i found one on ebay in the US a new fender 62 reissue one! it works out at 40 quid including shipping
nice one get it bought mate
yeah the 84's and the stack knob plate are what ive got on my frankenstein jazz and it works really well! it seems really hard to find a control plate anywhere
i asked on here about that & some kind soul gave me a link to a U.S. seller who does 'em-buggered it i can find it though. i also checked at my local fender dealer & he said he could order all the parts seperate from fender then assemble them for me,would cost £60-£70.i rekon that's the best idea that way its all genuine fender parts,i might even do this to my MIM 60's jazz.
too right i am!! its awesome! thinking of changing it back to passive now, the passive sound seems to work better with my amp for some reason? your basses look lovely by the way!
cheers Chris i must admit before i put that j-retro into your jazz i was going to fit a pair of wizard 84's & a stacked knob control plate.
Cool! Looking at your pics...there isn't much difference, your MIM looks like a MIA and your MIA looks like a MIM
your right i think lol
Just trying to get some sort of idea, quite fancy the MIM 60's....does it have the plain finish on the back of the neck or do they have the stripe? Are they the same sort of weight as a US? Cheers!
no stripe on the back of the neck just a lovely gloss finish & about the same weight as my recently departed MIA jazz
Lovely basses artisan, when you say "slightly deeper than a modern jazz" are you talking profile, would you say as chunky as a Jap 60's?
cheers Jase. i've not owned a Jap jazz for a few years so i can't really say but the profile is deeper than a modern US standard & seems a bit deeper than my old MIA 62 reissue jazz that i wish i hadn't sold 4 or 5 years ago. i have to say though i really like this bass.
Oooh, sunburst & tort guard on both! I'm going to have to put that order in soon - Stop it! Excellent pair of basses - What's the difference on the jazz to the normal MIM models?
the build quality is much better than a standard MIM in all respects, infact its better than any Jap fenders i've owned before. decent hardware, nice slim vintage style frets (i don't like the modern medium jombo jobbies)the pickups sound really good-no need to replace them at all. nice tight neck joint, beautiful neck (slightly deeper than a modern jazz) with very good fretwork,no sharp edges anywere. it plays really well,as well as a good MIA fender IMHO,in fact if you played it without knowing its an MIM i'd wager that you'd think it was a US reissue. and as for the paint/laquer finish-absolutley flawless, they most definately put a good deal of work into these basses, they do a 50's Precision too----on no i'm gasing again all in all i'm really pleased with this bass its a keeper & a bargain at £549.00 to boot.

first up my MIA 62 reissue P bass the best bass i've ever played & my latest purchase a MIM classic 60's Jazz bass this really is a nice bass, much better built than the standard MIM fayre--no routing under the scratch plate--reverse tuners--decent pick ups & a flawless finish---lurvley. group shot
-
what a top bloke. congrats Andy.
-
we've played a few gigs at our local masonic lodge & every one was total crap, never again.
-

[quote name='Josh' date='May 15 2008, 06:37 PM' post='199811' Unfortunatley for me my experience with the bass wasn't the best, after the initial reaction of it being my first Warwick I soon found that it didn't have that trademark Warwick Growl which was what I was hoping for, I also couldn't get on with the pick up placement, I play prodominantly on the bridge pick up and on the $$ the bridge P'up is actually a considerable distance away from the bridge as opposed to my Thumb, which is also essential to the tone. I changed the action many times but couldn't get it anywhere near comfortable. And in the end I just found the all the tones available were pretty bland and really didn't stand out well in a mix and I was left puzzled to why they are seen as such an amazing bass.
+1 i didn't like mine at all,in fact i would have been better buying a corvette std.
-
i know what you mean Andy,my visa card wants me to buy a US '57 P bass but the wife will kill me if i do. but the MIM sounds like a good buy so i think i'll order one tomorrow. thanks for all your help.
-
thats what i was hoping to hear thanks guys, looks like the credit card will be getting a moderate hammering then.
The woodwork will be pretty much the same as a US.... The hardware maybe not be as good but its upgradeable..... If you like it go for it....
cheers bud. no shops near me stock these so i'll have to order it from the good old 'net & hope for the best.
Might be wrong here but arn't they made from Basswood ?
according to Fender's website they both have alder bodies. just looked on harmony central & both get very good reviews.

thinking of buying one of the above & just wondered if anyone has one & if so what do you reckon ? cheers.
