1. Rob Wright - IMHO the best P sound there is.

5. Is the scratchplate a standard Fender one for a Pbass? I ask as sometimes Squier ones don't have the holes for the screws in the same place.
6.
I was looking for a replacement pickguard for 5 string Squire Precision - complicated by the fact it has jazz style pickups. There were quite a few places selling them, but I could never establish whether they would fit or not! In the end I postponed the search due to confusion :-)
Squier pickguards are sometimes not the same as Fender ones, from my experience. They usually fit but the holes for the screws might be in a different place.

10. That may vary from person to person. Any time I create artwork or music, I tend to 'see' it in my mind's eye as a structure or pattern - if that makes sense! As I learn by ear, I also tend to 'see' what I'm learning as patterns. If I can't figure that out in a song the bass line doesn't sit in my mind until I figure out the pattern of it.
11. It went to a luthier about 9 months ago - but I suspect he didn't do enough work on it
12. I'll give that a try!

14. Well, there seems to be a smaller, dark space behind the 'X' of the nut, so maybe that's it?
15. What do you mean by an 'open centre'?
16. I'm an artist, so I thought I'd wade in here and see if I can help. The problem is, I can't Despite alot of theorising, absolute definitions are lacking - especially as definitions of art are mutable and changing. What's considered to be art now would not necessarily have had the same title applied to it 100 years ago. That said, the least that can be said of it is that it is a creative process, and in that sense in includes a wide variety of human endeavours. It's just that human beings stratify those process into different values and the perception of these changes over time. This isn't just the case with 'high' art - it applies to music, design, and various other disciplines. Certain sections of society have the power to make definitions, but it's up to the rest of society as to whether they also apply those rules. Alot of the time it does boil down to apparent worth in terms of the response it creates in the percipient, but even that's open to interpretation.
17. Aha - thanks for that! At the moment the rod doesn't seem to like being tightened or loosened, so I wonder if it's okay. I rescued the bass from years of very bad neglect so I wonder if some of that it catching up with it now
18. Yes. The neck has to be removed before I can adjust it as the rod nut has a cross head at the bass of the neck, not an allen key nut.
19. Try as I might, I cannot get the truss rod in my Jazz to tighten. It seems possible to loosen it off a little (although it's not an easy job) but tightening it seems impossible. It hardly budges at all. Does this possibly mean that it's maxed out (and maybe I have to follow the instructions in the relevant thread) or is there some other problem involved? At the moment the neck has too much relief in it, and being a fretless it means that the action is too high and I'm getting marks appearing on the fingerboard. Any help much appreciated!
20. Tom, it's easy enough to order a truss rod key from Peavey. I got one from them last year and they were very helpful.
21. Will try and make it for the Walthamstow gig!
22. Very nice indeed. Shame it's out of my price range!
23. Soundslive are charging even less for the non-humbucker version...!
24. The all-black VM Jaguar Special is very tasty, as is the 'crimson transparent' one...!
