1.
The GHS flats arrived today and a quick noodle has produced pleasant tones. The D and G sound much better. One thing though they kind of feel a little "dry/sticky" well that's the only way I can describe them. I assume with some playing in this will become less noticeable.
Might be manufacturing residue, a good wipe with isopropyl alcohol may help.
2. Someone's got to grab this. The pre alone cost £200, the pickups almost that, the D tuner is a good chunk of £100... and it's a flipping Valenti.
3. Just bought a Dingwall Super P5 and had a friend collect it (I paid before he took it away of course). Really friendly chap and a pleasure to deal with. Thanks Cam!
4. Good to see you on here, Tom. I'd say go straight for Godin. They're so well made and designed, and my two (guitars) have superb neck stability too... must be a Canadian thing!
5. I recently sold a Modern Player Jazz fiver that was excellent for the price. Stuck a pre in and it was fantastic.
6. I have one of these... but yours is in much better condition. I've actually got flats on mine and use it as my beater P. Excellent basses!
7. What are you playing at the moment?
8. As the others said, Ibanez Soundgears. I'm not a huge fan of the sound myself these days, but it's a cheap way to get that electronics setup and the Soundgears are comfortable basses if you like slim necks and string spacings.
9. I would probably be just as mad as you, but I have a better drummer story... during a rehearsal, a drummer decided it would be really funny to crash his cymbal as loud as possible by my ear while I was setting up my pedalboard, triggering tinnitus that hasn't stopped in the ten years since and will probably bug me for the rest of my life even if I sell all my basses.
10.
These are getting a lot of love at the moment http://www.thomann.de/gb/marcus_miller_v7_alder_5_awh.htm?ref=search_rslt_sire+bass_351749_12
I have to say that if the reviews are accurate, that's a hell of a lot of bass for the money.
11. So I imagine a five string (with everything else vintage accurate) would be out of the question?
12. I completely forgot when I got home yesterday, I will measure up my bass as promised this evening and let you know as soon as!
13. This week, in a long overdue clutter- and gear-reduction exercise, three basses and one guitar left my possession (with the provisional sale of three more also agreed), with only one coming in... but what an entry! The new (to me) Olympic White Dingwall Super J 5-string (right) is an almost perfect hybrid of the Fender Modern Player Jazz (top left) and Dingwall Combustion (bottom left) that made way for it. It's had an aftermarket preamp fitted (J-Retro is my guess), and I think it was purchase me from a Basschatter, so someone may know. Much more comfortable to me with 35-32" rather than 37-34", and happily Colgraff was looking to go the other way. A gentleman to deal with! Can't wait to try this one out in anger on a gig...
14. Fantastic transaction with Ben, we both got what we wanted in a Dingwall-Dingwall trade. Enjoy the new bass!
15. Bass traded for colgraff's Super J. Absolutely delighted with this transaction, we both got what we wanted which is exactly what you would wish for in a trade. A gentleman indeed.
16. An absolute pleasure doing business with you sir! I'll leave you some feedback.
17. Not sure I'd post my bank account details publicly, probably best to PM that sort of thing
18.
Here's one I prepared earlier http://basschat.co.uk/topic/192744-relic-j5/page__hl__relic%20j5
That is stunning.
19. Hello, what is the string spacing at the bridge and nut?
