1. Okay, a quick question or two. I've never really gotten along with the ER20s I have. They make everything seem too 'detached' when I'm playing live, and while it allows me to pitch better when I'm singing, I cannot gauge how loud I'm singing, so end up singing really quietly! However, I'm really contemplating dropping the bomb on these ER15s now I have a job. Its only a weeks wages, y'know? Am I fine just to walk into any Specsavers and sort them out in there? I think the 15 decibel reduction may be more for me than the 20 decibel reduction the ER20s give me (supposedly). And I may even drop it to the 9 decibel filters. I like to be able to hear my music loud, but I don't want to lose my hearing! Also, Dood mentioned some earphones that fit directly into the ER15s. I looked on their site, and found they made earphones, but didn't see any specifically for plugging into their earplugs. Can anyone link me? Ta ducks.
2. I don't actually have the space for it, haha. I may have to do something along those lines though :/ I'm sure there is a better solution though.
3. Oh boo. So what's the most practical way of doing it then? I'm going to assume that I won't be able to get my hands on one of the Diago adapters anytime soon.
that's not actually going to work, sorry :/ the blue box shows your power supply (i'm assuming here that you'd be daisy chaining them), the yellow is the pedal....as you can see, when you try to connect the two +9v and ground connections in series inside the pedal to make 18v, all you end up doing is shorting the supply (red line)
4. The 18v adapter has been out of stock for a long time, but yeh, can you use two battery clip adapters and just plug them to the two battery caps inside the pedal? That'd provide 9v to each one, just like two 9v batteries would I guess.
5. I already have my main daisychain, a 12v for my wireless and the AC supply for my Whammy on my board. I don't really want another PSU. Which reminds me - are there any power supplies that will work with the Whammy that just go from plug to pedal (like a 1spot?), without a massive bit in the middle. My Whammy's power supply takes up a space the size of another pedal, and I could do with utilising it! If I could power everything from one small PSU I would, but alas... Make the best of a bad situation
6. Oh, now that is a swish idea. I like it.
7. I'm planning on using it as my main grit unit to replace my Cream Pie (which sounds too much like my amp already does without it), so I'd be interested to see what you reckons about it in that kind of context. I also need a good power solution for it. I'm not going to use batteries, and I can't seem to get my hands on an 18v converter. I think I may turn to the comparatively expensive 'virtual batteries' for it.
8. I've been informed that the next batch of Tonehammers are due for arrival with the bass merchant on the 1st November.
9. There's been one other thread about the Tonehammer in this forum I think. Didn't reach a massive size. Now Talkbass on the other hand.
10. Intelligent post ++ Does anybody else find it annoying, on a completely different note, how many turns of the string there are on that tuning peg in the Bass Day advert at the top of the page?
11.
heh heh!!! bloomin Mustang Sally!!!! - No pictures yet... I have asked for some though, as this build diary has been a little bit luke warm in comparison to the Doodle monster thread! Jon is keeping the bass under wraps though, as, mentioned in previous posts, he has a little surprise for me! Whcih I think will be very cool! (..and obviously sending pictures would kinda negate the surprise!!!) Dan.
I hope the surprise is an inlay of your face spanning from the 9th to the 15th fret
12. I'm more interested in the AGS than what the EBS has to offer, personally.
13. Yeah, if it falls well for me, I'd definitely be up for one. Transport for my board may be of bigger concern though! Its too unwieldy and big for a train and I don't drive :/
14. Well I was going to buy from the Bass Merchant. But if they're sold out... too bad. I'll email and ask the situation. If not, Gallery it is, I guess!
15. I was going to order one tonight ¬_¬
16. I own one of these and very much like it - I have it on all the time for that slight fattening, and it doesn't overwhelm the sound by any means. Snap it up peoples - old Boss pedals were actually pretty nice Good luck with the sale!
