1. Great to see (and hear) Bruce Conte from TOP
 2.
I tried all variables, so now unfortunately its off back to be checked out.
My 2eq developed a similar bad buzz. Got the bass gallery to screen the pick up and control routing. Now quieter than my 3 eq.
 3.
Cool I will get one started soon then and there's nothing wrong with having 2 black ones that's just twice as good as having one
I will add my '78 natural when you're ready
 4.
Played bass for 6 years then had to sell my guitars due to some stuff coming up. I was asked to take it back up again so I jumped back on it and brought another bass, the bands been goin for 7 months now n its goin well. I seem to have picked it back up easy enough after 2 years out.. One thing I cant and have never been able to get my head round is slap bass? Ive been practicing techniques on the net but I cant get my head round it. Any tips or hints?
Get yourself a copy of Slap It. Great book !! By the end, you will be a master. 5.
I've been playing around with various basses for a long time, a few months back I found my Sandberg JJ5 and I can honestly say, every bass I've heard since just doesn't quite have the same feel about it, so fat and punchy. It's exactly what I want from a bass tone. Couple it up with my GK rig and I honestly think I couldn't improve on it to my ears. So to the question, I've been keeping my ears open with what to use as a backup, my beloved Thumb (now moved on) didn't quite cut the mustard any more, I traded that for a Dingwall and although that sounds brilliant, I find it doesn't have the same depth and fatness as my JJ5. I've toyed with the idea of a SUB5 or L2500 (or even a Ray5) for the fatness, but am I just wasting my time when they're playing backup to a Jazz? Am I going on a goose chase to try and find a different tone I like or should I find a proper backup? Worth noting that backup is just an excuse to fulfill GAS, though I do need a spare bass of some description. So do you guys have a main player and a similar backup? Or do you have a few basses that you like for their own merits and they don't really resemble each other? Or have you found one particular type of bass that makes your ears orgasm and you've got different models/brands of the same style bass?
Main bass = stingray. Back up = another stingray. Only take 1 bass to gigs as they're mega reliable
 6.
Definitely maple with a wenge fingerboard. I love the color! How do you know most of the weight is the neck?
That's the way it feels. Fingerboard is almost 1cm thick. Sounds great though. Need to use it more.
 7. Its maple apparently. Emailed serial no. Gibson. Most of the weight is the neck.
 8. Yep, got a 1997 killer B 5. Great bass. Superb construction. Seriously heavy.
 9. The cause of the weak G is the large size of the pick up magnets. Lower E side and raise G side of pick up. Use 45 guage on G and 100 on E If you have a 3eq ray, boost mid Thats it
 10. Got an 1987 owned since new. One of the first 3eq. Check basses on a settee thread for photos. Great bass. Very light. Nice colour. Doesn't have birds eye neck though. Good period from EB. But best would be late 80s early 90s with truss wheel IMO. Best innovation from EB
 11. Hi, what is the difference in sound between ceramic and alnico pick ups in a stingray 5 ? When did EB change to ceramic then back to alnico ? Cheers
 12. Tascam CD BT1, + power supply + manual. Bass Input jack is broken. Need to be replaced. Any offers ?
 13.
As it says in the title fellas, superb songwriter, with this very tasty band, can be seen this coming Thursday 27th Jan at the Elgin in Notting Hill details to be found here Would be nice to see a few basschatters out.
Cheers Might check it out, seeing as I live 2 minutes away.
 14.
I saw them around this time as well, in the Queen Margaret union at Glasgow University, and can confirm your perception :-) Brilliant entertainers, "other worldly", yet earthy at the same time. Brilliant. I don't understand the criticism of Flea either, I think he is a fantastic musician. Jennifer
Was at the same gig. Jan 1990 I think. They had a guy on trumpet for a few numbers. Remember Antony doing hand stands on stage during solos. Meet them in a pub off Ashton lane pre-gig by accident.
