Just finished building my Vong, simply great instructions, makes for an easy assembly of what is quite a fully featured little pedal. only tried through headphones, so far, but certainly silent in use.

Trace Elliot SMX amp head - Shredded Allen bolt heads!
Chimike replied to Davy's topic in Repairs and Technical
Which model trace Elliot is this. On most trace amps, these would not be the chassis retaining screws . However, if they are , preferred method is to drill the heads off with a very sharp, good quality, stubby drill bit, using a slow speed, bit of oil might help. Drill size bit larger than bolt shank , but fair bit smaller than head diameter. Head will come off when you reach the shank. After disassembly, usually possible to remove remaining bolt stub with mole grips. take care when starting, as drill will tend to snatch when you first start ! Don't use a long, cheap, drill, as will snap, for this reason. Good Luck mike. -

Trying to talk Bumnote into coming to this with me. Interested in the 12 cab shootout. As long as he doesn't want to come in his go kart, will try and bring something old ! mike. -
Yep, bad back , so, been doing this for awhile. Started with a B&O module, then experimented with ( the fabulous ) Hypex parts, and now I've bought a 1000w Sumo power amp. preamps I've used range from the front end of SVT's, for which I've had to build power supplies, and pre's from Trace Elliot, Ashdown, Alembic, Ashly, SWR, etc. be aware, it's not just plug and play ! The different combinations don't all match. Some pre's don't drive the modules to full output, and in some cases I've had to use a Sansamp , or micro amp, to get enough signal. However, it's great fun, and as I can't lift my SVT's anymore, love walking in with ( what looks like ) my SVT in one hand ! be warned, you won't save money doing it the way I have ! mike.

You seem to have the hard work behind you, everything you do now will make it better, and better ! I have several, one with a Guass speaker like yours in it, great sound.

No Slacking now, we need to see this finished. Great cabs, BTW,

Important to realise that the talk bass link was referring to a solid state amp, not valve , so does not apply in this case . Could try Yampeg service dept, they've been very helpful in the past.

Only thing better than a trace V4, THREE trace V4's Magic.

Anyone on here from Plockton, in Scotland. Just bought a PF50t that seems to have travelled there at some time. Wondered what the history was ! -
Bumnote has one, worth asking him .

Just bought a set of strings from Paul. Pleasant, easy, quick transaction Thanks Paul.

Just received Justin's Phil Jones Buddy. It arrived very well packed, and in better condition than described. Justin was a real gent to deal with, great communications, and patient ! thanks Justin. mike.

Get's even more interesting ! doubt the PF50t is like the 70's V4b, that's more SVT -like. But maybe similar to the re-issue. I also have a B15r, which is similar to the re-issue V4b, so can compare at some stage. these are all heads, let's not forget that a good part of the B15 Magic is in the cab.

I can feel a blind test trial coming on at the south east bass bash ! I have a '64 B15 , a modern B15 clone, ( used with a 70's SB12 neo'd cab ) and have just bought the PF50t. should I take them along ?

Wot's a cm in inches, for us ( old ) youngsters 😳 ( no need to answer, I am an engineer ! ) BTW , my PF50t turned up and it's great . gonna decide which cab suits it best, then see what size of gig it's happy with and report back. Nice and light for a valve 50 watter, but will benefit from a case to protect it. Sadly, not suitable for this weekends gig, outdoor marque thingy. fender Studio bass plus 4 x 12 ampeg cab will hopefully crack it ! -

Worth seeing if you get a clean signal from the preamp out. If you do, problem is the power section, if you don't I'd suspect the preamp tubes. ( reseating may help ) quality control would have picked up construction fault before shipping to UK, BUT , valves are not always good travellers . Mind you, I'll need counselling if mine isn't perfect ! good luck. -
