Shape of my heart can be played on a 4 string with barely any tapping anyway.
Hows the work progressing on the 9 dude?
SERIOUSLY need it for an audition....(Else Im going to have to use a fretless 5) The electronics (Bartolini 3 bnd eq) and the Hipshot....(did I mention the hipshot, its for the F sharp so I can go sub E....Yes THATS LOW FOLKS) Are trapped in a sorting office In Liverpool (They are still on strike) SO Jims ramming a 2 bnd hes got in as a quickie and leaving it unfinished until the bits turn up...so no coil tapping or oil finish or 3 bnd eq or drop tuning...And Somewhere on gods earth are my Gotoh machine heads in silver,we cleared them out....Pickups made as is the cover.... Heres a VERY old unfinished piccy Things have since been bevelled, routed and stuff.... Big,Hard, and clever.....
+1 You've got nothing to gain by not doing it and you'll probably regret it - I always say establish the blame as early as possible, so let your mate know he's let you down and then if you play well you'll look amazing and if you play badly you can say it's his fault
I would say nothing at all..and should the house fall abound..rather akin to Sampson..then fix you eyes upon the man,and the blame shall follow your view.
Play the easiest 3 you've run through, refuse to play the other 3 and insist on playing Rawhide, Stand By Your Man and I Walk the Line. If he argues, remind him the rugby is on and that's a game played by gentlemen, and a gentleman wouldn't have treated you the way that he's treated you. Hamster
Union? A Mans game... Sir I would have a good few thousand good men, women, and childfolk that easily batter you into submission just a few feet from my door that would argue the LEAGUES case over that upperclass fantasy creation of romanticism..... (Seriously my house backs onto a Superleague stadium...Castleford Tigers to be precise! And I for one will miss it so whence the new facility is created across town)

Do you read? Can you make a rough set of charts (IN BLACK INK!!) If so do the gig, you'll get major kudos, and the word will spread. Just follow the dots. If it goes sh*tty, you can point the finger.

Ive done it...and to be frank its totally pointless, get a 5 and work at it. The contra tuning of a 4 makes it not as versatile(therefore and read as limited) as an instrument and just highlights how much you will miss the G string,Im pretty sure your 4 will be a 34" scale so the 'B' wont sound as good as a 35" scale 5 string. Getting good at a 5 or 6 will give you more opportunities available as a musician,to cover more work, and earn more money. You wont be playing that style of music forever or always covering such tunes, and getting used to a 5 is just a good idea really. Just keep at it (Think of me in the next month copeing on a 9!!)

The day I discovered The SansAmp by Tech 21. I wont willingly use ANY other rig.....I like a bit of dirt.

Mum and Dad bought me 3 c's Curtains,Carpet, and a Cooker. (and they Cut down a tree...)

I wouldnt have even bothered to reply,f***wits like him/her...it ( ? ) are overeducatedshitheads* Boasting about G13/9 sharp chords,I mean really......You can learn about that on the back of a Cornflakes box (*Its a Zappa quote)

I USED TO DO THAT FINGERSTYLE...... Crank up the Ibanez Distortion pedal, new strings.....sorry but I am NOT impressed.

I would label your lecturer a 'Twat',for judging you on your gear choice and style of play. Tell him to use his ears...its what hes paid for...
My first "big" amp was a Trace 1110 that belonged to "Rock Bitch", the infamous all-girl band. That had been heavily gigged (and more besides, doubtless) The internal foam wadding looked like a smoker's lungs! I took it out (bleugh!) and replaced it. Maybe I should just have shoved a Magic Tree in through the port slot and prayed...
When was that? The Bassist had a headless german fretless and a Trace rig (I think) back in 02....when I saw them. Naff band, and they aint even that fit!

What 1 question to any bass player would you ask?
yves carbone -"what on earth do you think you're doing ???!!!!"
Could you elaborate on that...... -
Alex, your guitarist is an utter twat.
Welllllll.....Those that post dont, those that dont post do! (I agree though, where else can I ask a question about string guages,or bridge parts,or where to obtain and purchase score 24/7....all year round?...Guitarplayers are notorius ignorant knobheads)

Been a singer since I was 4,always had good pitch. Having a good ear for harmony helps with creating Basslines.

130. nowt lower..... you WILL have to adjust your plucking technique, its a phat and fat string, takes a lot more effort to move such a thing,in the end its practise...but you will get rattles, and you will gain strength to compensate. keep at it.
Like what, which 5 did you try and where?
Im not a mega fan of the necks but top end Ibanez's are nice with decent pickups and electronics in them,Im not a fan of Warwicks, except the Dolphin, and some of the delux Fender 5s are nice (but I still dont think Fender as a company have cracked the 5 string sound yet) Hense this G&L (In Doncaster btw). It felt like a 5 should and it fought back and its tone was consistant all over, not Jazzy or compressed,or player friendly nicey nice....dont offend the neighbours type of soft fusion.....it was BIG UGLY and wanted a fight and would kill your granny to get you to part with your wallet.* (*ARGHspeak=Sounded like a P-Bass and not a girly Jazz...yeah I said GIRLY!!!Well it MADE me say that!) I think my 5 string fretless sounds the best, aggro, gnarly, torn up fingerboard tone and it cuts through a rockband situation.....EMG P/U and 18v circuit y'see...fleabay buy for £200,cant go wrong. Generally speaking ,for me,I like no lines, and active system on fretless, and you should hurl yourself into playing it,do the entire 1st set on fretless,oh and Roundwounds, with a touch of chorus from Boss.
The great thing about David Jay's bass playing with Bauhaus is half the time you don't realise it's fretless until you hear the occasional slides he puts in.
Sorry ,but best David J track for me is 'Shes in parties' ......great intro, the BBC session version is the best.
Generally find anything short of balls-out rock, and especially balllads/acoustic numbers, works better on fretless so long as you keep it subtle.
I dunno,If you wanna hear fretless in Death metal you cant go far wrong with 'Individual thought patterns' by Death. Steve D's work with Sadus is hot too.
Like a Warwick. I find them a bit chunky although others obviously love em.
Agreed,Ive tried a 5,which was nice, and very hefty, which is a tonal pluspoint with me,but I prefered the 2nd hand G&L that was in the corner (still the only 5 string that FELT like it was a 5 string in my hands). nice finishes..... But I do think there is better out there.

If Im bored I play fretless, its fun. playing Iron maiden tunes on fretless is a challenge.

Never had the thought of doing that.......! Let alone courage to..... Saying that Ive swapped a few lines with Yves Carbonne and GBC in my time so..I might try that thanks... (Dear Phil....Whats the opening chord to.....)
And.... is there a questing in there? I love that album. Its my 'sitting on a train on a rainy day' album G
Im trying to find the score, either to buy or to copy....the question is in the thread. Ive rooted about amazon, and cant find the score anywhere. Bach stuffs pretty easy to find, but I really like Glass's work.

Im trying to transcribe, solo piano pieces to 4 string Bass guitar..and Im having a few issues re chord choice (trying to get the right tonalitys within chord choices) and its hard given the limited choice available on a 4 string instrument....and the inherent sonic limitations that it has. Anyway Im doing this by ear,and Im trying to 'do' the 'Metamorphosis' pieces by Philip Glass....
