Moog Minitaur = Amazing (had to share!) EDIT: CLIP ADDED
Ancient Mariner replied to mcgraham's topic in Other Instruments
You're nuts, but nice going. -
Sorry - I realise that my reply came over as somewhat grumpy. The pedal is going to be used mainly for slap-back effects and for that price it'll probably be fantastic. However having used programmable and/or sync-able effects for more than 20 years now I personally couldn't ever go back to something so primitive. Any time based effect IMO needs to have some way to easily synchronise it to match the tempo of the song. A simple rate knob is not at all the best way to do this.
No worries - didn't take it like that.

Maybe you need to plug it into a line in port on the mixer, rather than a mic input, or perhaps there's a switch that can change channel level settings from mic to line in?
-
Well, having finally decided what to buy etc etc (Reecho, Elec lady, compressor, trelicopter plus 3 Joyo preamp pedals) tried to place the order only to find key pedals out of stock. Grrrr. So the 3 Joyos and an elec lady are ordered from WTF accessories. The Trelicopter etc will have to wait.
-
Fairy snuff. That kind of thing has never really been my bag.
-
How does it sound to you? I'm debating over this or the Reecho (which I'm leaning toward, already having a Carbon Copy which does the dark analogue repat thing, and looking to replace the PB&J on the board).

I used to run a processor ALL the time for guitar, having assembled a complex set of patches combining chorus, compression, reverbs, delays, drives etc. It's really handy to turn up with an instrument, amp and board, plug 2 items in to the mains and use 2 cables to connect up, knowing that all your sounds will be exactly as they always were, just diddling the amp a little to trim for the environment. If you're prepared to take the time to design patches fro scratch and you're happy with the un-effected signals sound then it should be adjustable to do what you want for live use. Eventually I moved to separate pedals because there were other changes in my rig and the environments I was playing in, and the processor no longer met what my ears demanded. I've used my B2.1u a couple of times playing bass in church, and was pleased with the tones it produced, even just using a couple of the presets without any adjustment except to the amp. I'm also a little 'on the edge' about grabbing one of these, but there's other things I'd rather spend the money on, plus this is a big piece of kit and I already have a couple of large processors, the B2.1u, a Behringer X-V amp, pedalboard etc etc laying around taking up space.
-
There don't seem to be issues with the chorus or drive pedals, provided they are in stock, however your caution is reasonable. I'm probably going to place an order from WTFaccessories shortly, and they also have a discount code that is especially effect if you buy 2+ pedals together using their bundle deal.

Thanks for that. The price is quite astonishing for such a comprehensive board, and while I certainly don't need it (and I hardly play bass at all right now) it is tempting just from the POV of beng a better interface to bung guitar through while occasionally using bass.
-
I've got a B2.1u already and have started using it as a recording interface, going through the USB->Mac. Any thoughts on whether the sound quality for recording with this would be better than the 2.1? For that matter, is this unit really different from my 2.1 apart from a few more knobs and switches? Worth the 'upgrade' or just carry on as is?

Sorry you're going through this - I feel somewhat responsible. China is a long way and they might feel safe. If you paid through creditcard (through paypal) you should be able to do a chargeback & recover your money if the goods haven't appeared in reasonable time.

Complete but ill 12" Celestion free to collector
Ancient Mariner replied to VTypeV4's topic in Recycling
That's right. I have an *old* 20W G12M that suffered the same issue from being suspended the same way round for decades. When I mounted it the other way round (I could feel which side the rub was) it moved away enough to be usable. It's now one of my 2 favourite speakers for its beautiful sweet, rounded voice and early breakup. -
I think that they are good for what they are, but that may not always be exactly what we expect. Demos almost always sound good, but it's very hard to hear what the pedal will do for us when someone else is doing the playing and tweaking through a completely different rig (and who knows about post-recording processing). I was very tempted by the pitch box too, but not sure I liked the voicing, especially more than a few semitones away from standard pitch. Detune would be nice to have for those 'silly' moments when someone wants to pitch a song flat or sharp and you need to play things that rely on combinations of open and fretted strings. Outside of that, I'm not too sure.

Say I wanted to get a cheap guitar...are these you know...
Ancient Mariner replied to Marvin's topic in Guitars
Probably OK. I'd check out used Pacifica 112s - there was one for sale in the forum for £65 a little while back (the guy with Kiera Knightly as an avatar) and it would be a fair bit better than either of those. -
Looks fixed now - fantastic! Thanks guys, for your hard work.

Now the 'general, Of topic etc section is accessible but everything else not. Updating?

Complete but ill 12" Celestion free to collector
Ancient Mariner replied to VTypeV4's topic in Recycling
I'd love it, but it's a long way from Staffordshire to North Oxon and a tenner is on the edge of what it's worth paying for a possibly scrap speaker. Pretty sure it's a G12H. -
I use 10 different sounds to gig with guitar.

I hope you all have one that goes meedley meedley meeeee. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkrvfC4aYEs -
I've actually been using the UT100 trem pedal for about 6 years now, and it has a permanent place on my board because it sounds really good. I noticed that the control knobs had frozen at their settings because it hasn't been changed for a long time, but a firm twist was all that was needed to make them work again. If someone would like the (4 knob) compressor pedal I have one that's almost new to shift.

Thanks Dood. In all the clips, the Green Mile sounds very tame and soft to me, although that's not necessarily bad if you want gentle dirt.
-
Matt bought a pedal from me - paid quickly - recommended.
-
Thanks Dood. I'm tempted by the green mile for guitar use - it seems to be a nice soft grainy overdrive, rather than a sharp-edged and crunchy one - and I'd also like the black secret Rat clone. I took the chorus along to a music practice tonight (come back to find it has finally sold this evening) and it actually sounded pretty good in a big environment with more volume. I'll shortly order an elec lady & trelicopter and am debating a compressor and one of the above drive pedals. I also want a couple of Joyo Tech 21-style preamp pedals for recording direct, probably the American and California. There aren't many pedals that will do the early Boogie style tone like *some* clips of the california have managed. The American can do a nice clean Fenderesque amp tone. There's quite a few clips of these pedals but many of them sound muddy and messy because they're being used as simpe, dirt pedals instead of preamps.

Congrats - love to hear what you think of 'em. Hopefully my second one will be on it's way to Holland very soon and then I'll be ordering a Trelicopter & elec lady.
