1. Yeah, I really don't like the Marshall reverb. I'm quite liking the variety of reverbs in my M9 at the moment, and as far as I know they all come from the Verbzilla, so +1 for that.
2.
What the hell is this "cease transmission"? And where can I get one?
http://www.fxdoctor.com/site/ceasetransmission.html
3. I'll definitely look into it. Like I say, I'm not sure how if the pedal can cope with it, as it works with a touch sensitive button. If you touch other metal things, it stops. And if someone touches you, the note changes. It's really sensitive like that!
4. It's something to do with the grounding of the pedal that means it has to use a battery I think
5. Yeah, pretty much. Combined with the world of possibilities the M9 gives after it, it's a pretty neat little pedal. Only downside is it will only take batteries, and I don't know how long it lasts for I can see me forgetting to switch it off. Took long enough to get hold of though.
6. Okay, I can't see this changing for a while now. I don't think I've got the room to add anything to it, and I'm pretty happy with everything that's there! My phone's rubbish for taking photos, I know. The chain is... X2 Volume pedal (Turbo Tuner is in the tuner out) SFX loop/boost/EQ box (Single knob Hyperpak clone with added blend and drive knobs is in the FX loop) Line 6 M9 (second pedal is the expression pedal for this) Okko FX Coca Comp The pink pedal is an FX Doctor Cease Transmission. It's great fun, makes some really stupid noises, and it's plugged into the second input on the M9.
7.
Cool. in the nicest possible way.. always phone first. Don't rely on email.
I've had exchanges with them in the past about various things via email and they've always been prompt, so I'd never had the need to ring them before. That was what seemed odd about the situation. They still never did say why they didn't reply to them. And I still think that's bad form. But email was also never intended as the sole method of communication, I just happened to post this to see if anyone had had similar experience with them at the time, and the timing of that coincided with being before I got round to phoning them. It also wasn't me who ordered those strings in the first place - I took over from someone else who had been chasing them up, and the way they had chosen to pursue it is nothing to do with me. It isn't a 'lesson learned' kind of thing.
8. Okay, just to give an end to a story. Took a good few ineffective phonecalls, and long waits, but the strings finally came. Overwater sent one set down to the place I was staying at and recording in while I was there, which was good of them, and the other two sets turned up when I got home a couple of weeks later. They chucked a few spare B strings in for me too. So overall, a bit messy, but they did come through... eventually. I bear no will to Overwater over this whole thing! I think they have been having problems as I'm ordering 7 string sets, which aren't so common. Don't want to put people off, as they're good strings
9.
see any black 4 string basses up there?
I'm gonna ask the same question - I'm waiting on a JJ at the moment!
10. We've been offered the same thing. Our guitarist is going for it, as it'll save him about £2 a set on the strings he's buying now. He gets his 'special' price if he orders ten sets at once I think. Which is pretty much what he does anyway normally. It would save me money a little to use them, but I've been told that I will only get their discounted price if I order at least 20 sets at once. At £15 each, I think not. Endorsement or not though, he says they're decent strings, and feel close enough to his Ernie Balls. So it might be worth at least trying a set and seeing what you think.
11. I don't see why it would. It never did when I was using that QSC poweramp. I prefer to be mic'd anyway, but if there's a DI signal being used, then that's pretty much as clean as possible, and not taken from my head normally. So it would be the signal unaffected by the filtering. Not that I think it would be detrimental to the FOH sound anyway.
12. That's something else to mention - I don't have an FX loop, else I'd put a graphic EQ in there or something to do this job.
13.
This actually sounds like a really good idea and I'm surprised that the issue hasn't been raised on this forum before. In theory, I suspect it might work best placed before your effects pedals in the signal chain as it will make the signal hitting them clearer also, potentially allowing for better sounds from them. I'd be very interested to hear it working in practice - though I'd be concerned that on a big stage and with PA support that the bass might sound a little lacking (through 2x18 subs for example?) Or is this just speculation?
Well I use some synth and sub octave effects in my pedalboard, which I reckon will probably be creating some nhealthy frequencies anyway. So I think it ill have to go after them. When I did have filters before, I never found the bass lacking. I mean, I play a Schroeder 1212L at the moment which isn't the most bottom heavy cab anyway. These are frequencies which the speakers in the cab cant even use properly, so I don't think you'd notice the low end being lost at all.
14. Well, it is a full pedalboard, so it's not the most convenient place in the world to put it. But it's got to be worth an experiment. Don't fancy buying up a new cab to get round the problem if I can help it!
15. Okay, on my old QSC power amp, I had a 30/50Hz filter to block out all the extreme lows from reaching my cab and effectively making the cab more efficient. Which is always good, right? Since moving to a couple of different amps of varying designs, I've had problems with sometimes getting farting sounds, and also knackered a speaker's dust cap. Even when it doesn't feel like I'm pushing excessive bass or anything. I'd be interested to see if something to filter out those frequencies would make a difference. I have a small crossover I can try this with to see if the concept works, but where does it actually need to go? If I put it after my pedals but before the amp, would this be enough, or are these frequencies actually generated in the amp itself, even if it isn't fed a signal below 50Hz? If the frequencies are generated in the amp, then how would I go about stopping them reaching my cab?
16. That's the plan, I'm quite partial to not having to remove everything just to put it on an identical board again Just so you're aware though, as of Monday I'm away from a computer for three weeks. So if things go in your favour and you get everything sorted and still want to swap things round, then cut me some slack in replying until the 22nd March
17. Is this the same as the Whammy pedal's power requirements? I seem to remember that having a small connector, and 1.3A AC requirements. If so, I got a replacement power supply for my Whammy from Effect Power Supplies online store and it worked a treat. Dead quiet and compact compared to the Maplins one I was using too.
18. Okay, so every bass I've ever had and intonated has been easy to intonate. Turn a screw the right direction, job's a good'un! But I've just come to intonating my Shuker, with monorails. There seems to be no way to adjust the intonation without physically moving the saddles. Which can only be done when the strings aren't putting pressure on them. Does that mean I have to slacken the strings every time I want to make an adjustment? That makes fine tuning tinonation almost impossible, if so. Or am I missing something really obvious here?
19. endless amounts of want
20. It was Hella Good by No Doubt that planted bassy thoughts in my head when I was probably about 10 or something. I thought the sound and image of Tony Kanal when I saw it on Top of The Pops was awesome. Didn't really know it was a bass guitar, or anything else about music though!
21. Yeah, I plan to phone later. Whenever I've been thinking about the subject, it's always been outside office hours, but I've got a day off today so I'm going to see what's what.
