i had an MIM classic 60' jazz bass which was ordered in especially for me. on initial inspection it looked good, however once i got it home & tried to set it up i found the neck was a real mess.the frets below the 15th fret were not anywhere near level, the nut was fitted too far down the neck & cut too deep so the stings were resting on the edge of the fretboard (& digging into the wood). also the neck had a very bad foreward bow that no amount of truss rod twirling would sort out. Fender did eventually replace the whole bass & the new bass was a belter,so i'll not be buying any more basses i've not actually played again,be it MIM or anywhere else. ok i'll shut up now

in butterscotch blonde just like this one- i've only had this bass for 2 months & it is in absolute mint condition. it's a real beauty & plays a dream, sounds awesome too with its nice solid ash body. i seem to have too many basses & not enough cash hence my reason for selling it price is £400ish but i'm open to offers.

Help!!!! Any Fender Jazz specialists know what this is?
artisan replied to Clarky's topic in Bass Guitars
glad you got sorted Clarky. i'm shure that a geniune '62 or indeed a reissue wouldn't have a skunk stripe on its neck either. -
"chill out, feel the song & keep it flowing along, but above all DON'T BLOODY SLAP IT." this was the advice i got given by my brother when we formed our blues band 15 years ago as he was big into blues but i'd not really listened to it before. i listerned to a lot of Tommy Shannon's SRV stuff,Jimi Hendrix (especially when Billy Cox was playing bass) & of course Jack Bruce's Cream stuff. also listen to anything by a band called "THE HOAX" their bass player,Simon Davey, playes some really nice lines.

if you open your shop i wish you the best of luck mate personally i prefer to buy my basses form a shop as i like to make shure the one i'm buying is a cracker (i'm a pretty good judge btw ) where as buying from the net is a lottery as you may get a cracker or a crapper. in the last 3 years i've spent a fortune in local music shops, let me think--EBMM 'RAY / MIA JAZZ / VM JAZZ / MIM P / CORVETTE D'BUCK / CORVETTE FRETLESS / MIM 60s JAZZ / CIJ '51 P / MIA DELUXE P / CUBE 30 / SVT3PRO/ B410HLF + various straps & leads. i think i believe in supporting my local shops - - - good on me

How important is theory and reading to you??
artisan replied to JakeBrownBass's topic in General Discussion
i'm with tBBC,it's all about fun for me & to be honest i can't be arsed to learn how to read music & in my 30 years of playing i've probably learnt all the theory i'm ever going to need,& i didn't have to read music for that. i'm mainly a blues/rock player & have written a fair few songs over the years, although i will admit it would sometimes have been handy to actually "write" the song down on papper correctly but hey who cares ? i'll just stick to playing for fun thanks. -
i put my SVT in a 3U shallow gator as i like plenty of air flow round my amp

what a load of sh*te,imho of course

What do you play if you're trying a bass in a music shop?
artisan replied to molan's topic in General Discussion
i can't slap to save my life but i can't stand that style anyway (no offence to anybody intended) so thats a no no,but i've noticed all the shop assistants in the world think they're slap masters.so i'll play pretty much whatever comes to mind, altough i nearly always play "Phantom of the Opera" at some point. when i tried my deluxe p bass i lost a whole hour,i've no idea what i was playing but i walked out of the shop a grand lighter but with the best bass i ever played. -
Thanks for your views, Soulfinger - even if they do add to my confusion. What style(s) do you play?
not exactly the same i know but i have a cube30 that i use for home practice & quiet band rehersal,i think is a fantastic bit of kit, sounds good too. i play blues/rock & use P & J basses & it sounds great,in fact if it was a bit louder i'd happily use it for smaller gigs.

there's no better feeling than getting a new bass home for the first time, for me anyhow, coupled to the fact i just love looking at basses. also i'm very impulsive,i can be reading a book which has a photo of say a really nice Jazz/Precision & i just have to have one like it,can't help myself. i know it won't make me a better player but what the hell I NEED IT.

i bought one just before christmas,amber/maple & it's the best bass i've played in the last 30 years period. it's absolutley awesome in all respects, infact it feels like it was custom built just for me-if you know what i mean. build quality is second to none & an awesome variety of very usable tones, i love it. get it bought
