hello

Hey Luke Its fatbandit
2. Nah, I reckon most of them are arseholes to be honest. Or idiots. Or worse still - both.
3. Yeah, but I wouldn't have MX any other way
4. Steeeeeeve. Mine was Informer Centipede. Not very epic
5. I use an Ampeg SVP preamp into a QSC 1200w power amp, and a Schroeder 1212L cab. I use about a quarter of the power of it, and I'm already too loud at practices, which are normally louder than the onstage sound at gigs. Fairly light, and will fit in your boot - You can carry the whole thing in two hands if you're feeling man enough.
6. I have the gain on about 9 o clock (it always clips), the drive on full and the master on about 12 o clock. I have to say I don't have any of the problems you mention, but the gain knob is VERY sensitive, and will change the nice musical clipping into horrid distortion at the slightest movement of the gain knob. Try laying off the gain knob a bit?
7. I'm not sure what the spacing is - but I'd say with these things the tighter the spacing the better, especially at the nut. The Conklin I have now has a much larger string spacing at the nut than my old Conklin or my Shuker, and it makes it a lot harder to play IMO. I haven't had a go on it since he's got it in working order - the F# was buggered on it for some reason at that point. But I'd say if you're used to that Conklin GTBD-7 profile, its definitely chunkier, and it weighs more. From what I can remember (not given it a go in a long time), I'd say that the sound is 'phatter' than the Conklin, but I don't think it goes quite as delicate sounding. Again, I never really gave it much of a play though, so I wouldn't really want to be quick to judge in that regard. How you getting on with that Conklin anyway?
8. Shush you I can't afford it right now anyway. I still need to get a play on your Dingwall sometime too!
9. Selling this on behalf of my guitarist. I can vouch for him as a sound guy and a safe seller, so don't worry that this item isn't being sold by me. He didn't want to sign up just to sell this though, so here's his spiel: "I'm selling my 7 string bass I got a few years ago. It's in great condition, no scratches or dents to speak of. Never gigged with it (I don't really play bass ). This is an active/passive bass, meaning it can be run as a passive bass or active, the controls on the bass are: >Master volume (push/pull knob to activate active circuit) >3 way pick-up selector kno >Active pickup controls (Bass, middle and treble) This bass sounds and plays really nicely, I set it up when I got it to have pretty low action so I could do/attempt some tap bass. I'll throw in a bass gig bag with it also for no extra cost. This bass is quite unusual for a 7 string bass as its strung up with 2 extra lows and 1 extra high, usually 7 string basses have 1 extra low and 2 extra high. This bass is tuned F#,B,E,A,D,G,C. I'm willing to let this go for £275, but am willing to take offers on it. Haggle with me It cost me £400 new about 2 years ago. PM me if you're interested." PM me if you're interested - I'll pass on his email address. Ta ducks!

11. Sick. Gonna have to try that out ^_^
12. Aye, I just hacked at my Levy's strap with a knife and had a good mash at it to compact it with some pliers, then spent a good 20 minutes swearing and pliering the straplocks into position. Naturally, I put one on the wrong way round, so I had to do it all over again ¬_¬
13. I only use mine for making loops of really phat noise, so it doesn't have to be in time. But if we do attempt something like that, we normally just record a loop, and make do with whatever crappy timing I pull out of it Never try to get you and your guitarist simultaneously looping. From experience, this is pretty much impossible And I don't really use the EHXSMM/H for looping, but while you can change the tempo on the fly, its not tap tempo, and it changes the pitch of the loop. Actucally, can you change it with the tap tempo button while the loop is going? I've never tried that.

Cables

I use OBBM cables for instrument leads, speaker leads, Speakons etc, but for patch leads I find that one of the big advantages that George Ls have is the space that they save. The OBBM patch leads are bulkier, which counts for a lot on a packed board!
15. The carpet lining the inside of my Diago board was always coming unstuck from the board from the weight of the pedals mounted on it. It was damaging leads and things, so eventually I took everything out, took the carpet up and stuck it back down with PVA glue, and left heavy stuff on it while it dried. Then I used heavy duty roofing nails every 10cm or so round the edge, and a few in the middle, to make sure it wouldn't come up again. That's worked flawlessly so far for me
16. Yeah, my rig is noisy in our practice room, but not at gigs or in my house too, so try it out in a different place before splashing any money out
17.
Thirded, I would love a Misc section, I have a bunch of old vintage console stuff to sell!
What you got? My mate collects that stuff PM me if its not appropriate here
18. Wild Wild West was better than I Wish anyway.
19. I have a Sennheiser equivalent, though I forget the model number. Its been excellent - well built and REALLY clear so far, but I don't treat it like poop, so I wouldn't expect it to pack up on me. Cheaper than the 58 too....
20. I wanted someone to build me a 7 string bass. I had a Conklin, and wasn't going to get a better one off the shelf (IMO) for any kind of comparative money (especially once shipping from the states was taken into account etc). Jon happened to work about half an hours walk from my house. My decision to go with Jon was NOT based solely on his reputation on this forum. I also played a tenor 5 string while I was there which is without doubt THE nicest sounding and playing bass I have ever touched. Trumps my Shuker 7 and anything else I have laid eyes/ears/fingers on. I think it belonged to Rob, but I'm not sure. That sealed the deal for me I think. He is also a top lad.
21. Sorry if this is obvious, but what's the sweatband for? And I'm totally robbing your pickholder idea. I always forget mine D:
22. Yup, mine came today too! Not had a chance to plug it in yet, but I've slipped a couple of 9vs in for time being at least. I didn't realise it was sparkly green, not black
23. What a great attitude. That's exactly like me at the moment. People ask things like 'you spent HOW much?', but... what else would I spend it on? I don't have any vices, virtually no bills... Life is great and gear filled
24. I've bypassed the banks and gone straight to the bank of dad, haha! Paying back over the course of two months. Meaning that my next two months at work is not paying for food or transport or clothes or... anything except this bass ;D Can't wait though. Will sit very pretty next to my Shuker
