  1. Having owned a pre Ernie Ball Stingray....I think the sub sounds and plays just as well.....it sometimes comes down to money....I sold the Stingray for£950 a couple of years ago. I was not playing it at all,and at the time had no intention of gigging again,also....being self employed I was skint and the sale paid the bills and let me continue my business through a bad patch. In the last years I have been buying and selling guitars on e bay...trying things out and slowly working back up to a guitar that feels and sounds right.....this Sub bass does it for me,and may be the nearest I get to my Stingray.I played it the other day when it arrived and it really is a terific guitar! I have a Tokia jazz bass,SX vintage series Jazz,a Squier Silver series jazz.....this Sub tops them all! The finish is ok.....it had been lightly relicted...but looks ok....I may paint it out,but thats about it.....I will be using it at the next gig.....yes....very happy with the Sub!
  2. I picked up a white, with red scratchplate sub from e bay last week...some of you may have seen it...the previous owner had slightly relected it.....very nice bass,heavy...but nice punchy sound....a snip at £260!...very pleased!!!
  3. On the way to the bank,on Friday evening, after being paid for a job....I decided to take a look in the local music shop(Falkirk)I needed a set of strings, and nearly made it.....but out the corner of my eye, spotted an SX Vintage Series Jazz bass hanging on the wall. Maple neck, inlays and natural finish alder body... I had played it a couple of months ago,and thought it was a cracker then.....but had no cash! I remembered someone on this very site raving about the quality of these guitars. I already have a nice Tokai Jazz bass....Squier Silver series jazz....and had just bought a Musicman bass from ebay the day before....I didn't know the price the last time I was in....the girl who was on didn't know what the owner was asking for it.....but the man himself was in on Friday........£149!!!!! brand new!........plugged it in and within seconds I was hooked........needless to say,I had a bit of a struggle thinking what to say to the wife.....2 bass guitars in the space of days!......and all that work needed in the house...not to mention the car with the wrecked engine...sitting outside my house since December....and then there is the money for the holiday.........Word of warning...don't touch these guitars with a bargepole.....they are BLOODY BLOODY BLOODY GOOD!!!......AND A CRACKING BUY AT £149. I can't get over how nice this bass is......(it cost me a bit more than £149......I gave the wife £100.....you know....go and buy yourself something.........then at bed time...well,lets leave it there....nice bass though!)
  4. Can't seem to find a thread about these...any ideas?....I,m looking to replace 2 squier p bass necks for a couple of thinner jazz type necks.....seen new ones on ebay...anyone bought any of these...Thanks,Stevie.
  5. its only wood and wire...you make it sound good!
  6. just looking at guitars on e bay......guy selling a fender jazz bass, which looks proper, serial number dates it early 70,s...claims he bought it for £300...and is looking to raise the same!...is it a copy(replica)......or is it some poor buggers knocked off pride and joy...you decide!.....its up tomorrow night, sorry no link, go on e bay,and search fender jazz bass........its a bloke in merseyside, with a dodgy less than 10 feedback....
  7. The new ones seem to be made in China, according to one seller.....I am looking at the jazz and precision type bass.
  8. Just had a look on e bay,a few brand new Tokai jazz bass and precision bass guitars are up for sale......being a big fan of the original 80,s Fender clones,I wondered if anyone has tried these new made in china versions. I have an early 80,s jazz bass and it is brill!
  9. I played bass guitar in the early ninties with a band from Glasgow called Columbus Road. The band asked Alan Longmuir,of Bay City Rollers fame to play bass on one track of an album that the band were putting out on their own label. He did a decent job of it...but when he left,we used my version of it,which went on the album (I think the singer still has about 700 copies under his bed...) Alan later came back and plumbed in our guitarists gas cooker.......clever man!
  10. I played in Glasgow with my band last Friday night,in a place called Rockers.....it was freezing cold outside, and my guitar had been in my home office all day(wee room with rubbish, dvds etc) I put it in a soft gig bag,out into my van for the 30 minute drive to Glasgow, then into the band room of the venue......After about an hour,I tuned it and then we sound checked.....it was well out on a couple of strings......I might have bumped into something on the stage,as its a bit compact and we are a 5 piece band.... After the sound check,I tuned it and checked it a couple of times.....I have a small Korg tuner, with the built in mike.....It seemed to be picking up everysound in the venue,so I used the guitar players tuner on his zoom pedal..... When we started to play...it was out of tune again.....I wished the stage would open up and swallow me......I tuned it during the song, but everybody in the bloody place noticed!........Something to do with the hot, then cold, then hot situation maybe!.....its a Tokai Jazz sound bass, never had any tuning issues before.....though the strings were a couple of weeks old...so maybe not played in yet!...any one else had this trouble?
