There is no such thing as "The Best".
There is,but its for the individual, and some people don't want to realise that. Basically its this, you want summat better* than off the peg,you go custom... If you don't like fancy woods, than there's this thing called paint, that can be applied for a small extra cost,as in my opinion, wood does not affect tone to any real life changing degree,it was an option I waived,I chose the woods for my instruments, because I WANTED TOO,boo-hoo if you don't like that.....I like the look of wood,I hope this upsets some of you. I still think its a little weird that you spend oodles of wedge on a custom instrument and people still buy a Maple/Alder bodied...bolt neck with a Rose wood/Maple neck,But then its not my Bass thats being designed, and its not me that has to play it...so in a short answer to my own question,I shouldn't really give a f***. *Again debatable?...what IS better....Moon on a stick me,always was, always will.

Basically the filmakers dont want you to look like a joke or piss them off.....The day of recording will be boring, and you will hate the 'take' they use... the rest is up to them...sorry,enjoy,Ive the same sh*t to deal with this summers end...

Ok.... Read pretty much all the previous, and enjoyed some, though not all..... If Leo got it soooooo right, why is there a massive replacement parts industry for Fender/EBMM...basically Leo/Leo's company's designed/made Instruments. WHY have I had to rip out the P/U,change the nut, replace the jack, scratchplate etc etc to make the instrument tolerable (I didnt have a ton of money when I got it in 01...I traded 2 instruments and a wad of cash for it). The 96 P that sits, not 12 inches from my right hand essentially PAID for my house downpayment and morgage and bills and transport for the last 5 years....Its been through a court case, been dinged, dropped, thrown about...Ive had the frets stoned 3 times Its also f***ed my spine and neck up,ok being a raging headbanger has not helped, but this has been the sheer fact that on 80% of my gigs that Ive got paid for,Ive played this Bass, and Ive played this Bass in many many different styles of music over that..Disco to Metal,Soul to Modrock....Its done it all. Why did I use it and still, try to,retire it?? The answer is simple,Its RELIABLE.....It always sounded good, the Sound guys loved it,it fitted into whichever gigs image I was doing...weddings to Death Metal,Pub gigs to corp shows for Pilots and charity freebies... Thats the key to Fender over the years, they are RELIABLE..I dont want to argue about year x or part y (Though I still think the S1 switch was the silliest thing to put on a P,and I just dont feel confident about 3 bolt plates)..THEY ARE RELIABLE,horrid over weighty, ergonomically grim, old hat...underfretted,passive toned...4 stringed....f*** off RELIABLE. And thats why they are still being bought, and will always be bought,I couldnt give a sh*t who 'owns' Fender now,I dont buy Fenders for the years or the image,I bought it because I knew IT WOULD WORK,Ive the one I love and I dont want to change it..If you dont like them,as I try not to,buy an Ibby or a Warwick or whatever fashion is dictating you should buy...or Mod it to hell and back..the parts are there, and have been for the last 30+ years.BUT DONT slag off summat that works,Slag the players,Slag the styles they play, the whole 'Rob Trujillo Plays a Fender..' Shocker a few months back...utter bollocks, its a f***ing instrument, some bods playing it,big whoop, christ GET OVER IT.....If it works for him/her/you..and you are happy.thats all that matters. Only until I bought a Yammie 6 did I feel like 'It felt safe to stay in its case' because I had a 3 bnd active eq,less or a more balanced weight, and 2 more strings, and more frets.....Ive since gone Headless, but I wont slate a Bass thats put me a ton of cash into my pocket for whole lot less bother than anything else onstage.
He's had more practice playing with a pie in each hand than I have. Anyway, while it's a clever party piece, it still sounds bad.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fD9X9QGBYLY...feature=related Summat root notey, and structured for the anti-standouts. No doubt you and the many will moan about the start as Stu plays something fun, along with Satch. These guys leave trad minded pondlife in the dust, considering Stuart lost a ton of weight in the 90s 'Fat' Stu jokes are really really passe.... And look close,NO ryth player..thats the strength of The Hamm-ster.

How important is theory and reading to you??
And the less you know, or admit to knowing then the more credability yoy have, it's crazy. I do a lot of work in schools for Warwickshire county council, they have very fine and well equiped music departments. The kids are taught to read, and are taught theory through the grading system, so hopefully attitudes might change in the future.
very +1 Kev, its swinging that way now...god I wish I had that educational attitude to guitar from the authorities when i was young. -
WOW..Old and large Stuart Hamm, this reminds me of being 14 again, him working with Satriani...Big hair and super solos ala Sheehan. Show some respect. He's a good player, both as a soloist and as a backing guy.
So the 9 string is the reverse of how I got my other basses. Before, the music I was actually playing dictated the bass. Now, I only have a concept of what things might sound like and I now have to prove to myself that I can turn concept into music that makes me smile.
Yep...Same here,kinda...hmmmm....How far out can I go.... Freaks the sh*t out of people when you strap it on at a gig by the way....
I think there's a lot of wisdom in that approach. Using one instrument helps develop muscle memory and I've found that also allows me to think less about adjusting to the instrument and more about choosing how to play it. I just need one that can cover a wide number of basses.
Buy a Fleeting bass,it worked for me.

I hope all venues shut down and music dies....* *Conform, consume, obey.
An oxymoron surely?
You cant sell out,if you dont care.

Hmmm Ive gone the other way regarding GAS and gear...I just want one instrument to create MY sound,Ive tried, making different sounds for different bands, and found it....for me..a waste of time..I learnt that ,to change sounds to fit, didnt work..its to...to...its chasing,I dont want to do everything, its fake, and a lie....SO I did summat mad I just made my sound, and that was it,if a band didnt like it,thats fine, hire the next guy,it sure isolated me,but when I found the bands that wanted me,and my sound,we played the house down....It didnt fit some situations, and was not ment to,but when it did,it slays... SO many are fad followers, this 'thing' does this....this box will give you that..its bull, the rule on gear is simple...Buy quality, buy once, buy crap, buy twice. I know there's slings and arrows on here over Warwick,or Fender or whoever....or 4 vs any number of strings.......brands,woods,nut materials..outboard gear, whatever, its all sh*t....to discuss, though fun,is a waste, unless you plug it in and go yea or nay..its just wasted air and stress. Buy what works for you,and be happy. EDIT* I dont even visit shops for instruments anymore.

He comes from round the corner from me (he used to live in Edmonton - I was born and bred in Tottenham).
So that makes you a...... (John Lyall RIP)

How much of a problem is this for you? Are you losing money or work because of it?
