+1 If you can hump the DB750 about, carrying a DB112 is about the same. hence elected to buy a Berg AE212 which isn't much heavier than a single DB112 but narrower with a pair of handles... result.
I've heard a lot of good things about the Berg AE212 - I'm not sure whether I could handle the weight though - perhaps that's another avenue for research? Cheers, Pete
If you have back problems then in my opinion you are looking at the wrong gear; very good and great sounding gear, but wrong because it is very heavy gear. But I guess if you think that the weight of that amp is doable then the cabs will be OK. Get a good trolley.
I understand where you're coming from but the sound of them is really well matched to the amp and blew me away tbh. My back is a tad buggered but, touch wood, I haven't really had any problem with it for around 18 months - I'm just really careful how I lift now, and my bandmates are really helpful if they can see I'm struggling/a bit stiff after a marathon gig. I can handle the amp in it's Gator Case no worries so reckon I should be okay with the cabs - I guess the proof would be to pay a visit to Bass Gear or Bass Direct and see how they feel? I checked out the weight quoted on Aguilar's website and at 45 lbs for the DB112 it's pretty much the same as the head (allegedly!! I reckon the head is way more than 46 Lbs!). I had thought about a trolley/sack truck for those lengthy load ins. Cheers for the reply - very helpful

Thanks for the feedback, don't really fancy taking the drill to the cab, although I had considered it - I'm most likely going to buy the Aggie covers as well so that would scupper the idea of an additional handle. I'm sure I could manage them two handed if I tried. Our gigs often last well in excess of 3 1/2 hours (our longest being just under 4 1/4 hours!!) so at the end of the night you could say I often feel a tad jaded Regarding the tweeter, I reckon the DB750's EQ suits having the tweeter engaged (to my ears anyhow) - I also tend to use the bright switch engaged all the time.So I would think the DB112 would be the sensible option - or perhaps even a pair of them?

Hi All, After the recent purchase of a DB750 (which I love to bits and don't mind hauling around to gigs), I'm now thinking of purchasing a DB112 & DB112NT to compliment the amp. I tried a 4x10 when buying and loved the sound of it, BUT, I have a dodgy back (prolapsed discs) and while I'd love a big cab, there's no way I can go back to anything too heavy. So I'm doing my research and have a couple of things to ask: Regarding the carrying handles on the cabs - where are they located? How substantial are they? I can only think they must be on the right hand side of the cab (when stood looking at the front grille), hope that makes sense? Tired! I'm mildly concerned if that's the case as I find carrying cabs easier with two handles and the load in front of me, rather than carrying using one hand. IYKWIM. Also, if I buy new I may need to buy one cab one month and the other the following month (cashflow ), so which cab should I buy first? The 112 or 112NT? I do like the tweeter on my BF Super 12T - which is odd as I have Mark Bass 151P & 102P cabs and I really don't like the tweeter on those cabs? Prior to those I had 2 Trace Elliot 4x10's (the reason for the now knackered back!) with tweeters that I always turned off too? I'm thinking if I buy the DB112 and don't like the tweeter I can always turn it off? Thoughts? As always, your feedback is appreciated! Cheers, Pete

Cheers Andy, had a play round with it this afternoon before gig, tried 'em in the effects loop but preferred it straight in the front of the amp. I'm really pleased with the amp and the cab - first outing and all the guys in the band were well impressed and complimented the sound - I had the EQ flat and had the bright switch always engaged and engaged the deep switch on and off throughout the night according to what we were playing - WOW! I'm blown away by just how much depth there is to the tone and yet also how clear the mids & highs are - very happy chappy!
-
Probably another stupid question from me! Should I use the effects loop or is it okay to stick the effects straight into the input jack (as I normally would)? I shall be using Octaver, Chorus, Fuzz & Overdrive - not all at the same time though!

