvel bass LHD, he does real wide range stuff, metal to....how about.....I'm a Barbie Girl! then I find he has recorded a Spice Girls tune..the first one they did, at least went to number 1 then I find a tab for it...but the guy whom wrote the tab..well read on Song: Wannabe Artist (I use this term loosely): Spice Girls Tabbed By: You think I'd give you my real name? I'm tabbing this for three reasons: 1.) I'm bored as hell 2.) This could at least be a potentially funny rock cover (That's why I figured it out) 3.) The tab on mxtabs is really wrong Tuning is standard, and it's overall a trite bass line Intro: G|--------------------------- D|-------0--0-2--2----------- A|--2--2-----------0-0-1----- Repeat this 3 times for the intro E|--------------------------- After the "zig-a-zig-ahhh" crap, then you switch to this: G|--------------------------- D|--------------------------- A|---------------2--2-2-2---- Repeat 4 times for the vese E|--2--2-4--4-0-------------- Then you're gonna get to "Get your act together, we could be just fine." If you haven't removed your ears with a garden hoe by now, play this: G|--------------------------- D|-------0--0-2--2----------- A|--2--2-----------0-0-1----- Repeat this 2 times for the pre-chorus E|--------------------------- Still with me? I'm as suprised as you are. Let's get this over with. After another fiercely irritating "zig-a-zig-ahhh" you will either pass out or play this: G|--------------------------- D|--------------------------- A|---------------2--2-2-2---- Repeat this 4 times for the chorus E|--2--2-4--4-0-------------- We're almost halfway there, you can do it! After "But that's the way it is" then there will be a sad excuse for a bass fill. Here it is: G|--------------------------- If you don't understand this, first of all I don't blame D|--------------------------- you, I'm horrible at tabbing. Second of all, it's a 3-beat A|----------------2--2-2-2--- slide. Then on the first beat of the next measure, you pick E|--12~~~~~~--0------------- up the regular verse line again. I promise, it will all be over really soon. After the fill and such, you will resume the verse line. The first beat of the riff will fall right after "Now you know how I feel." In case you forgot, it goes like this: G|--------------------------- D|--------------------------- A|---------------2--2-2-2---- Repeat this one 3 times E|--2--2-4--4-0-------------- Time for another pre-chorus. Don't worry, it's normal to want to kill everything English at this point. I assure you, though, that these girls hardly represent the UK. Anyway, one of them will say "If you really bug me, then I'll say goodbye." and you will follow that up with this: G|--------------------------- D|-------0--0-2--2----------- A|--2--2-----------0-0-1----- Repeat it twice E|--------------------------- They're getting creative, now (Don't worry, I'm being sarcastic). The first measure of the chorus is a cappella because their original bassist temporarily blacked out in the studio. So you'll resume having not played the first measure, like this: G|--------------------------- D|--------------------------- A|--------------2--2-2-2----- E|-----------0--------------- Then you continue with the chorus riff like this: G|--------------------------- D|-------0--0-2--2----------- A|--2--2-----------0-0-1----- Repeat it 6 times E|--------------------------- After this dumb rap section (it's not rap actually...it's crap) they say "Slam your body down and wine is out of town" or something stupid like that. The bassist blacks out again So you're just going to play this for the 7th repitition of the chorus riff: G|--------------------------- D|-------0--0-2-------------- A|--2--2--------------------- E|--------------------------- So we're back to the chorus riff, you know the drill, just play this: G|--------------------------- D|--------------------------- A|---------------2--2-2-2---- Repeat this 8 times (they do a double) E|--2--2-4--4-0-------------- At last, we're to the final "zig-a-zig ahhh" thingy. When she says this, we switch back to the outro riff: G|--------------------------- D|-------0--0-2--2----------- A|--2--2-----------0--0-1---- Play it twice and you're done! E|--------------------------- That's it! You've done it! Congratulations. This should be easy, considering I got my first bass last Wednesday (it's now Monday). I was also out of town for one of those days. The point is, I can play this with hardly any trouble, and I'm no musical genius. For Christ's sake, I'm a drummer with a bass guitar. Please e-mail any questions, compliments, or constructive criticism to . Please mail any death threats, insults, and questions about my sexuality to . Keep in mind this is my first tab, and it was done as a joke. I do not, repeat DO NOT enjoy this song. I'm just bored. Auf wiedersehen.

