1. Thanks Robbie, looking forward to the Hyperpak
2. That's almost double the cost of the original pedal then? With import duty on top of it, that's a bit of a bomb, ain't it. Buh.
3. Can I ask how much that set you back all told (inc delivery, import duty etc) Higgie? PM me about it if you want. I'm really considering something similar.
4. Weell, I'm going to have words with him tomorrow, as he was quite vague today. See if he wants dep or full time. And no, I'm not using a 4 or 5 string for it, shush And I won't have a bad word said against tapping!
5. Hm, you guys are coming to pretty much the same conclusion as me. The last thing I want to do is look a gift horse in the mouth! But the only problem I'm having is that this is going to contend heavily for time with my originals band. Both for learning material, and doing gigs. And with the best will in the world, the originals band is where my loyalty and time lies. I know if I take this up, it'll complicate things, and the other guys in the band will start splitting off into other groups too, which isn't good for us. Buh.
6. That Conklin is a good price, I'd have it if I wasn't already rocking the GTBD-7 - snap this up someone ^_^
7. I'd need to buy a nice suit ¬_¬ Lulz.
8. So we've had a tutor at college for the last few months, who is leaving in about two weeks. As he's leaving, he asked to have a word with me, and he asked if I'd dep for his band. It's a covers band, for functions and that sort of thing, so it won't cross over with my 'proper' band creatively. Basically, I just don't know what to expect from it. I'm 19, and this kind of thing hasn't crossed my mind, so I've no experience of it. So any warnings/encouragements and stuff on the matter? In theory, I'd love to do it, if only for the experience. I have all the gear for it and I'm good enough to learn the repertoire (though I'll hate a lot of it). And of course, I'd love the money But on top of another originals band which is trying to make something of itself, and a full time college course with a lot of work I have to do in my own time, I'm not sure I can do it. Though again, I don't know what to expect from it, including the workload - it might be easily possible. I'm going to have a more indepth chat with him soon (he just mentioned it very offhand and briefly earlier today), but anything you guys say in the meantime is appreciated Just so you know, the guy who asked is Joel White, son of Frank White. Apparently he's semi-famous or something I don't know Toured with Pulp and Finlay Quaye, but more importantly he's a really really good pianist/keyboardist. I'd be worried I wouldn't be up to what he's used to in his world of session musicians! www.joelwhite.co.uk is the guy anyway.
9. I can only hope I know it'll be worth it, and the Conklin is doing a sterling job of preventing me from chewing my arms off in the meantime ^_^
10. Are there ever any bashes up near me in Sheffield? I don't drive, so something that's not too far on the train would be sick Obviously means I wouldn't be coming with an amp in tow or owt!
11. Thanks a lot Darryl, and for finding me on Myspace afterwards The stuff is still there to check out everyone - the EP is free to anyone who wants it too
12. There was some confusion with the way the neck tapers, and the width of the neck on the Conklin that Jon took the measurements from. So while I waited to be able to take my Conklin down to show him (took about 5 seconds for him to go 'Yeh, I see what they've done there' and send me packing again!), it has put the build time back a little Jon was previously saying mid January/early February, but now he says it is more like mid/late February. This waiting thing is tiring Good news is that it should be plain sailing from here on in - there's very little complex stuff to go wrong, and one of the common complaints of Shuker customers (pickups taking ages to be delivered after the rest of the bass is ready) is already sorted as Jon's had the pickup for months now. I'm getting all giddy ^_^
13. Apparently Flea hits a duff note in Around The World. I never spotted it mind, but then I never really looked!
14. Tjere are no batteries - its all running off a 9v adapter, and all the plugs are in properly. I'll have another fiddle sometime and see - board isn't at home so I can't now - I'll have to remain mistified!
