My Ernie Ball 6166 volume pedal is prducing large amounts of background noise when it's nearly fully up, like between the 70 and 90% up positions. It's alright when its on full, but it's horrible for volume swells :/ What's the problem? Even if its just some cleaning it needs, I wouldn't know where to clean it :/

Hoorah! At last, work has started Just had word from Jon: facings all sanded up ash body sides planed and sanded to thickness, cut out and routed rosewood board sanded up and slotted It's not terribly exciting really, and there's nothing really exciting to look at - but it means that there's been a start ^_^
-
Well although I already have an EB volume, I intend to keep it as a volume, and have a dedicated pedal just for the PS-5. I'd probably use a second EB pedal if the wallet would stretch! Think if I end up selling one or the other, it'd be the Alesis though
-
It should work as one as well, and I already have an EB volume, so I'll keep that in mind
-
As it happens, there was one of those Alesis ones on eBay going for a song, so I snapped it up. I guess we'll see how good it is when both the PS-5 and the expression pedal itself arrive, which should be over the next 2 days I would imagine

Okay, so I picked up a Boss PS-5, with the intention of using it like a whammy, with an external expression pedal. I was wondering what choices I have for the pedal though. I'm prepared to spend the money to get a decent one, but not MASSIVE amounts - I'll probably go second hand if possible anyway. But yeh, something with a decent travel action, and good durability is really all an expression pedal needs, I think... Any suggestions? Thankyouns ^_^

Been using a bass+amp rig since I started playing. I had a distortion and a wah pedal a while back, but never found a practical live use for them. Recently though, in my new band, I've been using more and more effects, to the point that I sold my GT6B to buy separate pedals. I'm around 50% done with finding everything I want for that now - sucks as I have two gigs this month, which I'll be using a half-filled pedalboard for
-
Don't really have much of a budget in mind - basically as cheap as possible. A few hundred would be ideal really. I'll look into some of these suggestions though And the room may be expensive, but only to kit out with PA and old sofa and stuff... It's only £2 a week more than a 4 hour session in a practice room weekly is, and we'd use it more than 4 hours if we could. We will also probably sublet, so all is well
-
Okay, I need to look into this further Today we decided we would probably get an unpowered mixer and powered monitor speakers... This sound like a good idea? Are any of those peavey speakers powered?
-
Okay, so my apologies if this is the wrong place, but it's ampy/cabby stuff I guess. Anyway, my band is currently using a pay-by-the-hour practice room, and we're fed up of it. We're looking at moving into our own room, but we are presented with the problem of not having a PA, as one was always provided at the old place. We are poor students, so we want to try and get one on the cheap. Preferably a couple of hundred quid or something :/ We'd be happy with a cheap Peavey rig or something, those things seem to be built like tanks. Just a couple of speakers would do, we don't need bass bins and all that stuff. Are there any suggestions? Or heads ups on some good second hand deals? Cheers, Chris

On behalf of my guitarist: Okay, selling a Diago Gigman pedalboard, in perfect condition. only used at band practices. Diago are really good for customer service etc should you have any problems with the case in the future (though it's pretty hard to go wrong, it's a box!). Pictures can be taken on request, but it's exactly the same as any other picture you'll find online. £65 From the Diago website: A Diago Pedal Board is the most convenient way to organise, protect and transport your effects pedals. Diago Pedal Board It combines a lightweight and roadworthy pedal board and hard case, making it ideal for transporting your gear between home, gigs and practices. It makes set-up and take-down quick and easy, and is great for storing your pedals at home, so that they can be neatly hidden away from your wife/mum/significant other. Undo the catches, remove the lid, plug in your guitar, amp and power supply and you're ready to rock and roll. Easy!

