hmmm..thats a fair point Home recording...didnt think of that
2.
I only play bass, only want to play bass, and frankly am quite happy with any label stuck to me as long as it includes the word bass! Is that dense or niaive?
Its not an Albatross,if you dont feel its weight.

Thankyou everyone, for the advice,on the insistance of the geezer in Electromusic in Doncaster,I tried the Boss. It seemed simple enough, and was fun, this sort of thing seems quite basic though, but rather rugged in construction (something Ive always insisted upon). The only question I have left is £170 reasonable for such a box of tricks?
4.
Hey what's with the negative view point, matey? ..... I'd rather widdle Schooldays in with the PAs than compete with "Smells Like Teen Spirt" played by pre-pubescent Strat fumblers ...
TEEN SPIRT!!! Blimey, you both have a good point. I would rather have a solitary Bass section ala Mansons.
5.
I had just the opposite... I quit the last band I was in (first time I've ever walked out of one in a decade's playing) due to the other three repeatedly turning up late for practice by more than an hour each time and saying that they were tired and hungry when they'd been off all day and I'd come straight from a nightshift, not having slept for 24+ hours or eaten for 12. It only takes a month of that before you leave... Plus, they'd sacked the second guitarist, who, by my reckoning was the most melodically capable and technically able player I've encountered to date. He was such a nice guy, too. They handled it very badly, and persisted in kicking him out in spite of my protests. I left 3 months ago. They keep 'phoning / mailing my wife to try to get her to persuade me to do recording work and the occasional live gig for them... Strangely, the other guitarist has also refused to help them. Let the A-holes stick together (irrespective of what instrument they play). They can form their own little club and leave the rest of us to get on with the music
Thats the jealousy bug....the "hes better than me I dont like him" germ. I have not seen that for a long time,I guess it will come back as music gets back into a more technical fashion (REALLY early 90s was the last plague of that) its quite childish.
6.
i find writing all your bands songs helps enormously in that respect.
Exactly. Do stuff that no-one around you can do. Write better parts. I find the biggest frustration, came up in a recent audition,I was playing along with the band, and just simply asked "What do you want?"....And then got a blank answer,"er.....dunno...kinda Cliff Burton". Obviously the ONLY bassist of note they had heard of. I HATE it when bands use guitarists that 'own' a Bass,if you know what I mean, the drummer had never been in a ryth section as a unit...and it showed. I swear its a dying art,Ive never been a guitarist....EVER,always played Bass. SO why do bands accept crappy standards. Its like we have,or rather our instrument has become an afterthought.
7. Steiny Cricket bat. Easy to repair and replace. And far better than alot of these Diet models, you see about.
8. Yeah I remember the name, and Mike I believe is in Europe,or someplace,he packed it all in really after the Morbid Angel incident...had one good last stab on the COF Astoria thing if Im right (But dont quote me on that). Never met the guy,but from all Ive ever heard about him, your opinion seems consistant. Mad times, lotta weird bands floating between Black and Death metal at the time... Mourn,Dark Heresy,Enmity, early COF,Hecate Enthroned.....Thus Defiled.... God,I bet half this lot have jobs now,or failed dismally and became a record label.

