Looking at the completed listings there are some 'good' prices depending on your point of view. It dose seem an unpredictable market.
Aye, I just thought this one was bonkers. Actually, I would say the prices of Corvette Standards seem to be on the up a bit lately, although that could just be down to the fact that there seems to be fewer of them on the market and a lot more Corvette $$s atm.

Both £0.99 NR starts as well, will be interesting to see what he makes. I'm not sure I'd have the guts to do it with something of that value but he's doing well so far.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/WARWICK-CORVETTE-STA...9#ht_1900wt_910 Firstly, it's not a $$ as stated in the title, although that's reasonably obvious. But £999 used? Couldn't you have a new one for that - with change left over? EDIT: obviously not a German made new one, but I don't think that quite explains it... And people say the Warwick market is on the down! Am I genuinely missing something here or is he just trying it on?

The formation of contract via ebay is always an iffy area, but he does state in the listing 'POSTAGE ONLY!!!! NO PICKUP!!!', so you'd probably be said to have agreed to that term by bidding. Possibly.
Because these days ebay attracts a hell of a lot of idiots and if there are any problems you have no recourse or protection if you avoid paypal.

...but it's no different from buying something from Gumtree, an card in a shop window, an ad in your local paper, or any classified ad anywhere....?

That's correct, the principal is the same.
I suppose it's possible that the ebay complaints system is open to abuse if you're not paying by Paypal and are up against an unscrupulous seller/buyer who's willing to commit fraud, ie could claim that you paid with a dud cheque or something like that and it'd essentially by word against word, whereas with Paypal and a posted item you've always got the electronic record of payment and the proof of postage to rely on as evidence. But I've done plenty of transactions cash on collection and never had a problem.
The seller has maybe got mixed up as Lakland is pronounced Lakeland.
Indeed, but that can be a fairly costly type of mistake to make on eBay.
I can't remember them being in fashion any time in the last 10 years. But once upon a time they were everywhere in metal. Shame they were crap, I quite liked the brand.
BC Rich may be out of fashion (and rubbish), but the somewhat more tasteful Bernie Rico Jr. custom stuff seems to be huge in the Djent scene at the moment. Edit: Although Rico Jr isn't actually part of the BC Rich company I think.
Just to turn it on it's head, if the seller was unaware they had a proper vintage fender for sale and it was being sold at a silly (low) price, would you point it out (or buy it quickly)?
Depends if I have the cash spare to snap it up Just kidding. I couldn't spot a proper vintage Fender if I took a DeLorean back to 1960 and was smacked in the face with one

yet another "too good to be true"??
No, there wasn't a Custom Shop in '64 (or at least, there wasn't a Fender 'Custom Shop' brand in '64). OK, the description could be better, but he's relying on those who would be genuinely interested in buying a bass worth in excess of £1500 knowing what they're looking at. He could say more in the listing for sure, I guess he just doesn't really need to for the bass to sell.
True. Or he could just be hoping idiots like me who don't know their stuff are fooled -
He probably wasn't anticipating his listing receiving this level of scrutiny
He obviously doesn't read basschat, or if he does he lurks as a guest and doesn't know that the ebay forum is here. -
yet another "too good to be true"??
Maverick replied to TheGreek's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Genuine what though? Is it supposed to be an original 1964 made custom shop (was there a custom shop in '64? I don't even know) bass or a more modern custom shop 1964 remake-type reliced job? The ad is somewhat ambiguous on that count, unless I'm being a dumb-arse (entirely possible/likely), but seems to want to imply the former without over-committing. If I were selling an original '64 Jazz, my ad would be shouting from the rooftops that it was an original '64 jazz. If I wanted people to think it was a '64 but it wasn't, I'd be wording it more like that. If it's a re-issue, the word re-issue should be used! -

Have finally got around to putting these on ebay, so these are now withdrawn from sale here. If it's okay to post the ebay links here: Bassiq: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...T#ht_718wt_1141 Headrush: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...T#ht_718wt_1141 And as an added bonus, a Boss GEB-7: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...T#ht_718wt_1141
Start a Bass revolution. I'd need a team though. One person to engineer a micro amp that was small/light enough to carry on your back but powerful enough to disturb the peace (and cause serious/deadly hearing injuries) and then a number of people with extended range basses. 6 strings or above an absolute must. Then blow the sh!t out of anyone/everyone who got in the way, with the low notes! Bring it on!!
Or alternatively, just co-opt Lemmy into the revolution, mount Motorhead's touring rig on the back of a truck and have Lemmy play as you drive around, you'd bring the nation to its knees im minutes. -
You simply can't argue with Billy Sheehan on this. We all need to stop obsessing over gear and just play more!
Billy Sheehan telling people to stop obsessing with their gear is fairly ironic, considering all the mods he just had to make to his P bass back in the day, and all the tinkering he still does between models of his signature line today.
IMO the fundamental problem for anyone trying to make a living from (or just get paid for) playing, is that what you do for money other people do as a hobby and are prepared to do it for peanuts. I can't think of many other professions where that is the case (Whoring perhaps?).
Actually, lots of professions take advantage of large numbers of unpaid interns, many of whom don't have a chance of ever making it to paid postions but they all think it's their big chance. That's not exactly a hobby I know, but nor is music a particularly traditional career either, so I think it's fairly analogous. In both cases I think the system is wrong (and moves are afoot to curb the use of unpaid interns at least), but if you don't do it someone else always will.
I'm not having that. I know guys with awesome technique who have have used Ahead sticks from time to time, and have no problems. If you lack technique, you'll suck whatever sticks you use-using Ahead sticks won't help. Anyway, how can a stick help poor players and hinder good ones?
Rejecting any drummer who uses Ahead is very OTT, but I kind of get the point. I'm not a drummer, but I do dabble from time to time and have had a go with Aheads. Their weight and balance mace it very easy for me to play straight and hard, which can made me seem much more consistent than I actually was, but trying to play with any nuance was impossible for me (hey, I can play a few rudiments...). I don't think they'd necessarily hinder good drummers, but I can see how they'd help limited drummers in certain circumstances (ie, Lars Ulrich). I realise they do different models as well, I'm not sure which it was I tried but it's entirely possible they were one of the heavier sets.

Doesn't eBay automatically check for alternate spellings on searches now anyway? Or is that only if you get no results?
