I'd sell. I've cut down to two basses (in the process of selling two others that don't get used - nothing wrong with them, actually they are wonderful, but I've got my favourite two). I've got rid of my effects board and just got a Sansamp Flyrig which fits in a gigbag pocket, and I can now go to rehearsal or a gig with a bass in one hand, the amp (Phil Jones Suitcase. if I need more I take the Phil Jones C8 cab too) in the other hand and I've freed up some cash and space in the house. Simples

The catches are short and pretty bendable soft metal. A push on the offending catch with a screwdriver should bend it enough to be able to open it.

Rickenbacker 4003s/5 bridge and pickguard

I've just put a black pickguard and truss rod cover on my 4003SW-5 to match the black pickups and controls. The white was too much of a contrast. -

Price drop to £375 I bought this a few months ago as a backup for my double bass, but I've never used it and it's just sitting collecting dust. It comes with a Washburn gigbag. From the website: AB45 VSK is the flagship of the AB series basses and it comes with a classic single cutaway shaped body. This is an acoustic electric bass which features the patented Soundslot technology. This dramatically reduces the level of feedback hollow-bodied instruments are notorious for. Piezo pickup is controlled through a set of volume and tone controls installed on the top panel. Back and sides on this bass are made of maple, while the top is made of spruce. Neck is made of maple and it comes with a set-in joint. Fingerboard is made of rosewood with 24 frets and dot position inlays.

I'm keeping the Sunburst one but the red one is for sale at the moment

It is sterile looking (which isn't the idea of a Rick bass in my opinion) but it's such a good bass I can live with it and now it's got black instead of white plastic parts it looks (in my opinion) a whole lot better.

I've only played it at home but it's so far absolutely wonderful. Got the Rickenbacker sound but it can also do 'normal' bass sounds too. I normally only play lightweight basses (I've got two Maruszczyk Jakes - both around the 7lbs/3.15kg weight - one if for sale at the moment to pay for this if anyone is interested) so would normally avoid anything even remotely heavier (this is 9lbs/4kg) but it feels as light as the Jakes (this is the walnut version. I understand the standard ones are a little heavier). When I first saw pictures of this I was disappointed that both the iconic bridge shape had gone as well as the chrome pickup surrounds etc (and the triangular shaped new pickups), but in the flesh it's still a Rickenbacker (but very well made

Sort of knocks on the head the notion that only micro thin layers of nitro paint are needed to let the wood breathe so that you can hear all the natural woodyness of the instrument coming through. I love it

AC/DC - One of my friends was listening to 'If you want blood you've got it' and that was it. My eldest daughter's middle name is Rosie and if we'd have had a boy I'd have fought tooth and nail to call him Angus. Deep Purple - Child in Time on the 'In Rock' album. OMG. Black Sabbath - Heaven and Hell. Was never much of an Ozzy fan, but with Ronnie James Dio................

How does your cover band choose the set list?
6feet7 replied to DoubleOhStephan's topic in General Discussion
We are a 90's function band, so it's whatever gets people up and dancing. Drums (it's his band), guitar (who is also singer) and keys decide. I must say that it keep my life easy. I stick to root notes (which is about as far as my ability takes me anyway unless the song calls for an occasional pentatonic or blues scale thrown in), turn up, play, get paid, go home. -

I find that being the bass player I'm totally ignored, so I gave up suggesting songs years ago and go with what I'm told (even though I usually would never listen to the songs I'm told to play in real life but I'm fine playing them -
I'd go for the nail varnish layered up approach if it were mine.

An absolutely stunning example with matching headstock Maruszczyk Jake 5+ P/MM that is around 7lbs / 3.2Kg in weight, Fitted with passive Delano MC5 HE/M2 and PC5 HE/M2 pickups and comes with a Hiscox hard case. New D'Addario nickel rounds fitted but I can include some used DR Sunbeams if you'd prefer. 18mm string spacing at the bridge If you've ever wanted a lightweight 5 stringer that weighs so little that a 2 or 3 hour set leaves little to no impression on your ageing shoulders, then this is the bass to have

Covers band players. Nail it or close enough?
6feet7 replied to krispn's topic in General Discussion
I'm in a 90's function band playing songs I would never normally listen to (or even want to listen to), so it's dumbed down as far as I'm concerned. We have keys as well as guitar and they do all the fancy stuff and as long as I keep a bass line going along with the drummer then no one seems to notice or care. -

I know, but it's the look. The new 5 stringers have lost something in their conversion to something playable -

I'm keeping my eye out for an old fashioned 5 stringer (not the new ones with triangular pickups) as I can't get that Ricky itch out of my system. The only problem is the price
