3.
You could try making the nut out of ivory. Then ebony and ivory could live together in perfect harmony. ...it's OK, I was just leaving anyway...
You forgot your coat (throws coat out the door)
 4. I may try a layer of ebony on top, if I can a decent thin layer strip of ebony from my old piano key.
 5. two bases is a better option, something like a P and a J. So you can change when the mood takes you. (and it will take you)
 6.
Maybe try clicking the title at the top of the vid so it takes you to youtube? Peace. PWF
that's what I did.

 9.
Why buy? Just ask the butcher for a bone for the dog. We usually get one every Wednesday, He has to pay for them to be disposed off so is glad to get rid of a few.
Indeedy. However i never mentioned buying. But if I send our dog on his own it comes back pre mauled.

 11.
Just to warn you, the bone STINKS when you cut and file it - pooh-ee!! I remember being in Chris Mcintyr's workshop years ago and asking "what's the smell??". Answer, "it's bone mate, I'm making a new nut for this neck".
Yeah i know. that's why i was asking for one already out there. The older it is the dryer it is. The dryer it is the less it stinks!
 12. yeah it stopped halfway on me too.

 15.
Nick Harisson the loner(theme from Budgie) Was listening to this the other day I'd forgotten how much loved this theme and the great bassline what a great bass tone and bassplayer. Anyone want to have a guess who it is on bass?
I just clicked the video and listened to it on my computer. If I didn't already know the theme well, I'd be saying "what bass" as I can hardly hear it on my speakers. best way is to listen on a decent set up or with good headphones, that way the slowly dripping honey, sounds of the bass really come through. The New Avengers theme is also a great one for bass. been wondering what the bass line for that is for quite some time. I tried to replicate it but never get it quite right ? Barney Miller is another famous bass driven TV theme. Unlike the New |Avengers though, that one seems to be all over the internet, so an yone who is vaguely interested to find the music can do so quite easily.
 16. How do you play a french stick ? One nibble at a time maybe ?
 17. your going to get a ton of advice on this, much of it diametrically opposed from each other. All you can do is take what works for you best and use your common sense. Otherwise you will get so frustrated with the conflicting advice, that you might be tempted to give up. hang in there dude. (NB. my younger brother used to call people 'dude' 40 years ago, long before Bill & Ted made it famous. So I claim the right to use it by dint of fraternal succession)
 18.
Drummer...pedigree...fnar...no no no,it's too easy.
That's what I thought
 19.
Another reason for avoiding open strings: You've spent ages learning a tricky piece (incorporating open strings) in F#, then the keyboard player says he can't play it in F# and would you mind playing it in G.
Well I suppose the more advanced players among us, like Doddy can probably do both, without thinking too much about it. (ie: without hesitating) This should be what we all aim for. ie: so we have a choice of either open string or fretting a note, and using whichever is best for the circumstances.
 20. Having smaller hands I just do what Doddy suggests. Try to keep my thumb on the back of the neck and shift up or down a little as and when required. I also think an open string sometimes sounds better than a fretted note, (at least on the A and D) I am of course still a neophyte, in the art of bassage.
 21. they seem to have shut the Forum down. I wonder why ?
 22. Flippin eck Tucker! You should have taken a pic
 23. Addendum to this, the noise has started again I thought it had gone, I now realized it was just considerably quieter than before.
 24. I was having a few 'vibe' troubles from my Farida today, so I did the obvious things first, such as tried to tighten the screws of the pick guard. (a few were loose) Then I thought I'd see how it was with the PG taken off. After I'd done this and the noise had gone away, I wondered if I should leave it off. So I thought I might try it 'Au natural' for a time and see how I liked it. But the screw holes seem to be eyeing me accusingly, so I think I will fill them in. No problem to re drill later if I change my mind. But now we come to the problem. How is the best way to fill them in. They don't actually need to be invisible, just not so easily seen from afar. Can anyone help with any tips ? pic below. (notice the depth of the shine captures my cameras reflection )
 25.
When I hear an Alembic, I'm being seduced by the tone.
Maybe you are, but you have to play it to hear it.
