  1. I appreciate how logically inconsistent that sounds - I’m not sure how to verbally articulate it, but my Sadowskys have a certain polished sheen to the sound to them that my Fenders don’t (and I have some very good ones), even with the preamp off, and even with the pickups swapped to Nordstrands! I know Sadowsky uses Nordstrands in some of their builds too. I think there’s something about the construction to them - super tight neck pockets, carefully chosen wood, different body size, the thicker headstock helping with dead spots. Good fingers certainly help! Exactly. It’s all those things together, all the little details that add up. I will say, as I’ve said before, that the one thing that shifted the Sadowsky Preamp / DI off my board was the Noble Preamp. Similar in character to the Sad, but valve and something in there does something to the sound and feel which adds that extra few % for me (albeit at 5-6 times the cost).
  2. 4 - Sadowsky. 5 - Dingwall Super. 6 - And just to be different... I always thought the headstock of my first bass, the mighty Yamaha TRB, was beautiful.
  3. Not true, I have used my Sadowsky Preamp DI with my 64 Precision as well as my Dingwall Super P (which now has a Sadowsky preamp in it), and of course there is a Sadowsky pre in my P/J. My MV4 has Nordstrand NJ4SEs in it (brought the thing to life vs the Sadowsky hum cancellers that were in it before), my P/J has Aguilars. Still got the Sadowsky sound.
  4. If the MetroExpress basses turned out to be winners, I’d probably pick a secondhand one up when they started to become available and put a Sadowsky decal on it. I already have an early Metro and an NYC so no real rush.
  5. My Dingwall Super P5. But also my 64 (neck closeup was pre-refret and restoration).
  6. This is a somewhat niche question - I am trying to find out what my options are. I currently have custom-made Newtone phosphor bronzes on the lowest two strings of one of my fanned fret acoustic guitars, 105 and 85 gauge. The 85 gauge string feels great, the 105 is a bit floppy. I could ask a Newtone to wind me a 110 and a 115 to try, but I am also finding the phosphor bronze strings very squeaky, so thought I’d see what my flatwound or tapewound options are. The low E string is 26.8” scale, and as it stands I’d need it to be 30” from ball end to where the string thins out... but I am prepared to modify the headstock if needed which would allow me to 33” or to change to a bass tuner Thanks in advance for your expertise!
  7. Ooh la la. If only this had come at a more financially appropriate time...
  8. These 90s TRB Mk 1s are so so good, my TRB6 was my first bass and still one of my favourites.
  9. The petition is now being checked, so it may take a little while before people can sign again.
  10. I’ve made a petition – will you sign it? Click this link to sign the petition: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/304282/sponsors/new?token=vwkEfHvmH3GV3zLziKvN ——— My petition: Formally ban mass gatherings in Theatres, Venues, Restaurants and Bars, etc The Prime Minister has asked people to stay away from mass events including entertainment, cultural and hospitality venues; however by making this voluntary rather than mandatory, these venues are unable to claim insurance for closure, making their situations untenable. By formally closing venues, they can claim insurance meaning employees, casual workers and others dependent on their operation can receive compensation for their loss of work, allowing them to survive in these difficult times. Encouraging customers to boycott them means empty venues, no income for owners, and therefore no way to pay workers. 11. I did NOT need this temptation...!!!
  12. People selling their basses to switch to more / fewer strings is how I’ve managed to acquire most of my collection
  13. Put flats on, that’ll fix that 😂
  14. That was quick!
  15. What pickup is it?
  16. I have one too, really cool little thing and lots of fun. Sounds great through a Micro POG or an OC2, or for just playing chord melody. Really handy for technique exercises anywhere.
  17. Inexplicably still here. Willing to consider reasonable offers for cash on collection.
  18. Willing to listen to reasonable offers for cash on collection.