 15.
Update. I have already had a great deal of interest in the bass. Astonishingly, I have had 2 offers from overseas buyers at £700+P&P. I would rather not send the bass overseas, but I won't be able to turn down those offers unless I can find a UK buyer willing to pay £700. I will be updating the listing to reflect the change in my asking price. Please accept my apologies if you have been inconvenienced by this.
Hi, where are you in the UK ?

 18.
Um, hello, this is hard for me to really get across well. I'm 15 and reliseing that playing bass is really what I want to do in life. I've been playing for less than three years but I'm like above grade 6 standard, I read sheet music (three days locked in my room), I'm playing in a band (how many 15 year old boys don't?), I'm playing in a jazz band (accredited by local big boys as the best ever school band they have heard), I'm playing scores for big bands and in a school production of Bugsy Malone and taking as many chance as I possibly can (which ain't many in rural Norfolk ). Oh I'm also taking theory lessons and DB lessons. (Blowing my own trumpet, described as 'highly gifted' and the 'best bass student I've taught') So anyway, it's really frustraiting 'cause I see all this insane bas players, more than a few of them preside on this here sight, and I go to myself how do they get there, I woodshed day in day out I listen to whatever the hell I can lay my hands on... So yeh, what I'm trying to say is that I want your help. I want to know where you learnt stuff like how to play over chord changes, how to construct walking bass lines, what to listen to and how to survive in the music industry. (Also if you live/have knoledge of the Norwich/South Norfolk music scene where I could get gigs or go see decent jazz stuff etc.) I know I'm over stepping the line putting all this stuff up here and expecting you to reply, but I'm coming through in the generation of tab and eighth notes, not transcribing and quavers, so please help, cause I want to be part of the future of bass and I don't want that future to be bland, dire infact, because so many other elements of music nowadays are. Thanks.
Get a life dude Mods : close this thread. Its deadly dull
 19.
RE The Glasgow gig - was it the "Blue Matter" tour ? - if so a drummer friend of mine saw that very same gig. Was amazed to see DC's roadie put an ANVIL inside his bass drum to stop it from moving. You couldn't make it up.......
Yep, back in '88. Looking at the vid, it appears Gary has a ramp on his bass. The vid is about 20 years old. Must have been one of the first
 20.
Hi all, I've only been playing bass for a few months now. I use a second hand Wesley bass I use but it's been a great help for learning. I've been watching a lot of bass covers on youtube.. mainly funk/ jazz based music. I love that type of sound but what's driving me nuts is that I cannot reproduce that bright funky tone on my own bass.. even with the new swing strings I bought. Don't get me wrong.. they are A LOT better than the ones I got with the bass but the tone seems a bit 'muddy' compared to the ones on the youtube vids . I currently have Rotosound 40 60 80 100 roundwound Swing Strings. Apart from buying a new bass.. I would just like to know how I can alter the sound. I've put the tone up full, but no joy. Do I need different strings.. Elixir, Ernie Ball Super Slinkys, blah blah. What about Jazz pickups? Will that alter the sound by much. Any help is much appreciated!! Buy a stingray dude. Problem solved Paul.
21. Likewise so John scofield in Glasgow with those dudes. DC I have seen about 20 times, playing with John mclaughin, mike stern, etc, etc. He is the man
 22.
Disco 2000 - Pulp
There can only be one..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwgwVhmRprY
 23.
Love it - Who is that on bass? I should add that I'm watching this on iPhone and the vid is very blurry, lol. I thought it was Stanley Clarke on the original album but that doesn't sound like him to me (and I've never seen Stan the Man on a P?).
It is the godlike genius of Byron Miller. Sideman with Roy Ayers, Herbie Hancock and George Duke for decades
 24. Cheers for this. Been curious about differences between pre-EB and EB 2EQ as considering selling my '78 to buy a 2EQ EB ray to get lighter body and trussrod wheel
