Well he must be able to groove and play AND be flash if hes done over 6000 gigs!
-
Ive seen still shots of him on the upright looking away, might be because he was not used to the change of scale between instruments.?

Nice guy too. -
From the short time Ive had the upright, note placement, you cant just rake and beat and thump and hash your way through the tune....
Its the 1st instrument to teach me the importance of clarity. -
We should have guessed. I bet you're a closet John Denver fan, too.
Jim Reeves and Conway Twitty...
That Denver boy needs a haircut and some manners! -
Maybe...I should have inserted a smiley....
I'll get back to my Horlicks and Val Doonican.....Wheres my Arran sweater.... -
I think you are talking about fitting into a sonic pocket.....And it can take a lifetime to find it...
Think how Jamerson had it,he came from the upright players perspective, where you HAD to make the instrument work....you were the volume..you were the tone, and there was no hiding the fact....
I feel I would have rather learnt the Bass that way! -
Its a question of fashion, and do you really give a toss what people think you should look like.
What constitutes a 'Fully grown man' kiddo? -
Couple of points - if you go for the 2 pup, 2 output way, do you trust the average soundman to reproduce both signals properly and blend them well?
In normal(ish) tunings, you might want to back off the distortion a tiny bit to get a fuller sound and maybe use a level boost during guitar solos?
Its going to take a long convo with our soundman, but he seems capable.....
If I was going back to regular tuning,in covers and functions work,I'd probably just run the instrument like a normal P. I had a natter to Jim earlier about it too. -
No it isnt.
-
Im there fella,Im doing that..Ive been in 1 guitar bands both in functions and originals for on/off 15 years. Im up against a classic Marshall/Metalzone and Gibson player....Its route one,and I was brought up with the problem as a kid,How to fill...Im doing the job fairly well, but I feel theres more, and I could be doing more.
I dont scoop mids,I rev them, its just extra Bass, without mud..Everythings pretty ok when both of us are playing,Im trying to dish out as much during solos.
I dont want the 'Pantera' problem....using a clean Bass sound, under a solo, and watch the heavy leave the room,Im trying to Motorhead things without just being one colour.
Is that an understandable explanation? -
So in effect..the 'Willpower' might be a better idea...as it matches a Fenders string spacing?
-
No, it was a Dimarzio. They're black but I took the paint off with paint stripper...it's the model that doesn't line up with the string spacing.
Does that affect tone or output or anything?? -
Is that a Gibbo Fartbucker?? Looks silver.......
Anyone got a wiring diagram for the Attitude mkI or II???
Anyone play one...? What does what to what...lotta switches and stuff there!!! -
Ha! Well, the boundaries of bass have to be pushed....36 frets? yeah, you may aswell chuck one in then
You got any pics of the Modded Bass Jase?? -
Thing is,the wannabe guitarist tag....If you actually know anything about Sheehan, you know thats totally untrue!
-
No the 6 is headless....
Jase, theres No more room its got 36 frets already!! -
Leave the bass and get a preamp. You'll get more useable tones out of a Sadowky preamp, for instance.
What will that give me...Ive never tried one??.
Well Im running quite a dirty signal from The Tech 21 stack, and its ok,but sometimes a feel I need a..or a little...clean in there..Ive toyed with 8 string ideas, but in the low tuning its a silly idea. But Im trying to fill the room....
I worry for the sake of it,but this isnt GAS I swear, its about trying to do my job,and doing it better than the last or next guy (or girl). -
What happened to the 9?
Its in the corner...still gets played, gonna write a few tunes for it in the next few months with ICON...Scott insists...Ive a feeling Im gonna write a ballad on it.
ICON wrote their lp and recorded it before I joined, the bassist quit after finishing his lines, and Ive come onboard..so its the next summer or 2 in drop C...and writing for the next lp (Ive retuned, and turned the geetar to drop A..and shown him the wonders of upgraded pickups) using the 6 and 9. But for whats written and what we are performing live, its silly to use more than a 4.
Songwise Ive rewritten a good amount of the parts, they kinda were lazy and more guitar rather than drums, and theres a lot of melody that could be used, that isnt..and the drummers admitted that he has always followed the guitarist in any bands he's been in,in his own words Im the first fingerstyle Bassist he could actually hear...seeing as there are not many 'Bassplayers' out there, and Bass as Bass and drums in a ryth section in Metal as a genre is pretty much dead...(there are an awful lot of BAD metal Bassholders) its a learning curve for all of us.
But I do get a solo.... -
Funny you should ask....I did at one point get Dave Dearnley to scallop the last 3 or 4 frets but it was on my "testing or prototype" bass a Charvel Model 3b, he also replaced the rosewood board for a maple one....I never really used them though. On my Fender I didn't have the scallops.
Is there any actual advantage to doing that though?? -
Bi amping might be the way! Combo for the dirt -- 1x15 for the clean
Trying another pedal could be the answer.... -
I've got a model 1 if you want me to check string spacing! In the early 80's I once put one in an old P bass copy in the bridge postion to make a "poor man's Stingray" - being flush with the body it was rather too low, but sounded pretty good.
please!
You up for selling it??
Just looks like a pair of egos to me.
S'pose I put a NOFX vid on...and said it was 4 talentless c**ts,that are 'Packaged rebellion'....Could you discern the absurdity of both statements...?
I love it when people decry anything where education or hard experience makes it unique.
You might not want to do it,Billy's style of play, but its different,it challenges convention....it still provokes divide and opinion 25..near 30 years after he first came to light upon music....
Isnt that a far far more...a greater musical and social statement...isnt it a darned sight more 'punk' than another syncopated mechanically created 'modern' ska band?