Can any of these multi-track,as to intergrate loops as and when I please? (Think Frippatronics)
10. MAKE yourself indispensible
11. Well then that just falls into customer care.... I can say that if Jim made a pile of sawdust and it played badly the lot would get burnt and he'd start again. The leap of faith for me is the ability to have patience. You,as the consumer bring the risks upon yourself,by dictating what you want,as I pointed out before, wood is highly variable..piece to piece
12. Should have just said Gothenburg......It was my second guess,At The Gates hang on 95...was Dissection with them? Was that the Devils Chruch gig..£2.50 to see them in the Redeye or wherever Mike had his setup? My mates got a great handheld vid of that lineup in Bradford. What were your lot called?
13. I remember a pic and interview with him in Guitarworld back in 91,and he had this Mashed up,beaten good Tele that was modded to hell and back. Coincidentally,Primus were being interviewed in the same article, and thats when Les let slip about 'Ler's' shady past with Possessed.
14. actually living by the sea aint all that great, you go through strings like no-ones business, and salt air corrodes everything.
15. Wheres his old white tele Bass?
16. Hows the willis ramp thing working for you!?
17.
Sei, ACG, Overwater, Shuker, doesn't get much better than those does it?
It does Jim Fleeting (Waits for the enivitable full on strop by Shuker FC and etc etc detritus...muck throwing....blah blah)
18.
I hope you are not serious about this, because in that case, I'm afraid your band will be out of jobs pretty soon. The idea of playing together with other people in a band should always be trying to create good music, not to try to make each other look bad on stage. If the guitarist is suddenly left without a clue of where the 1 in the beat is, do you think that will make people think "at least the bass player knows his stuff"? Probably not. To tell you the truth, a surprisingly large part of the audience would normally not be able to tell which sounds come from the guitar, and which comes from the bass. If the guitar sounds cr*p, the band sounds cr*p. To the original poster: I understand your frustration over not getting enough recognition for your skills, and your guitarist's obvious lack of understanding on the equal importance of each of the instruments in the band. How about suggesting that you practice some unison lines for some of the songs? The guitarist might still not be impressed, but at least it shows the audience that you have actually rehearsed:)
Absolutely serious.... A few bars in a little point in a set, just to give the message, not saying to do it in a big payday job,but just a bit of push/pull on a pub gig or rehearsal will suffice. And if you get fired I think its more to do with ego bruising rather than talent (hense I say Good drummer is essential) and If the part of the audience cant tell the difference between a guitar/bass,do you think they will be able to tell a blatant cock up compared to a ryth section play around... Its kind of playing as a musician...do it well and you will be applauded. Guitar sounds cr@p=Band sounds cr@p is rubbish.
19. A price increase? It happens...If the instrument worth it,judging by looks alone...Yes. Everyone says good things about Sei's and the build quality is there so a 20% increase on an already top nick instrument isnt a suprise. If you cant afford it,or think its wrong,go to a different luthier ACG,Shuker (as and when Jons stuff has dried out),RIM, or Jim Fleeting

I need to get one of these things.Im really green about this sort of thing. I want a floor unit, timeable delay..as in i can start/finish the delay as/when I wish. and it has to be made of metal. recommend me people
21. That sound like hell...How did you not lose your rag.?
22. simple, dont respond...and start playing about with timing with the drummer. Does help if you have a drummer thats good, but do it on a gig,and REALLY dick about under a the guitar solo,(Its freeform right) its hard and takes practise, but if you two fire off each other really well, then the guitarists frustration will be a picture. Remember guitar players demand and need orchestrated interplay, take structure away from them and they flounder in their own ego.
23.
My tale is more a weekend of fun and games that I experienced when I was in my first band years ago (1995 I think) A name Swedish Death band was touring the OK and we'd been booked to open for their final show - London on a Sunday night. Wicked! I got a phone call from the London promotr on Friday mornign to say that the tour manager alleged he'd been mugged in Manchester and that he was carrying all of the cash needed for the tour, including payment for the coach company. Very fishy. Upon hearing of this, the coach company promptly announced they were returning to Sweden. If the headline and main support (also Swedish) wanted to get home with their gear they would have to cut short the tour, else the company would leave them in the UK. The 2nd support band werer from Belgium and decided that they'd be better off trying to get home from England. The promoter asked if we'd be willing to play the remaining dates of the tour so that the 2nd support could have a go at flogging some merchandise and at least making a few quid. The only problem is that they had no transport. We turn up at the first gig in Tunbridge Wells to find that there's no way the 2nd support can play. So, a 5 band bill featuring 3 name bands is suddenly reduced to a two band bill featuring a couple of demo bands. There was a queue of nearly 200 people outside and the venue aren't exactly publicising the billing. I had to walk the queue constantly to explain the situation. Thankfully the crowd are understanding and most demand a decent amount off the door price too. Next nigt's gig is in Milton Keynes. We load into our band transport -a Bedford rascal - and head on up to the gig. This time the Belgian band are playig but they have no transport whatsoever. WE do the gig and then the promoter plays his trump card-we need to get the Belgian band back to London. We drove down the M1 with 8 people and our backline wedged into the back of a 1.3 litre Bedford Rascal! And so went the weekend. We finally got roped into driving the band back to Dover so they could get the ferry back. They ended up leaving their backline with some strange witch they'd met in Canterbury and arranged for one of them to go backand get it later. Most of my gigs nowadays are more straightforward
Was that Dismember????
24. For me the answer is situational. And like others Ive been there when an active has died on a gig or has had an electrical fault. Essentially you are playing the same notes on either instrument so its probably a psychological question on like vs dislike. If I walk into a wedding,by instinct,I take a passive, because I dont want to be the one that had a crapout and spoilt the big day,yet on a normal gig,I take active because i can tweek the sound onstage via the onboard eq. My only nightmare is a G-K rig....ugh
25. You ever seen Bowie with Gabrels doing 'Heros'???
