1. ooh Railway? I played a gig there a little while back, should be going back to check out and take part in the big heavy one-off jam night on Halloween too Its the only venue in the town of my Uni. I dunno what kind of size and quality venues you're used to but its a good one, I'd come down and check you guys out but its really not my kinda music.
2. I wanna say HELL YEAH but I can't collect any idea how much postage might cost? Could see how much a courier would collect for. EDIT: ok, UPS charge about 40 to collect it from Grantham and deliver to London so colour me very seriously interested. Is it just so cheap cause its old and a bit wear'n'teary then? I can't afford a gigging amp and have to borrow equipment every gig so this would be ideal

6. Hi people, my band have some new recordings up - only done with a video-camera but I think the sound came out pretty well. Critique would be greatly appreciated: the first 3 songs on the myspace are recent, the last one is very old and uses a drum machine. 7. agreed, is a lovely bass, got me a Levin too (aint orange though)
8. Hey, these are the first session recordings in practice with my first band, The Shenanigans (hopefully will have a name change soon). Check out the admittedly mistake-ridden practice vids here and give some feedback please. I am the bassist of course please note the extremely compact space we have in my uni room to practice in, also at 0:17 on song Section 666, where the drummer accidentally hits my bass with his drumstick! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4cjopVOVTXo others can be found on users account.
9. Cheers, this is stuff I completely overlooked without having a teacher or anything. Pretty simple stuff - thanks. I'll get my timing down, should be having a jam sesh with some friends soon so i'm sure having a real drumkit there should help things along in that respect. Also as for the hunching over, yeah that would be a major problem, largely cause i'd appear like some sort of crab-thing in the corner of the stage curled in a ball around my bass I usually play standing up, when i'm sitting down I do slouch and that effects my timing also with my wrist in a less natural position. I will work on these and try another song some time and get it I can't help but not play the original version of the bass in any song. I don't know why, its too hard to do and I need to discipline myself a little more in that respect for band performances. Thanks for the advice velvetkevorkian
10. Hi, I've been playing bass for a few months and thought "hey, I need a second opinion on my technique" as I haven't had lessons on bass before (though I have had a few guitar ones in the past). Anyway its obviously far from perfect - that's not the point otherwise I wouldn't have done it on a guitar amp and i'd probably try and look cool and stop resting my head lazily on the bass as I tend to do sitting down. Any advice or anything would be appreciated as my judgement is hardly knowledgeable or objective. Cheers! http://vimeo.com/11403442 Oh, and I meant to remove the fiddly bit at beginning but forgot... ignore it.
11. Many bands started me on the path: Soundgarden, Black Sabbath, Thin Lizzy. Primus really made me see the Bass guitar in a new light too, Claypool sealed the deal.
12. I just missed out on these too - sold fast, Unsurprisingly.
13. I have been considering playing the lower 4 strings as if I were on a four-string but the issue I've been thinking about is that if I were to do this in practice later dow the line with a band, i'd be playing in the wrong key to everybody else. That said, my music theory isn't up to scratch so I may be wrong. Thanks for the advice so far though! Reassuring to know i'm not the only perosn facing this challenge.
14. I recently purchased a second-hand 5 String bass of a fellow Basschat member and, after looking at various online resources (of which there are surprisingly many) I can't find many relating to 5-string learning; nor are there many tabs for a 5-string bass. Can anybody advise me of how to tackle the extra string while learning from 4-tring resources?
15. a bass for £45? I may be new to the whole Bass guitar thing but surely there must be some catch?
16. now that is a NICE bit of kit. Any chance you'd be willing to sell seperate from hard-case as i'm getting one for Christmas anyway?
