  1. I set mine the depth (string to pole piece gap) of 2x2p coins with string depressed on highest fret for E string, 1 coin depth for the G string....I'm a very gentle player though. I've recently had a MIMP pass thru my hands and no matter what I did the string to volume balance was ridiculous. Tried everything, ended up installing a new pup on that one which cured the issue. That said do the easy things first.
  2. Playing at home no one wears a hat. 😉
  3. Wasn't there a Mark King Fender Jazz🤔
  4. I thought this would be about the external search for that one bass that satisfies the GAS😉
  5. Yup, agree there but don't forget the 70s, also an iconic age for decent up in the mix bass succulence. Oddly listerning to some of these DAB 80s n 70s radio stations I'm amazed how much of what I thought was 80s music is in fact mid to late 70s....age is catching up with me....Buggles for instance.
  6. I personally don't believe you need to spend a small fortune. I use the simple but, effective Mack's musician/audio foam plugs, they are 22SNR, way down the usual 36 I wear on my motorbike...they work for me.....the Mack's are Caucasian skin colour. 3M do ear caps, plugs on a head band, again way down on the SNR scale, the blue band and yellow ear cap is a little sudden though. I'm wearing the Mack's for watching open mic nights now.
  7. Pup should take a slant, top of the hill on the G string😎
  8. Same with my 2000 4H, most unstable neck I'd ever had on a bass.
  9. I've a Q4 Pro (brilliant things) and I really like having a vol/vol rather than a blend...maybe me but I've never got on with blends and, being a Jazz bass fan has probably reinforced my bias. It's looking good, loving the gold😎
  10. Maybe me but the Mark King Fender jazz was always a tad odd🤔
  11. A guy brought me a Yamaha BB414 that he had restrung in a similar way....he split the nut off at the E string.
  12. Vinny Shilleto (Ozric Tentacles etc) bought a silver Volvo 850 off me years ago... Really nice guy to chat to and of course I asked him what bass he played? .... he told he had owned them all but, had settled on a Spector and really raved about them. He had a noodle on my Squier 1st gen VMJ and liked it, or he may been very polite😊 I finally bought a Spector, he was quite correct😎

  14. I always think of Bernard Edwards for the Dorian mode, fantastic lesson and thanks for the upload. 😎
  15. Lovely looking thing that. Had a few Vintage Brand bits over the years and all been very good.
  16. I'm guessing it's a 20 minute video with about 3 mins of anything worth listerning too with the rest full of drivel....I've got a wife for that! 🤌
  17. Jesus H Christ that's stunning😍😍😍

  20. Same here, had one a couple of years back, felt cheap as fish heads....chips in my chippy start at £2.30
  21. Tony Butler Vintage P bass, I've never seen him with one in his hands bar the adverts.....nice looking bass though....and I think his usual gigging and recording P has the tone control disabled, the Vintage hasn't?
  22. Lovely that. As a Spector owner myself, Spector ownership reminds me of that car analogy of anyone whom enjoys cars, should own an Alfa at least once in their lives. Likewise goes for Spectors, they are so very right....the feel- as soon as I picked mine up it felt special, how they play with easy fast necks and a sound I wish all my basses had....they are a proper GAS killer though. When I bought mine I felt I had 'arrived'. GLWTS😎
  23. Crikey, I forgot I owned the blue version of this. My only sour deal I did on Bass Chat, buyer never posted my case back😊
  24. Saw a band last week and my bass nerd spider senses immediately spied....an old 80s Aria pointy bass standing proud on its stand... A few things struck me as, ooh. First was that this was a smooth 'n slow 1-4-5 roots' n 5ths country band, consisting of 3 pensioners looking like a Victor Meldrew tribute act....and there's me thinking the band player would have more slap (pun intended) and PVC than a Kiss member. Second, that I haven't seen a pointy bass played in anger since the last time...well never come to think of it? Thirdly, that my 11 year daughter thought it was the coolest bass in captivity and, far more attention getting than her her pink 'n maple P. The band were a great bunch of guys, not brilliant players but, importantly, funny as f*ck, non stop ripping the fosters out of each other and the audience so, fantastic fun....and unusual for a country band, not one dead dog was mentioned. 'Victor Pointy Bass' used the headstock on a few occasions, to dig the singer in the ribs when the singer played a bum note on his harmonica, which seemed a plus, erm point, over my ohh so soft J and P. Just as observation and, I cant see them ever being desirable, collectable or making money, but then I thought that about the Ford Crappi, Vauxhall Cavpig and Austin Ambassador, Sony Walkman, old Synths, Hygena furniture, mullets (well maybe not) so what do I know? (Similar to this puppy.)
