CLosest thing I can think of is that some volume pedals will let you set the heel down position at a minimum volume, so you'd just have to set your amp louder and use the amp's new top volume as your boost, if that makes sense?
-
Basically, you just need to decide whether you want one cab clean ALL the time or not? If you do, then split the signal before any effects, and only apply them to the effected cab. If you want some effects to go to both amps, then split the signal after them. Should be pretty self explanatory otherwise?
-
I need mine in less than 10 working days is the only problem with buying from Tonefactor
-
As long as you have something which will split your signal in two, and access to two amps, you can try it. So borrow a friend's rig, or use a decent combo you have lying around to test it out? You don't need a dedicated splitter to try it either, as long as you have something lying around with two outputs. I used a DL4 delay pedal to split my signal when testing it, as it has two outputs

Just make sure the cab for your clean lows can keep up with the distorted cab. The distortion cab won't need to be as big, or as loud as the other one to get as loud, especially if you are using a crossover or low/high pass filter somewhere along the line. Also, think about the space. Are you going to run two amps? If you're using an Ampeg SVT, I'd assume you'd want something similar for the other head. It is much simpler with a stereo power amp and two preamps in a rack in my experience. YMMV. I am currently using: Bass, going into my pedalboard where the signal is split after a few effects (tuner, volume pedal, octave pedal, whammy pedal) and then everything below around 375Hz is cut off from my 'lows channel', fed into an Aguilar Tonehammer and then into my poweramp. The other side runs full range (though I knock most of the bass out of it), through all my drive pedals and other effects before going into an Ampeg SVP-Pro preamp and the same poweramp. Each channel has its own volume control, and feeds a separate Schroeder 1212L. I think the best thing you can do is try it and see, but it isn't necessarily a cheap thing to do, especially if you want quite specialised stuff to do it with. It does sound good, but I feel like I want a different cab for the low end part of it. I may also be selling it all up for one filthy valve head at some point in the future, so time will tell if I REALLY like it that much

I think buying a blender and experimenting would be a cheaper option to see if you like it. it'll show you some possibilities. And if you do decide moving onto having two amps, then you'll be making an informed choice then
-
Then why did you sell the Sunn? This now the Glassjaw tone appreciation thread?

I'm almost there now to be honest, but with different settings entirely! I have an active bass (treble boost, low cut) then on the amp a low mid boost, a bass cut and a treble boost going on, with my Ampeg preamp. It's not QUITE grindy enough though. It is closer when I've got my Cream Pie running into it, but still sounds a little... sterile? Oh, and a pick. Yes. Most important part of it!

Only one I've tried was a Matamp GT1... Wasn't that impressed with the overall sound, but I'm willing to experiment

Pretty univerally £329.99. Except dv247 who have it for £326.71. Dunno if any of those are postage free. Tonefactor works out about £280 with their $20 shipping I think? But you'll wait longer to get it. They're usually pretty good with customs, but you never know.

Considering asking to borrow my guitarists Triple X head to run through one of my Schroeders for an hour or two. Not quite the head I'd go for, but I bet it'd be fun ^_^

Looks all Ampeg to me. How did this turn into a Timmy C thread? XD

Right... where to start... My intial thoughts were something fairly low powered comparatively speaking. Someone mentioned the VBA400, for instance - I used to have one of these. I could not for the life of me make it grind filthily because it was just too bloody loud! I couldn't get it loud enough to overdrive without it being impractical. So I was thinking of anything between 100-200Wish. I'm aware that they're pretty much just nominal values though.
A GT200 with 83's in it has got to be the ultimate dirty sound for my money... but then I am biased
This joke never gets old
You are still running two rigs aren't you, one clean, one dirty?
Currently, yes. May change this aspect of things, may not. I'm not entirely sure yet. If I go with a cranked guitar amp, I fear it might not have enough 'rumble' to fill things out a little bit on its own though. Really want to try a few things out to get more of a feel for it all though. Pretty much all of these options are horrendously expensive, so it's worth holding out for something I know is good
-
I was under the impression that he used 3 SVT-IIs, one which ran a clean 8x10, and then two 4x10s which were at two different levels of gain, and he switched between them, rather than what you suggested? But I'm not entirely sure.

Man, Manny's tone was so much better than the replacement bassist on Worship and Tribute though in general. As far as I know, EYEWTKAS was recorded through a Portaflex combo with a Proco Rat as well. Which is what is making me think of going down the SVT route!

Looking to buy a new head in the near future. Money is (virtually) no object. I will save for the right thing. Basically I'm running an Ampeg SVP preamp into a poweramp right now, and I have the drive control maxed out, but it still isn't driving enough for me. I want an absolutely filthy sounding amp, that still sounds like I have control over it, not like I'm fighting against how noisy it is. The solid state power amp feels like its telling me to wind back a bit, whereas the valve amp I used to have felt like it was always encouraging me to push it more and more. So I'm definitely after a valve head. But I don't want something which only sounds good when you're running it at mega volume. Has to be able to do the same kind of sound at lower volumes too, for rehearsals and gigs where I need a lower onstage volume. So I was thinking of maybe a lower wattage head? I don't need or want 400 clean watts. If you need an idea of what I want to sound like, listen to the first album by Glassjaw (Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Silence) and you'll have a very good idea. Checkitout: Especially around 2:15 in that bass break. I know the album was recorded with a distortion pedal as well, but I reckon the right amp could squeeze that kind of tone out. Current front runners are an SVT-II and the Matamp GT200 (especially tasty sounding, looking at the drive dial!). However, I really want to try out as many possibilities as possible. So if anyone has anything along these lines, would you consider letting me try it out so I can get somewhere closer to an informed decision? I'm in Sheffield. Any help mega appreciated!

Takes up more room than I'd like to do that. M9 is fine for me on its own with a couple of expression pedals. Infact, what's the smallest pedaltrain I can get an M9, two EB jr pedals and a couple of other stompboxes on? I don't think I'll fit on a Jr but I'm thinking the PT2 might be too big :/

Pedalboard is now gone

The M13 would actually suit me better in terms of replacing what I have (had) at the moment, but I'm using it as an excuse to downsize as well. I'm trying to stick to keep it simple...
-
You can buy an adapter for them to run with a 9v power supply. You can't use a regular daisychain cable. I'm not sure they fit. But yeah, if you do a google search, you should be able to find them. Diago make them (its their 'green adapter'), but you can get them cheaper.

mammoth clone with impedance knob. i'm not really sure on the grey areas of selling clone pedals tbh, following the mammoth thread in the effects forum, which is why i haven't advertised it. but i don't really need it.

that did make me lol a little, gj XD

thanks, they're true bypass
