1. LOVING THAT FINGERBOARD!!!!
2. AJ's always been a 'bit large' for the last 20 years,It probably did him a world of good..Stevie Wonder's had to do the same!
3. Stax...Any Duck Dunn.on an Otis Redding track...total pocket perfection.
4. Was he not really ill recently?
5.
Johngh What is the headless one on furthest one on the left? I remember seeing a headless years ago it was a dark grey high gloss finish body just like that one, but was in a kevlar gray it had the most amazing fretboard (almost like a tumbled stone feel) i think it was ebony & it was almost sexual to play. I never knew the make but it was price at £1100 & i lusted after it for months, eventually it got sold & i was gutted. Always wondered what it was......
Was it on display under a glass cabinet in Scheerer's?
6.
The only thing that has so far put me off the headlesses that are out there, is so far I have only found skinny Jazz style necks, which sadly I dont get on with (hence I sold the Hohner to WD) .... anyone do a 4 string with 17+mm spaging at the bridge and 9mm spacing at the zero fret and I'll have one, why....? They are just so bl88dy easy to play .....
2 words...JIM FLEETING
7. Whats so 'nightmare' about it? Its summat you like, its summat you want.....
8.
I agree. Pointless. But not on a Jazz.
But DONT ever say "It makes it sound like a P-Bass"...Coz it does NOT!
9.
Don't start on S1 switches Ross! I'll defend them to the death!
On a P-Bass....why?
10.
Headless? But whats gonna stop your hand flying off the end of the neck?
Your arm
11. The idea reeks of 'S-1' switches and fingerboard woods affecting tone.... A rush job is a rush job,a true craftsman wont rush...hell Mike Tobias wont set up an instrument after he's strung it for at least 24 hours, speedy string changes are impressive enough, but a sprint job and your bass is 'Magically' perfect sounds like Yankee bullshit corner cutting to me. And dont necks shift over time..season to season? Renders the whole thing pointless.
12. (Sigh)....a job over complicated by technology, setup and stoneing...been done for years....all thats really needed...like Buzz feiten (Or whatever its called)..The audience dosent notice the difference,I doubt most musos would notice the difference.
13. Lotta Headless instruments on the 'Build' threads lately...and the porn threads too. I know some people deplore them, but Ive a feeling that trends are going to come back around...any arguements?
14.
A few extra notes, bad back and a sore wrist?
Ahh...So you have not played any then...
15.
Yes they do, hordes of pros. Fives may outnumber fours but fours way outnumber everything else. Pros do it for the money so you take what gets you paid! Sometimes I wonder if we're on the same planet... Alex
(tongue is lodged FIRMLEY in cheek) I love fishing.... Ive an upright,a P-Bass...fretless Ibanez Musician 4 string....I make money playing. Take your pick and do you think I REALLY mean the above!
16. +1 on Ash for me,its not Maple..or Basswood...Is it heavy?...looks typical 70s Ashwood to me
17. Its what you need vs what you like...and then cross that by what you are prepared to pay....I like a good ol P like the rest of us,I keep one for boring Bass owners to touch, but Old stuff isnt always built well, and usually dosent like an aggressive touch. But nobody in a correct, professional, versatile, state of mind takes a 4 string bass to gig, where they know that a 5/6/7 will offer AND deliver so much more
18. The 'Best' basses are made by Jim Fleeting in Ripon, thats not subjective opinion, its pure fact..the others are just amateurs trying.
19. Given his absolute focus for perfection, innovation, and sheer refusal to accept constraints and limitations, and lets face it,the 6 string Bass guitar IS the standard instrument for pros these days.......AJ's amazing. And thats not opinion, thats fact.
20. I like this number http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=I4xKlbeHLf4 classic
21. Wheres work taking you..trust me,Ive met mates that have been to jam nights in UlaanBaatar....Lima..Anchorage..you name it,people play music EVERYWHERE..They even have 'Musical' nights on that Antarctic US base, whwere anything goes..get a cheesy Hohner headless and pack it with you when you go off, unbolt the neck, bung it in the bag along with your pants and socks, and hey presto!! No excuse, join a band.
