i had a similar thing happen, i bought a gibson les paul off ebay years back and when it turned up, i was like a kid at christmas, firstly it was in a gigbag which i thought odd pulled it out, two broken tuning pegs, couple strings missing and it looked like a fake, had a closer look at the headstock and discovered it was painted over with a "gibson" decal on it scraped back, the paint, turned out to be a hondo II whatever that is. if you can get your money back, take it and buy another thumb that is in better nick, if you don't want to spend money fixing it up then thats the answer, if you keep it you will just keep finding faults and things that will annoy you. at least your not having to deal with something that was as badly described as my lp

Yamaha RBXJM2 6 string lost in the royal mail post
hagguy replied to fluffo's topic in General Discussion
i send through the post office all the time the service i get is a1 i send 24 hour delivery insured upto £500, if they have lost it they have to pay the value of what has been lost, unless you have sent uninsured then i'm not sure what you can do, i'm sure if the item was lost in the post the royal mail will be libal for the cost, would be suprised if you can't get your money out of them, will depend on what service you have used though, i'll keep an eye out incase someone local is selling similar, but more likely it's sitting in the depot with a ripped address label -
Unfortunately there are few places to even play, let alone meet other musicians in Falkirk. I would say to put a flyer into The Bunker practice studio in Bonnybridge. There are loads of bands playing there. Speak to Panda who usually runs it to see if there are any bands he know of looking for bass players. We used to have the Cottages jam session every sunday but that's closed down. They did try to revive it at a pub round from Polmont YOI but don't know if that ever took off or not. As far as playing goes in Falkirk you have Behind the Wall, Full Stop have started putting bands on and The Brightons Inn. My rock band plays maybe once or twice a month as we all have other stuff on but if we played any more then we'd have to start looking at gigs in Galashiels, Peebles and Inverness etc like we used to do when we played more. Try getting an ad sorted out and get it round the practice places and into the 2 music shops in Falkirk. I've tried the online ads and got nowhere when I was looking at alternatives to current bands a few years ago.
totally agree bud, btw and rialtos are the only places for a gig, but rialtos only has estabished bands. as far as a jam goes, its murder there is nowhere to go. i think i might have to go back to guitar to get involved with a band. tbh i am a guitarist only took up bass to help my mates band out, not that i'm complaining, never thought much of bass till i had to do it, must admit bass filled a hole in music for me and has gave me a better apprieciation of music, the bunker in bonnybridge, is a possible option, went there for a jam when i was younger and it was music warehouse. whats your band? might come and see you check your riffage live lol!

i'm a plasterer to trade, and RSI kind of comes with the territory, my right shoulder is knackered, my right elbow is agony all the time, and if i rotate my wrists it sounds like a cement mixer full of bricks, to think all that can be solved by a book, sounds a bit odd. i've had injections physio and all sorts of treatments including accupucture (which helps). i'm really glad the book worked for some, but deep rooted injuries take more than a mental tidy up in my expierience. i'm not gonna have a go at the guy for posting the thread cos' his intentions are more than good imo and if i stumble accross any miracle cures, i would do exactly the same, he was only trying to be helpful.

theres some really good looking stuff on that site, anyone actually tried any of the guitars or basses. the gear all looks the part but might be crap for all i know, going by the prices think the quality might be on the low side

not a fender man, with basses anyway, those plates really do make them look good though. didn't know they where useful though learn something every day

i have both schallers and dunlop straploks, imo the schallers are very poor in comparison to the dunlops, plus the dunlop can be used as a normal strap button, i would have dunlops on all but a couple of my basses came with schaller buttons on them standard schaller are simply un secure and don't alow 360 degree rotation which is useless tbh, the marvel ones mentioned look ok but i'll stick with th dunlops plus they arent noisey, the schallers rattle something awful. if the marvel ones are as good s dunlops, might try them in the future

i'm currently in the horrible place of not having a band, or anyone to jam with, used to jam alot with my mate but he is really trying to get his band going and has alot of comitments to gigs and practice, which i couldn't pull him away from, just for a jam. Ive been in a couple bands, first one i was filling in (which i didn't know) and the original bassisit came back. second band folded after the guitarist went missing for a fortnight , and our singer got poached by a cover band. i've never really tried to get into a band or anything, so looking for some advice on how to get things going, for myself and how to go about it? any imput appreiciated (excuse the spelling and grammer btw) hagguy aka ian

Do professional bassists still play at home for fun
hagguy replied to iconic's topic in General Discussion
im a plasterer, just finished skimming my kitchen after putting it off for about a year, if i had to play bass everyday, in a work like way it would probably take the shine off it, so glad i'm mediocre at best. got big respect for full time musicians, that's a level of dedication and ability to aspire to, i used to play small gigs with my uncle and he always complained that playing the same covers took the fun out of singing them, but he always had a smile on his face when he got the money at the end of the night -
got to say, i've not had many problems trying gear in shops. most guys in the shops play themselves, if not all. they know the script, most people in line for a top end bit of gear will talk in the right way about what they are after before asking to try it. i have been refused a go at a PRS myself but they couldn't have been nicer about it, and it was in a display case, what was said above is totally right, if you act like a dick, you will be treated like one. all the gear in the shops are for sale, people seem to forget that, if you damage it they still have to try and sell it. might try sticking my suit on when i go shopping next see for myself see if it makes a difference i do look good in a suit

i'm on here a stupid amount of time a day, honestley need to give it a break, addictions the wrong word imo. more of a compulsive thing not that there's much difference

totally agree, that warwick in the link is completely ruined with that elephant man forehead look. how anyone can spend they're hard earned on that is beyond me, whatever the advantages are, they are cancelled out when it looks that bad. as my mum used to say, beauty may be skin deep, but ugly goes right to the bone.
I used to play 4's exclusively before seeing the light and shifting to a 5 string (high c of course) Now everytime I play a 4 string I find it too small and my hand cramps up really easy. Different strokes.... and all that, yet to play anything more than a 6'er though I would love to.
i had the hand cramp thing happen when i got a fender jazz, after thinking a thin neck would be great, it just didn't work for me, sold it a week after i got it. to used to the atk & sandberg i think. i have a 5 with a high c and it's really growing on me it is that touch wider, but not that wide it's uncomfortable. it's really changed my outlook on 5 strings, although i must say the only time i've seen 5ers + 6ers live is on t.v in the hands of pro's.
Unless you solo a lot, I can't see how you're going to get much use from the high C. Certainly you'll find a 5-string is more ... erm ... well, bassy if you string it BEADG. How to play it? If you've strung it with a low B, treat it like a 4-string except now you have a handy thumb-rest that runs ALL the way along. Neat, huh? Once you've got used to that, try playing a few songs in D. You'll very quickly find out how useful it is to be able to play a low D, especially as part of alternating octaves, or arpeggios.
i did have it strung with a b string but really couldn't use it, the thumbrest thing is right on the money, but i like having it like a 4 with an extra string, maybe try a b string in the future but for now i'm sticking with the c,