15. Okay, thought I may as well chuck this in the ring here. www.myspace.com/thefourthwayband - one bassist, one guitarist, one drummer, currently down one singer, but he sang on the recordings before we booted him. Let me know what you think It was all done very cheap - drum recordings done by a mate (probably the weakest sounding part - very flat and sterile, not enough umph and volume), while the guitar bass and vocals were done in our guitarist's front room through a Line6 guitarport. That's why the guitar sounds a bit thin and digital. I think it gets lost a little. But let me know what you think of the songs at any rate Also, may as well show y'all this. It's a live video from a gig we did last night, sans singer. See what you think, and there's more videos on that account, if you want to explore further http://youtube.com/watch?v=H8d0KNxY6LA Cheers, Chris
16. This happened last practice, and also at a gig last night. When I played a note, there would be slight delay effect on it (nothing majorly bad, but still very annoying). Both my Danelectro delay and my DL4 were off, so it couldn't be them. I also tried taking the Danelectro one out of the chain and it didn't help (would have tried this with the DL4 too, but it was more essential in the gig, and I haven't had a chance to play around since). I changed the lead I was using to connect the end of my pedal chain to my amp, and this worked, but I'm just wondering what could be wrong with a lead to make it to do that? Or is this a problem with my DL4? :/
17. Good man This is the setup I use, and if I were to describe it one word, it would be 'brutal' I think. The thing is LOUD. But also heavy to make up for it o_O Congratulations ^_^
18. I'd love the VFB to be smaller, but I wouldn't want to lose the feedback loop, I think that would lose some appeal for me. I'll make room. I have a big enough board - the problem is just arranging everything so it is accessible. More pedals need the in/outputs on the rear instead of the sides >.< Would have loved your VFB Roady, but just missed out on it. I'm going to try out the OD-20 with blending, but I can imagine the results still won't be what I want, like you say. Kev - thanks The Supercomp doesn't get much use to be honest. I used to use it as a kind of volume boost for tapping before I got the MicroAmp. Doing that, I get a fair bit more noise. I don't really use it anymore, but I keep meaning to give it another go - it's locked in our practice room most of the time, and I just forget at practices! I'll get back to you about it if you want though, need to give it a bit of a fiddle As for the feedback loop... With the VFB, I would want a lot of my pedals in the loop for the feedback, but I wouldn't want to blend the signals of all of them. Is there a way round that?
19. Tom - I'm seriously looking into getting a Barge Concepts VFB-2 for blending, and for the feedback loop, so we'll see how the OD-20 is with it. It's just I'm a bit short of money at the moment - my Shuker is proving to be more of a cash-drain than I thought! If you still want it when I get round to sorting out my board again (whether I love it or hate it, I'm keeping it as it is for the time being), you can certainly have first dibs if I move it on, as you asked! It has a lot of scratches and stuff to it, so I wouldn't say it is perfect condition. But it still has the manual and box, all the knobs and it works perfectly well. Hell, it ain't gonna break, it says Boss on it ¬_¬ tayste - Thanks a lot! You do seem to be one of the 'pedal authorities' round here, so I'll graciously accept the compliment Never heard of the Burkey supply - I'll look into it. Though seeing as everything does work as is, it'd be an afterthought once I've definitely got the pedals and sounds I want nailed down. I'm trying not to look at more pedals at the moment for fear of GAS, but do you have a link to your Mule clip? Cheers
20. Chain is... Wireless Korg DT-10 tuner MXR Supercomp compressor MXR MicroAmp volume boost (for tapping mainly) Boss OD-20 distortion modeller (I don't like this. It could be good if the signal was blended though... I'd still rather just get better distortions as well...) Boss CE-2B chorus (I like this a lot) Boss OC-2 octaver (pretty slick, but I wish I hadn't sold the PS-5 on, the polyphony on that pwned this, though this is pretty characterful) Digitech Whammy IV (best pedal for dumb noises - I know it should be at the beginning of the chain for best tracking, but I love the crappy tracking sound, I don't use it for playing things high, I have a 7 string for that) Ernie Ball 6166 volume pedal Danelectro Wasabi delay (good delay, but in a crappy place on the board) Line 6 DL4 delay/looper (great fun) Powered by a Diago powestation, on a Diago board. Thanks to some of the BC'ers who have contributed to the pedals on the board Taken at a gig tonight. Not really happy with it, and there's always stuff I want to add, but there you go
21. Right, I've finally decided to go with that inlay pattern. Didn't like the 12th fret originally, but it's grown on me Only modifications are that the dots are now under the F string (thanks BigRedX for that - I should have done that from the offset!), and I think I may add a wee yellow Pacman on the 24th instead of a dot. My very understated little homage to Mr Jean Baudin
22. Gutted, the first things I thought when I saw this were "Blimey, Johhny Wishbone will want that Muff, I'll let him know" and "I want a VFB for that price". Turns out he'd already got it, and it was the only other item that had sold >.< Such is life. Have a bump anyway.
23. I'm thinking of something very understated, a bit like this (mocked up on a picture of a Conklin GT7 in Paint very badly ) But I may change the dots out for something else. Wouldn't mind making the one on the 12th fret a little different too. I don't think I'll need the ones below the 12th, as I'll have side markers
24. Another bump I'd consider trades for a different delay pedal, and possibly some kind of blend loop?
25. My concerns about that are that it would probably bump the price up a lot more (bad). And also that I think the fingerboard may already be slotted for the frets, and don't designs like that usually get done before that process? Then again, I wouldn't know - I've never built a bass My thoughts are currently something along the lines of what BigRedX was talking about - simple and understated. Still not decided though!
