1.
Nah mate, that's a dog.
Well the woofer in the cab works a treat, anyway . The springer on the right is too prone to farting out to be useful for bass.
2.
Also I think there should be a pinned thread that everyone can post a final picture of their creation plus a link to the build diary, just for ease of access? I don't know, maybe the mods can sort something out... if they think that is an okay idea.
What, you mean like this pinned thread about DIY cabs here? If you want a 1x12 for recording/studio space, I can heartily recomend building one of the EV 806 1x12s as mentioned in that DIY cabs thread. I would warn that 18mm birch ply is heavy stuff, so you might want to try it in 12mm and add a little extra cross bracing instead. Here's a pic of my EV606 (the 1x15 version) - the 806 is a scaled down version of that. These are ideal "first build" cabs - a very simple build.
3. OK, just been to have the impressions taken, and my cunning discount scheme worked. I had mine doine through Boots Hearing. If you join their (free) priority club before getting the impressions done, you'll get a discount. So the HF17s I went for (RRP £139) cost me £115. More detail here. I should add that they were a bit puzzled as to why I was a member of the priority club, which is mainly aimed at regular purchasers of hearing aid batteries and the like, but it all went through OK.
4. I am doing this as well. I noticed that the HF15 (from the graph) mainly cover around 10dB rising to 15 at the upper frequencies. I then saw that they do an HF17 "vocalists plug" as well, that is basically 15dB with a couple of bumps up to 17, and looks the flattest response of the lot. It is also a vented design, so apparently reduces occusion. The ER15 in comparison is flat up to around 4Khz then rises to near enough 20dB. I emailed ACS asking about the difference between the HF and ER range. I said I did occasional bvox, and they said either the ER15 or the HF17 would do, but that the HF17 might help address the occlusion. The HF range is cheaper too - £139 RRP as opposed to £165. Incidentally, anyone booking earole appointments just hold fire until tomorrow - I may have found a way of getting a reasonable discount, but I'll let you know if it works after my appointment tomorrow.
5. Steve Lawson? - Behind Every Word & Grace & Gratitude well worth a listen.
6. I've been looking at these. I see the HF15 are in fact mainly 10dB with a rise to 15 at the higher frequencies, whereas the HF17s took a lot flatter in response. WHat made you choose them over the ER15? I know the HF15s come in cheaper than the ER15s - is the same true of the HF17s?
7.
Bad move dude - these are the ones I use and they are absolutely the mutts nuts... They are a bit pricing but the quality of the filters is simply amazing, all the clarity and quality of 'natural' sound - without any of the ear-f***ing frequencies - a very sound investment indeed. M
Why are the ones JohnnyLager linked to a bad move? Are they defective, or is it more a case of "you can't spend to0 much when it's your hearing at stake"? The website you linked to doesn't show pricing, so can you give an idea of their costs?
8. They look good value - certainly compared to the other custom fit ones I've seen.
9.
instead of classic banner my band is using a pull up system. Its easier to transport, set-up and -down after the gig, and always looks decent. Something like on a picture I attached cost about 70-80 quit from local sign maker, and you can change graphic if you'll need. Of course attachment is not my band poster
That printers I linked to on eBay do those pull up ones as well.
10. I got one done by this lot on eBay. VERY cheap, quality is fine for occasional use*, and they turned it around every quickly. They will need a decent res JPEG or vector artwork, so be prepared to spend some time sorting that out too. Here's a snap of it The drum head logo I had done via BH Digital - again, highly recommended. *By that I mean that if you were going to be rolling and unrolling it a lot, or having it up outside, you might want to look at something a bit more substantial, or something that uses a different printing process (these banners use a whacking great inkjet as far as I understand). Only other option is vector cut vinyl stuck to the backing, but you won't get photo stuff on there then.
11. Join the things you do into one made up word: Runkover Rock fUNK cOVER ...And I wouldn't be suprised id www.runkover.com is available, too
12.
I always thought impedance on speakers was merely a guide as it wasn't something they could say absolutley was 8ohms..it is variable. How TC get around this I am not sure...but agree there must be some license in there somewhere.
I would think that it is because TC have ACTUALLY TESTED their speakers as a stack of 3, and therefore know what the impedence curve is. They're therefore happy to recommend using them in this configuration. Other speakers MIGHT be OK, but they've not tested them, so they're not going to go recommending people do it.
13.
This, just because of the treble clef!!
Oh come on - the treble clef looks much more like an ampersand than a bass clef would. It's all music at the end of the day.
14.
Personally I've never had a problem with Royal Mail Standard Parcels.
..except they only ship items up to 2kg overseas.
15. SOLD - to Warren Pearce - so it's reunited with the bass
16. Yes, I would pop it in over there.
17. Yep, saw them a couple of years ago (pre Sgt Pepper) in Cambridge. Sad to say a small crowd, but great gig.
18. ...Thanks for the bump Barnacle Bob - to add to this, I will knock £25 off the GR20 to anyone who buys both that and this guitar.
19. Barnacle Bob's selling a Godin LGX SA guitar, and asked me if I minded him linking to my sale. Of course not! He's also offering £50 off the guitar if someone buys both his guitar and my GR20 - so in similar spirit, I'll offer £25 off the GR20 if someone buys Bob's guitar and my GR20. Richard
20.
Just thought it worth mentioning that I was the buyer of the Godin, and a lovely bass it is too. I'd never have spotted that ding (still struggle!) if Richard hadn't mentioned it! 'being-dropped-3 metres-from-an-aircraft-hold-onto-the-tarmac-below' type packaging too! Warren
21. Now available for £250 inc fully insured shipping. I'll be on holiday next week, but will able to collect email/respond to enquiries.
22. I listed it above at £250 + shipping, but I'll do it at £250 inc. fully insured shipping. EDIT - might be better to use the GR20 thread I set up rather than cluttering this one
23. Saw him playing with Joan Armatrading earlier in the year on her recent tour. Sadly I was sat in a wierd place that gave a massive bass hump to the sound from about bottom A to D, so couldn't really hear his playing very well. Great gig though.
24. Bumplet. Am off on hols again on the 14th for a week - if no interest after then, this will be off to eBay.
