I finally took it back to the shop after finding myself unable to remedy the situation. I dealt with Dawsons in Stockport and Chester and they ordered up a new Stagg EUB from their warehouse. When the new one was taken out of the box by the assistant (Sam) it had exactly the same issue! He then asked for the warehouse to try them before selecting a new one to send up. The upshot of all this is that I'm now the owner of a beautiful, red Stagg EUB! Dawson's were really helpful and kept me updated of all the shenanigans going on. ....now I've got to learn to play...!!?

Thanks everyone. I'll have a good look at the strings before going any further. Ferg

Hey all, I've finally taken the plunge and spent a few quid on a Stagg EUB. I've just started fiddling around on it and noticed an annoying 'fret' buzz around the 2nd/3rd 'fret' on the D & G strings. I've tried all sorts of combinations of bridge height and nut height (bits of cardboard on the nut!) all to no obvious avail. There is no blindingly obvious 'lump' or 'dent' on the fingerboard. I've also noticed that there is not a lot of relief in the neck at the moment. So...my options are.. 1. Take it back to the shop. 2. Try adjusting the truss rod to give the neck some relief. 3. Take it to a luthier to have a look at the fingerboard. Is it worth having a go at the truss rod? Is there a risk of breaking it/making things worse? Thanks in anticipation for any help offered. Ferg

So... there I was playing bass for a hobby and in bands for 20 years. I was happy with the bargain basement gear I had. I had no problem with my Hohner and my Peavey gear. I only came on this site to see if I could get some advice about live monitoring! Now...my hohner's gone and a Warwick Corvette $$ is in its place. My Peavey gear is severely under threat. Do NOT under ANY circumstances look at the Gear Porn thread, your bank balance would only suffer. I've started encouraging the wife to spend just so I have an excuse to trawl through the For Sale section on here! Listen to me - HEED MY WARNING - turn back now before it's too late!! ...right, let's have another look at that Mark Bass gear (BURP!!).....!?
So there is a pin on the bass and on the strap it has a cup/ring that goes around the pin with a centre button that you pull? I've had no issues with any of my basses regardless of type... other than the nut slowly unscrewing over time (years), which means that every now and again I just give them a nip/tighten with a spanner/pliers.
OK - cheers for that!
Which straplocks are they? Warwick do recessed and external 'pin' type but neither should be coming loose easily... I've had Warwick basses 20+ years and even when I jumped about like a loon (a long time ago), they never came undone! Do you have or do you know anyone with a spare strapfitting that you could try so that you can establish if it is that part that is defective?
It's the external pin type. It seems to come loose with even the lightest touch!! You not having that issue?
-
Having just bought a Corvette $$, I have a question about the straplocks they provide. It seems that the slightest touch on the end releases the bass from the strap. Am I doing something wrong or should it really be that precarious? It seems only a matter of time before it crashes to the ground mid-gig!!

We went into the studio to do a demo and our drummer took some video whilst we played. He did a half decent job of editing I think!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YikQDCGMnpc I took my old Hohner B2AV in but it didn't cut the mustard so I played this Ibanez that was gathering dust in the corner. Needless to say the B2AV's now gone and I've bought a well travelled Corvette $$ from Basschat!!

Hi, I've fallen out of love with my handy B2AV! I think I need a new toy! I've had it for 3 or 4 years. It's gigged very reliably over that time. Will make a great spare or travel instrument. It's really handy in tight spots (small gigs) and easy on the back (less than 8 1/2 lbs). It's in really good nick with no blemishes to note apart from the usual very light scratches where my thumb sat abover the neck pick-up. I'll get some photos up when I can. I'm looking to upgrade to a Warwick/Spector fiver so will part ex. Solid Californian Maple neck-through-body construction - 24 fret full 2 octave Rosewood fingerboard - Steinberger® licensed headless DB detunable bridge - Two Select by EMG® J-style pickups - Active tone controls - Active on/off switch with LED - Two volume and one concentric active tone control - Two-way adjustable truss rod - Fold-out leg rest - Walnut Satin finish Cheers, Fergy

Peeps, I went into the studio to record some songs this weekend and my Hohner Steinberger B2AV just did not cut the mustard . I've been a bit frustrated with it for a while now tbh. I've now started looking for a replacement. I'm looking for another five with a narrow neck. We play your average birthday/wedding/pub gigs - standard musical prostitution really! I've been drawn towards Spectors initially. Is there anything to look out for with these? Are there other makes/models worth looking at as well. Thanks in anticipation. Ferg

Does anyone here know of anyone producing simple bass pedals similar to those old Moog Taurus pedals. I thought they'd be nice to have to add a little more bottom just when you need it?
Plus if you and the drummer are tight, having the kick from the same sound source really helps create a solid sound, almost like the beat of the kick is the beginning of your bass note.
That's us knackered then!! Cheers guys. Thanks for the advice - some food for thought there. All the best!