Bought a PitchBlack Tuner from Nick, all good here!
Lets face it. You're the one up on stage playing and he's the guy without a gig on a Saturday night. I wonder why?
That's always my philosophy now - slightly off topic but when I first started gigging there was, what I considered to be, an awesome bass player doing the rounds on our local circuit - whenever he came into the pub I'd often go to pieces for about 3 or 4 songs and then I'd settle down and avoid eye contact with said player at all costs. It always amazed me just how often he'd turn up to our gigs and after speaking to him he said he used to watch what/how I was playing and use the lines/fills in his band.
-
Hmm, I plan to keep my Mark Bass F1 as a back up and for smaller gigs, and I also use a PJB Briefcase for when we do 'acoustic' gigs. As much as I loved the Aggie Cabs yesterday I'll have to see how the back copes with hauling the 750 around first, on paper it doesn't sound too bad but in reality (flightcased) it's a heavy beast! I'm sure at this point the sound will more than make up for the effort of lifting it from the van to the venue, I was really impressed by the 4x10 though and clearly there's a lot of love for the other cabs too. I reckon I'll see how the BF fares and then maybe, once funds allow, I'll potentially be back to try some of the DB cabs with my ears (and my back). There's nowt like getting old!
-
Meant to add I was suitably impressed with the BF super 12T, liked it particularly with a bit of tweeter added to (although that could change at gig volume).
-
Hi Barrie, I tried an Aggie 4x10 yesterday and even in the demo room it sounded just immense, very tight with plenty of low end too, I hadn't played through a 4x10 for around 5 years since my back gave a load of trouble, would love to pair it with a couple of DB112's in the future when funds allow. I think that's the only way my back could cope with the weight of the Ag cabs. What are the SL cabs like performance wise?

Update - I tried the two amp heads through my Barefaced Cab today.....I'm now the owner of a DB750. Have to say there were pros and cons to both heads, the 750 seemed a bit cleaner to me tonally, a bit less coloured than the 751, although interestingly I had to have the gain/master volume increased by a fair amount on the 750 when AB/ing the amps? Once I'd got the gain & volume controls sorted/level, I thought the 751 definitely seemed to have a little bit of mid boost in the flat EQ (if that makes sense?). I definitely prefer the aesthetics/feel of the 750's controls compared with the 751, although I do really like the thought of all controls being on the front panel, particularly the main power on/off and I certainly wouldn't rule out having a 751 in the future. On the whole I'm really pleased with the amp, first proper outing will be Jan 4th - can't wait to see how it sits in the band mix. Thanks for the all the feedback! Pete

Bought a Barefaced Cab from Rob - an absolute gentleman to deal with and a credit to Basschat. Spot on. Cheers Rob.

That's interesting feedback - thank you guys. I have to agree about the 750 looking more aesthetically pleasing, I prefer the uncluttered look of the 750 front panel, although I certainly wouldn't rule out a 751 on looks alone, horses for courses and all that. I'm planning a visit to a shop to try a couple out and let my ears decide. Forgive my ignorance but what do you mean when you say the 750 is wired point to point? Edited for typo

That what I was thinking tbh, but I had also thought that as the load was slightly greater than 2 Ohms the amp may run a bit hotter (and get the cooling fan working a bit harder)? I guess my thought process was that it may have caused/lead to some resulting damage?
-
Hi All, I'm in the market for a new amp and have been seriously tempted by an Aguilar head, simply because I've heard they're ultra reliable and are unfussy, in terms of setting up. I really fancy a DB750 or, if my budget allows, a DB751, but thought I'd ask for opinions/feedback from those that have experience using them? I've done a bit of research and the only negative I've read is that the DB750 has a noisier cooling fan than the 751, I can't imagine this causing me too much concern (although I've not heard one yet), as i'd only use the head for gigging (and possibly some recording). I've just purchased a Barefaced Super 12T rated at 4 Ohms (no Hi-Jacks please ) and was thinking about buying a Midget (8 Ohms) to stack on top for larger/outdoor gigs, I guess this was where the pondering about an amp suitable to power both cabs came in, as with the cabs running in parallel the total impedance would be 2.7 Ohms. I've read that the DB750/1 is happy at 2,4 & 8 Ohm loads, so guess the first thing I should clarify is whether the amp would run without risk of damage at 2.7 Ohms? My thinking is that it wouldn't quite run at it's full potential? But I would appreciate feedback from those in the know to help clear this up for me? Any comments, good or bad regarding the amps (not the cabs please! ) would be greatly welcomed and appreciated! Cheers Guys! Pete

Fender Ashtray and Neck pickup covers on a jazz bass
Thor replied to dakanoosh's topic in General Discussion
Back to the OP, as others have said I think they look super cool and had persevered with the bridge cover for a while now, although I've been depping lately with a band that plays lots of punk/indie stuff so have since removed the bridge cover as I like the tonal change when playing nearer the bridge. Point worth mentioning also, if you've got a Jazz with a Badass bridge fitted, the F stamped bridge cover wont fit. -
Strap length: been able to play vs looking cool
I've actually lengthened my strap over the last few years
Me too! Although that could be due to my waistline increasing a wee bit over the years!!
