I think you are mad for wanting a GK NiceGuyHomer.... Bar the little briefcase combo thing they do (Which sounded lovely and I would have no arguements buying) Ive played a quantity of what else they have and come to the conclusion that its utter toss. But I have to agree here,you have done the right thing! The 'We cant get it' is often a ruse for 'We cant be bothered because its a hassle....' But saying that its often true. (COUGH.....STATUS...Cough..)

The best way to learn how to cope with drop tunings,is to just play. I use 110-50 tuned to standard E,so dropping isnt a supertough problem for me (Ive dropped C for a tune or two onstage) But in the past Ive bought a 5 string set and tuned upward to D (ditching the G string) so we are talking 130-60. it was tonally a bit to bassy for me at the time,but given hindsight I would do that again. Any drastic change to a Bass,such as heavier/lighter sets of strings,and/or tuning changes,might call for an adjustment in setup of your whole instrument,not just a trussrod tweak.

My regret is a (what I found out years later) Satillite P-Bass copy It was an Ash bodied through neck,weighed a ton,and naffed my back up for life,mapleneck and fingerboard,brass nut,and gold lespaul style volume and tone controls...Dark stain,20 frets,PHAT bridge saddles and Schaller style machineheads,it sounded Raw and aggro,it fitted the Goth thing I had going at the time. I flogged it in College to some guy called Shane for an increased price,and bought an Aria Pro II fretless. It needed a new fingerboard...I would love to have it again! At nearly anyprice.

I really thought Gibson Thunderbirds,were going to sound kak,Everyone said they are unstable,blurry sounding...and just 'difficult' to use.. Played a few old and new alike,Genuinely liked all of them.

Ive been TOTALLY faced at gigs and played brilliantly,I have the film to prove it...other times its total trash. I just shut up and let the fingers move about. Now I dont drink,use drugs.....anything,I just cant,and I find Im a better player fullstop.

I must say ,for me,Theres nothing attractive about a female at the end of a gig that stinks of Stella and 20 fags. Anyone shallow enough to swoon over a coversband,kinda makes me raise an eyebrow. Yeah that was a tad harsh but Ive had my run ins with groupies and the 'Oh you play guitar amazing' type (Its not a Guitar..its a Bass). Im past that sh*t now,love me for what I am,not what you think I may be.! patent a serial killer stare and women and men leave you alone.... Does make it hard to get help lifting gear at gigs though.

An L-2 Cricket bat is a hell of a lot lighter than the fullbodied Steinberger,and I feel,sounds fuller than a Status,But thats just me,But they are easier to get spares and upgrades for. Price really is the limiter here. The Hohner copies aint to bad, I once had one thrown at me in a Denmark st shop,the bloke was begging...£150 cash there and then (5 string)

Kinda like EMG pickups.......you get the sound,the sound is great,but It sounds like the next person with the same equipment. There is better out there. I feel a 4x10 and a 1x15 have greater range,esp if you downtune manically.
