1. This was my Godin. And this is a Dynelectron - Italian copy of a Danelectro Guitarlin with 35 fret neck. Bought this used and owned it 34 years
2. Thanks MB1 - the guitar belongs to a friend now, and is the most amazing Tele I've ever played.
3. Sorry - I don't have one, but have a bump on me.
4. The Les Paul will sound little different from your Ibby IMO, and is probably a lower quality guitar, or at least on the same level. If you could acquire a Farida semi like you linked to then that would give you a greater range of tonal options, which is what I think you're after. You mentioned jangle, but also talked about using distortion & reverb. The more distortion you add the less important (and noticeable) different guitars become. Strats and Teles will do jangle effectively, as will Danelectros (V easy to play too) which would be worth a look. Also look out for a Godin Radiator - like a cross between a Les Paul and a Tele, but with fat, sparkly pickups. *edit* Just seen Skank mentioned Dano too. The one complaint with them is that they can be a bit too thin and bright, but that need not be a problem.
5. I'd not expect that Joyo to be good used that way TBH - just another tone-shaping stomp box as far as i can tell. Digitech did a number of units with a separate 'direct to PA' output, but they really sound poor used that way.
6. To help fund a purchase (being made through this forum) I need to move on some stuff. Pedals first: PedalworX Cactus Crunch - a nice 'boutique' hand wired pedal (originally $200) designed as a versatile clean boost to mild overdrive pedal, if you want something to push your amp into overdrive but don't want a Tubescreamer then this is for you. In excellent condition. £45 posted GLX Bass limiter - A Boss clone, does exactly what you would expect, great for controlling excess volume spikes without compressing your bass. Like new in the box, but with velcro, ready for your board. £22 posted Danelectro Surf & Turf - Complete (the knobs are inside the case) but not working due to a fracture in the PCB IIRC. £5.50 posted. Behringer EQ700 - Versatile EQ pedal, very similar the Boss equivalent (note - guitar frequency range). Handy for tone shaping, or if you play acoustic, dealing with feedback or 'difficult' frequencies with more control than a simple 3 band EQ. Good condition. Sold Behringer CS100 - Compressor sustainer pedal, versatile and very controllable thanks to the separate controls for level, tone, attack and sustain. Like new, still in packaging. £15 posted Pickups: Precision pickup (top) - from my original Sue Ryder bass. Decent output and sounds like a P. £10 posted Sold Jazz types (bottom) - from a Johnny Brooke Jazz bass. £10 posted Woofer - bottom right: Woofer - MDF construction, ported, inset handles, carpet covered with opening for 1X12 speaker. I picked this up locally and know nothing about it, other than it does not work well for guitar! Note - grille and speaker not included (and for anyone who cares, that is Stuart Adamson's Telecaster beside the cab). £8 collected Celestion Rocket 50 8ohm (no image) - Good condition, fully functional 12" guitar speaker. £18 posted. Postage inclusive to UK mainland only. Payment by bank transfer, cheque or cash on collection - I can't do paypal. Buy more than 1 item and and we might save a couple of quid posting them together.
7. Very much like McVie, both the tone and note selection. Speaking as a guitar player AND bassist.
8.
If the OP is determined to buy new and doesn't yet know enough about guitars to be able to pick out a good one from a range of less good instruments, then IMO the Yamaha would be the safest bet. Has anyone ever come across a duff new Yamaha guitar or bass?
I've found a couple of bad acoustics, and a magazine review for a navigator found the intonation was out sufficiently to mark it down. The Pacifica 012s (not the 112s that are so common) have/had lousy pickups and sometimes seem badly made, though they really are food-grade Argos specials.
9. If I didn't have other objects of desire then I'd very seriously consider one of these at £99.
10.
Just come up: http://basschat.co.u...ne-l95-shipped/ Liam
I immediately thought of this too. £95 is a good price for a reasonable starter strat, and delivery is included. On top of that Andy might well make sure it's set up OK first. Defo need a real guitar amp. Look for a Vox Pathfinder 15, VR15, or if you have a bit more money there is a Blackstar HT-5 combo also for sale in here, £215 delivered. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/179105-blackstar-ht5-guitar-combo-amp-l215-delivered/ That would be quite decent, and good enough to gig. So for £310 delivered to your door you'd have a decent outfit.
11. It's in the EU, but that might not make a difference. Some years back I shipped a guitar to Norway and IIRC it cost around that. About the same time I shipped a guitar back from the US and it cost about £95.
12. I bought an El Maya guitar, new, in about 1981. List price then was £250, and to put that in context, about the same as a US strat. It was beautifully made, sounded fantastic, and had to be sold because we simply needed the money a couple of years later. I'd love another if I could afford it (and find one the same). Yes, they were definitely high end.
13. Nicely rounded and yet quite present in the background. Sounds good for the song.
14. Bear in mind this uses a SS power stage, so it will probably not seem a lot louder than the Epi. Mark suggested it would need mic'ing for gigs, and that would seem about right, although if you play it through a 4X12 with celestion G12Hs it will be a lot louder than through a small, low-efficiency 1X8 cab.
15. Just a minor point - the amp draws 45 watts, but it's a 15 watt output amp (into a single 8" speaker) suitable for home practice.
16.
I have seen the tunder IIA's recently changing hands for anything between 300 and 800. Anything under 300 for a thuinder 3 is a bargain. Tell him to put it on the westone forums. These guitars make gibsons sound like a plank of wood, they are the best pick ups and active system I have ever come accross
I do remember these guitars when they were new and whilst they were OK, just like a mid-range Washburn is now, that's pretty much where they were in terms of quality. Nostalgia is nice, but lets not push our luck too hard.
17. Price (as required by Ts & Cs)?
18. This album got me into Gary Moore as a solo artist - the solos are all just so powerful. This is a collection of all the solos off the album. And coming up to date, this is Joe Bonamassa from 2006, covering a whole bunch of people.
19. If you're going to play one note, make it count, every bit of it. Another classic, this time from the 80s. And only 1 hand on the fingerboard.
20. I can't believe no one has posted any Cream yet. Regrettably I can't find my fave versions of the live solos on youtube, but for your delectation here's Eric, Jack and Ginger. Solo starts around 1min 58. And then there's Carlos, not of Jackal fame. I can remember the first time I heard Samba Pa Ti, aged 14, and I've always enjoyed this as one of my favourite solos.
21. It does seem quite a bit, although 'vintage' Japanese guitars are appreciating in value.