Hi Tom, why Wizards?
These pickups are like chalk and cheese compared to the sound of the pickups in your bass. If you like the way you’re bass sounds and just want silver pickup covers you can buy some and paint them.
chalk and cheese as in how would they sound?

A funny thing has happended, all of a sudden I realise I'm playing my MIM all the time and it's no longer a 'pain' (as in it was hurting my wrist)....it's a lovely thing to play now I'm used to it and as I'm very shallow, it's so nice to look at too and the wife doesn't want to see it sold. I have to thank Tom, whom I bought it off a few weeks back, having seen a few new ones on Monday (US & MIM) I really do have a peach with nice tight pocket and flawless finish so..... .....and I said I would never pump money into a bass as I'm not a good enough player..... .....but by mistake I saw a set of Di Marzio DP 127 pups in silver, they sure would look pretty against the Lake Placid and Maple neck. I'm not up to speed on aftermarket pups and these have blade pole pieces and are described as being dual humbuckers...'sounds interesting'....anyone know anything about them? Widen the sound of your gear with a Split P™ pickup. Each half of this unique double-blade P-style pickup is a complete humbucker. Split P™ pickups are EQ'd to expand the range of your bass by extending both low- and high-end response: a great way to get a broader contemporary sound from mid-rangy one-pickup-in-the-middle basses. The double-blade design adds snap for crisp attack and emphasizes cool overtones for big, smooth tone. Blade pole pieces also make the Split P™ very sensitive to finger- and pick-attack. Notes seem to ring longer, especially in the upper registers, as the pickup hears the decaying note practically down to a whisper. Recommended For: Middle position (standard Fender Precision mounting). Tech Talk: The Split P's ability to reproduce both subtle dynamics and the full range of electric bass frequencies is particularly useful with fretless basses and modern bass amps. Biamping will demonstrate this pickup's ability to reproduce top end, but the broad magnetic window of the dual-blade design enables the highs to stay fat and full. Specifications: Wiring Standard Four conductor Magnet Ceramic Output 250mV DC Resistance 19.16K Year of introduction 1979 Patent # 4501185

"Never a fan of prog either, though Mr Wakeman is a witty bloke and seems a decent type of fellow. I may take a stroll to the bottom of my own road tonite and see if I can spot anyone worth watching." .....I think Mr Wakeman is a Diss resident...or so the guy tells me in my chippy...he likes Rock Salmon!
-
This seems to be straightforward enough, even to a newb like me, so why can't I get the chorus right.... Chorus (EIGHTH NOTES) g|-------------------------------------------------------------------2-4-----------------------| d|-----------------0-2-4-------------------------------------2-4--------------------2---2-4-| a|--0-0-0-2-4------------------------0-2-4-----2-2-2-4---------------4-4-4-4---4-----| e|-------------------------0-0-0-2-4-----------------------------------------------------| This must be one of those occasions when proper sheet music would help! ....found a tab, but, as there is no timing to this I'm struggling and my ear doesn't seem to be able to pick it up, unless this tab is very wrong....funny how how some songs get me puzzled? timing to me is more a da-da-dum.. Mr Bean sings Geno any help welcome gentlemen

Bit obscure....unless you lived in Espana in the 80's ...but I was taken to a concert by this group, by my then spanish girlfriend, they looked like the biggest bunch of miserable, scruffy, surly spanish waiters straight out of Llorett and turned up looking like they had just been doing a 12 hour shift and doing the dishes afterwards......but my god could they play, one of those jaw dropping experiences.....don't know what happended to them, but by Spainish std's they were a supergroup back then.

and this group were almost never seen so no ones too sure if they looked bad, but the lead singer always looked to me like he needed a good dinner from the record's jacket ...strange thing about this song, my late friend was working on the London Underground fire alarm system, came across a busker singing this to a backing tape of this song and had one of the "who's on bass" conversations, asked him who is was by originally "two People" "yeah but what's the name of the group" "two people" "yeah, you just said that, but who by" "two people" "yeah but..."