17. Not 2? Dang. I'll work round it.
8 and 4 ohms
18. I would hazard a guess that the BL-6 would justabout fit (I like small string spacings), as some of the 6 string EMG pickups (and I'm sure many others) also do. However, when you take into account the slant, they may not quite be long enough, as you suggest. I'd be interested to see about that. I'm still not totally convinced about the Q-Tuners being the best for using with a pick. Things like EMGs and Seymour Duncans may not give such a perfect replication of the bass' tone, but you know what you're getting with them, and they'll be plenty aggressive. I really want to like the Q-Tuners though! And here's a couple of pics of Rich's J5 (hope you don't mind!) so you can see where I'm coming from lookswise
19. I tuned my low B up to a C yesterday briefly, and the clarity and tension on it was superb. If I had that kind of tension in my B all the time, I'd be happy. I did look at Q-Tuners actually! I'm interested for sure. But I don't think they're the pickup of choice for pick playing. I know that isn't your thing at all Alex, but do you have any insight on that? And Mikey - let me know for sure I'm free most afternoons after work (about 3 onwards). I don't think I can make it to Bassday, but I can definitely make it somewhere in Sheffield Whereabouts are you based?
20. Well yes, the Headrush is primarily a looper with delays tacked on, and the MM is a delay with a looper tacked on. But the looper has had a fair bit of thought put into it in the MM anyway The undo function on the Headrush can be excellent though. If you're doing live looping and you've mucked it up enough to need to undo it, chances are everyone has noticed already anyway though
21. Gonna buy a second Schroeder first so I can have a 412 effectively for it. What impedance does the head run at?
22. I can't sing the praises of the MM highly enough. Its fantastic. It would be a double space though, for sure. The looping on it is very intuitive IMO.
23. 10 months? Crikey o_O Thought it was far less. Won't stop me ordering one. Infact, it just gives me another 6 months to save, so I can order it sooner. If you look at it that way
24.
Not that I'm dismissing the validity of the thread, but I'm kinda in agreement with Iwtait. Surely a custom bass is usually as a result of someone who has identified a need for a feature, or combination thereof, on an instrument that they can't obtain from a stock instrument, and so solve the problem with a custom build!
Sure, I see that. Basically, I play sevens. Off the shelf, I don't have many choices. I know some basic things about what I want, though its mostly cosmetic things I'm looking for - I want to see some unusual things, which I may not copy, but simply want to get ideas from The 'important' specs are pretty much all under my belt already (the ones that would determine the size of the neck/how it is to play etc). I've solved a lot of problems with my first seven from Jon already, I'm just looking to expand on the same template and tailor it. The superficial cosmetic things about it are possibly more important, and also some more specific issues. Perhaps I should reword the initial post to make that a little more clear, and give people more of an idea?
I'd say try some fanned frets before you go for the option, The Gallery stock Dingwall so that should be your first port of call! I'm a big fan of birdseye maple fingerboards....so thats my two pence on the spec Regarding electronics, would passive electronics be able to do the low F# justice?
Yeah, I wouldn't drop any money on fanned frets until I know I'd get on with them. The Gallery is somewhere I'd love to visit, its just a complete mission from where I live. If its the only viable place to try the things out though, then it may have to be done! And the electronics - I'd be stringing BEADGCF. No F# involved And I'm pretty much torn between the simplicity (and no batteries!) of passive, and the ACG pre, as I've heard nothing but rave reviews about it, and something with a more flexible EQ than my other Shuker may be quite a neat toy to have! EDIT: First post is now VERY much revised to be a bit more specific
25.
sorry... but why ask us? im guessing if its a custom bass its gonna cost a lot of money, so why not go for your own likes? everyone likes different things.
I think you miss my point. I'm not going to get a bass built on the whims of the BC community. That would be ridiculous, as you have identified. It will be entirely what I want. 100%. I'm doing a lot of research into it, but I just like to see examples of other nice looking things - its easy to miss something you've never thought a possibility before! Inspiration comes from the strangest places, after all.
