Wondered about this too, but for 7 string sets - most of the obvious choices seem to be limited to 6 strings only :/

Possibly not boutique, but I've found that I don't have the space for regular sized patch leads, and George L's have been great for me. As long as you know how to put them together (most people reporting errors with them are not building them properly) and don't stomp all over them, they are great. If money and space was no object though, I would get some cables made up from proper Neutrik connectors and everything. Such as the OBBM ones, for instance.

My band is doing demos for the album we're recording next year at the moment, and we're doing it on the cheap to keep costs down, and hopefully get it done quickly. So the drums have been recorded already with a friend of ours, and the guitar is being recorded at the guitarist's house through his Line 6 Guitarport (which sounds pretty lol for the distortion, but it does the job for a demo quite happily). I'm supposed to be doing the bass at my house too. But I'm not really set up for it. I have an external soundcard with two inputs (Tascam US-122), but that's about it. I have some monitors on order though. Can't do anything until they get here. Originally I was just going to go direct into the interface and then use Guitar Rig for an amp simulator and just put up with the okay sound I'd get, but now I'm planning to utilise both channels of my recording interface by sending a DI signal from my EBS Microbass II to one channel for fundamental bassy tones and cleans (gives me a little preamp control, as well as speaker simulation), and then mic my amp and send that overdriven sound to the second channel simultaneously. All being well, that should sound awesome! Especially as my new Matamp head is just about finished and ready to pickup However, I'm pretty noobish at this, so I could end up managing to cock such a simple plan up I'll need to do it in the daytime when there's nobody to disturb in the house or next door, so I can crank the Matamp to something usable. But I'll also need a microphone for the plan to work :/ I have a Sennheiser e835 that I bought for my vocals in the band which I can use, but I don't imagine that will sound ideal. When did microphones get so expensive? I want an SM57, but they're about £100. I'm sure the 58 and 57 could be picked up for about £70 last time I checked a couple of years ago? I've had a lot of people telling me to use a kick drum mic, but I reckon a 57 would be a better investment as an "it will do anything pretty well" mic for home recording, and I only really need the mic for the mids and treble. I'll be using the DI for the lows. It'll also be the mic I plan to take round for shows as well - I'm aiming to do the same thing live as I do recorded, with blending the DI with the aggressive mic'd sound. I don't mind buying something like this as an investment - but I'll need the mic, a bass drum mic stand and a couple of mic leads, which is all adding up to about £150 I reckon. Cheaper way of doing this, anyone? I'm wary of eBay bargains from hearing so many stories of counterfeit Shure mics

Powersoft ones are supposed to be ridiculously light. They also have a huge pricetag.

Yeah, when I went up, they had a GT200 in stock to try out. There was an 8x10 to try, which was currently out of action as Jeff had stolen the speakers from it for another cab! There was also a ported 4x10 upstairs and a customer's newly completed sealed 4x10 which he was happy to let me try. I also took my own cab and he was more than happy for me to give it a blast through that. Actually, once I started trying one thing, Jeff wasn't happy until I had tried just about everything he could make me try that was lying around

"amp is built, needs testing" I'm a giddy boy.

I got it to nail the sound on Glassjaw's first album when I tried it through my Schroeder 1212L, as a point of reference. Don't know if you've heard it though. Was plenty grindy! Not tried it with a full band yet, so I may need to adjust some settings a bit, as well as the volume! Will let you know - though if you could clarify what you mean by low volume? Talking a small gig? Practice amp?

I messed around with the fuzzes and distortions, and while none of them sounded great to my ears, I could get some servicable sounds. If I tweaked a bit more, I'm sure it would be possible to find usable sounds. Especially pushing a valve amp. The blend function would be really nice on the distortions though. I've already said that on the Line 6 forum, and put in for a feature request about it. If they're as good as they have been with previous updates, and enough people request it, you might see it. Probably just one new bass distortion model with a blend control I reckon, if we're lucky. There aren't enough knobs spare on most of the distortions to put another perameter in. But go and request it on their site! Saying all this, I still use a Hyperpak for my distortion, so make of that what you will.

Let me know if you plan to play in Sheffield itself Andy and I'll definitely pop down!

I don't know what people consider noisy and not for poweramps really, so Steve's comparison with the Crown is going to be of more use than mine. All I can say is that it isn't 100% silent, but it depends if you're massively bothered about that, because otherwise I don't think you'll find a single amp with a fan which is always on that you'll be happy with? -
Could be something to do with the pickup height?

I've seen someone post that picture up on a doom forum saying it was them, I'm sure (the second one).