I don't think he meant 'throw in', Mike. I think it was just he'll include that all in the price (and a very good price too I think, for what it's going to be!). I'm getting right excited about this now! But there's been very little work done so far. Hoping it's going to kick into gear soon. Don't think it'll be done for Christmas Dood - I looked at your Doodle build page on your site. I'm intrigued by the way Jon cut your neck 'heel'. How does that affect the playability of it? I'm considering getting him to do the same on mine now! Though it wouldn't be quite the same on a doublecut. And how does it affect the thickness of the neck? Ooh, so many ideas

Bit of a late reply o_O Just been down to Jon's before college today and remembered the thread was here! Rich - the scratchplate will be one of the last things that gets added, so I'll be able to see whether I want it or not. The shape of the SR5 plate is very pleasing to my eyes though, so it'll probably get added anyway We shall see. I think I'm also going with both blocks and LEDs now, seeing as I need fret markers (yeah, I suck), and I always think dots are a little 'tacky' maybe. And Jon said he'd throw the LEDs in, so why not Dood - I'm not quite sure what you mean? Is it like a cut away on the tail end of the bass where your right arm would sit or something? My mate Andy has the 6 string version, I could just go and find out what you mean from looking at it, but I'm feeling a little lazy at the moment! I'll probably keep that kind of countouring to a minimum though, and just have it 'nicely curvy'. I would be tempted by the 'belly contour' or whatever it is on the Conklin I have, but I don't think it'll work with the madrone top being attached to the back.

Bit of a feeler. Looking to sell my GT6-B. You all know what these things do Boss' premier tone shaping tool, with a huge amount of prewritten patches, an almost infinite amount of tone customisation with tons of effects and amp modelling. Really useful bit of kit, but I've decided to go along the single pedals route, now that I've found out what I want from using the GT6-B. The unit is in very good condition. I have used it at practices, but only at one gig. The instructions manual actually covers everything, no matter how overwhelming it can seem - if you put the time in to read it and experiment with the unit itself. Supplied with original Boss power supply, as well as a soft case which fits the unit snugly, and provides a place to store other leads/papers etc safely, while slung over one shoulder. Looking for £200. I can try and get some pictures if there's interest. Cheers, Chris

Okay, this is just an urgent thing really I have a Sennheiser Freeport wireless system for my bass, and I lost the antenna/aerial for the transmitter. If I use it now, the unit has a horrible amount of background noise, so it's unusable. I tried using a length of metal threaded to the right size as an aerial, but I have the same problem. The Sennheiser website and contact form is proving to be worse than useless at the moment. So where can I get a replacement aerial cheaply and quickly, and what will actually work? I'm assuming it doesn't need to be a Sennheiser one to work with the Sennheiser unit. Cheers, Chris

Looking to sell my wireless. Really need the money (if you read this Vasquez Rich, you'll know why ) Sennheiser Freeport for guitar/bass. UHF, true diversity receiver. I don't know the exact frequencies off the top of my head, but if you want to know them, I can find out for you. Used it at about 3/4 gigs, and a couple of practices. Always taken good care of it, and everything works fine. Very good condition if I do say so myself. Absolutely no sound quality loss that I have noticed while using it, for those of you that worry All parts included in sale (transmitter, aerial, wireless <-> bass input lead, receiver, 12v power adapter). Looking for £85. Pictures will be hard to obtain as I'm currently without camera, although it will look exactly the same as any picture you pull up on Google. Cheers, Chris

Mike was on Cash In The Attic! Discuss.
-
Volume swells ftw.
-
Good communication throughout. Thoroughly reasonable chap ^_^

You want to keep things like reverb and delay after it, so that it doesn't sound like the sound dies unnaturally when you lower the volume on it. Other than that, I'd keep everything else in front of it. In my experience, at least. Which is limited

Jon's just back off holiday and he's sent me an outline drawing of the bass-to-be. It looks pretty good to me - nothing fancy, but just plain good looking curves Just like a Stingray should be. I'll post the pic when I have a little more time. Might also get a hold of a couple of pics of basses with wooden scratchplates to show y'all, so you can see that it looks cool, and I'm not just being weird about it Edit: Here you go! Okay, this is the rough outline from Jon: And some wooden scratchplate examples (courtesy of the Conklin site mostly): Just to give a better idea I really like them!
