Lol, As soon as I saw the topic title I thought of this, even before I saw you had selected it. I play it all the time as a warm up. It seems great minds think alike

He's the reason I still play the bass now. Probably one of the most underrated bass players of all time. Proper football fan too (before it was fashionable)... even if its Villa. F*ckin' 'ave some geez..
Yeah. I'm the same. I was also into Sabbath long before the Stranglers were formed. Fantastic tone, great bass lines. We really will have to meet up one day, we seem to have lots in common musically. Stranglers, Ruts, Sabbath, etc.

I received a reply to my email , he says he will be sending the book onwards on its journey .

I have emailed an address I found on his page, hopefully he is in good health and will reply, so that we can carry on.

Note there are two cabs behind him as well! Imagine accidentally walking in front of it as Geezer turned it up to 11 and twanged an open E. You would disappear, as your body immediately reverted to its constituent electrons!

We sold our soul for rock 'n ' roll - Black Sabbath.

[sup]Never played one, but they have a somewhat bad reputation, as being badly built junk. (maybe if all you want is to slap & pop it might be ok ?)[/sup] [sup]However if someone who has played one wants to dispute it ?? [/sup] [sup]For my mind I would buy something like one of these.[/sup] [sup]for instance, here are some ebay links: For less than 200 quid you could get a nice secondhand Squier Classic Vibe or one of the Yamaha basses. both would be very suitable for a learner.[/sup]

Is there really any difference in volume between active & passive?
daz replied to xgsjx's topic in General Discussion
I have a Farida PB 18 (passive), and it sounds an order of magnitude louder than any other passive bass i own. No idea why ? So it really does differ from one model to the next, and maybe even one batch to the next ? If i plugged this into my Hartke LH500 and turned everything up to eleven, I think it would literally wake the dead, as well as offing me, in the process, as I play whilst sitting on a stool right in front of the cab I never play louder than '2' when using that bass. . -
It's a placebo IMO
I can assure you if it wasn't, for real my family downstairs would have noticed by now

The very complicated £200 Bass Challenge (with Sound Samples)
daz replied to Sean's topic in Bass Guitars
Why on earth are you willing to take up this mad challenge ? I hope you have set a sufficiently stupid challenge in return for him ? If not, why not! -
My computer fan.
Not sure if I ever learn any. I learn them, write them down and then forget them. The most recent one was Henri Texier's Soweto Sorrow (a year ago?) but I couldn't play it now if my life depended on it. I guess the only lines I learn now are the ones I write for my own compositions. If I don't learn those, nobody will BUt if I write them, I am not learning them, am I? I am writing them....
So the only ones you know by heart are the 'standards'. The rest you do as you say above, or sight read if you need to ?
I spoke to someone vaguely human there once. My sister in law traded on there for years. She had over one thousand positive feedbacks. A month or so ago she sold one of my brother's unwanted Christmas presents to a guy in Leeds. It wasn't particularly valuable, about £30 or so. Anyway the guy that bought it reported it as being faulty and not as advertised. Consequently he got his full money back and sent her the empty box back. The item was perfect. His feedback showed that he'd done the same thing on several occasions. EBay didn't want to know, and wouldn't help her. He even left her negative feedback, totally ruining her trading on there.
That's why when you get a 'send back' insist on opening it in front of the post man, then if its empty get him to sign something saying so. Even better video it on your phone.

I can recommend the EAD to anyone after a cab. They are simply the best I have heard anywhere. If it were not for my currently unemployed status id have bought one myself a long time ago. http://basschat.co.u...d-audio-design/ Dave, who builds them himself and is very knowledgeable about the audio/PA world, is a lovely guy, and will probably arrange an opportunity for you to go and try them if you pm him and ask him. He has a few cabs out there on trial with some regular gigging bands, so maybe one will be near you sometime in the future ? (he himself resides near Chorley in the NW of England)
Well worth a try IMHO.. a mate of mine gave up on 'normal' bass amps for quite a while since he was using only active basses at the time, Yamaha TRB5 IIRC. His sound was most definitely not lacking in anything.. 'Rockin' Mal' is summat of a legend around Bradford!
'Rockin' Mal' eh ?

Who is Scott Henderson and what is this famous video ?
I dunno... I always get confused about the difference between similes and metaphors.
I remember that coming up on the spell checker as I hit a wrong key. Thought i'd clicked on 'smilies' Damn I think im gonna have to get that pair of glasses. There I told you I was getting old.

I remember when I first started thinking about getting a bass. I saw a Bacchus Marcus Miller Bass from Japan on ebay going for £450. If I knew then what I knew now id have snaffled it. Always worried about buying abroad though.

Marcus said that his bass is made from mainly Ash, but several different woods. Millers own one has a Bartollini installed by Roger Sadowsky. So your saying that the Fender made ones don't ?? He plays the UK in May London, UK May 4, 2012 Cheltenham, UK May 5, 2012 Manchester, UK May 6, 2012

Good grief do I have to put f***ing similes all over a page to make people see I'm joking. You bunch of poker arses. For what its worth I probably saw NMA more times than the vast majority of people on this forum. (first saw them at the 1983 Futurama so I suppose its more a comment on my age than theirs)

Anyone want some funky/jazz type backing tracks let me know. Most all have guitar & drums, all have no bass guitar at all, although some have some light keyboards, so you have to find your own space. I have 200mb of them on Mediafire
-
Good grief are they still going ? I remember my Grandad telling me about when they were touted as the next big thing way back in 1926 or whenever it was. Didnt the country go on strike over them or something ? Oh and John Logie Baird invented something, just so that people could see as well as hear them on his new radio vision device. see the worlds first ever broadcasted pic, a little known fact is that this was a picture of New Model army singer Justin Sullivan from the summer of 1926 at the Ally Pally

Packed them into a 200mb rar file uploading it now to mediafire, going to be ready for download about 6.30pm (can only upload at 50k per second)
