Warwick to become 'Exclusive Licensee' to Sadowsky!
therealting replied to warwickhunt's topic in Bass Guitars
Bet the decal makers will earn a few bob from making Japanese-style “Sadowsky MetroExpress” logos for a bit... -
Fan-fret basses...scale lengths/the science.
therealting replied to NancyJohnson's topic in Bass Guitars
It really depends, some chord shapes are only possible high up on a fanned fretboard or short scale. Others are of course much harder. -
Fan-fret basses...scale lengths/the science.
therealting replied to NancyJohnson's topic in Bass Guitars
I find the opposite - the longer scale makes the string tighter at the same pitch, so it moves less and allows lower action on the B. -
Very much a feeler, this one. If it doesn’t sell I am very happy to hang on to it, am just trying to clear some space in my place. Thinking of possibly parting with my Yamaha BB435. These are incredible basses - sustain for days, great tone, unheard-of features in the price category. Notable ones: - six bolt neck attachment that pulls the neck into the body for extra sustain and coupling - super comfy curved neck joint - 45 degree through-body stringing option on bridge, plus extended B string if top-loading - superb passive P/J pickups, with a J pickup that actually balances well with the P What sets this one up from a stock one is the tort pickguard I’ve had made (transforms it, in my opinion - still has the protective plastic on it, and I still have the original parchment one) and that I’ve had the fingerboard edges rolled along with a full fret level and setup. This transforms it from being a nice neck for the money to a superb neck at any price, as nice as the BBP35 to my hands (having tried them side by side). Condition is near-mint. No dings that I can see, and only the gentlest of polishing hairline surface scratches (very difficult to avoid on gloss black!). £399 cash on collection from SE London (Greenwich, Bromley, Croydon). Don’t want to be sending this, also I’d rather it was tried in the flesh as the fingerboard rolling is best felt in person. I’m not planning on reducing the price, would rather keep it.

SOLD - Epifani UL310 Mk I - Excellent Condition
therealting posted a topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
On offer is my Epifani UL310 Mk I, in excellent condition. I remember lusting after one of these when seeing them endorsed by Matt Garrison in bass mags, and a few years ago managed to snag this beauty. This is the version with the sought after B&C speakers (no longer made). It’s done a few big gigs with me (including a couple at the Royal Festival Hall with orchestra and choir), and filled the space beautifully and effortlessly... yet much easier to cart around than a 4x10”, I can comfortably carry it one handed. Carpet is in excellent condition with no visible nicks. It comes with a padded cover which has obviously done a great job of keeping it neat and taken the wear and tear punishment. Selling because I have too many amps and am doing 95% of my playing direct through in-ears, so it seems silly to have this taking up space in the house (going to hang on to my Fender Rumble for the odd amp gig). I’m not particularly looking for trades except possibly a 30-32” five or six string, or a Sadowsky 5-string P or PJ, but try me. I will also be listing a few other items so could combine for the right deal. £450 cash on collection please. I do not particularly want to post it as it’s heavy and difficult to package securely, unless you are willing to arrange your own courier and take FULL responsibility for any damage caused while in transit. Possible trades: Cali76, Helix Stomp, or try me. -
On offer is my Aguilar DB112, in excellent condition. I received this in a trade from a fellow forum member along with another DB112 (already sold) and a ToneHammer 500 (which I might hang on to for a bit). I’ve never taken it out of the house. I did take the other one out of the house once with the ToneHammer, and it sounded every bit as scrumptious as you’d expect from an Aggie rig. Tolex is in excellent condition with only two nicks towards the rear of the cab (not visible from the front, and I’ve tried to picture them below with close-up shots). It comes with a very nice padded cover which has obviously done a great job of keeping it neat. Fan-fret basses...scale lengths/the science.
therealting replied to NancyJohnson's topic in Bass Guitars
My #1 is a Dingwall Super P5, which is 32-35” scale. To me this is the best combination of comfort and sound, the B is tight but still Fenderlike (rather than the more modern sounding 37” on their longscales), and the 32” G sings more to me. The 3” scale difference doesn’t bother me, and I hardly notice it other than when I’m way up the dusty end, when I just have to pay a little bit of attention. -
Fender Bass VI , bass or baritone guitar ?
therealting replied to martin8708's topic in Bass Guitars
You could play it as a baritone? -

Has anyone managed to source heavy duty shoulder straps that clip onto gig bags (usually via rings)? I find these are often the first things to break on gig bags, and as a result I’m often reluctant to trust them. I’d happily pay a reasonable amount for a really heavy duty strap with clips that aren’t made of pot metal.

No link? I spotted it here. https://www.facebook.com/groups/BassPlayersMarketUK/permalink/2980654698612805/?sale_post_id=2980654698612805

Not all Barts are created equal, the same way not all Fenders are created equal.
-
You’d just need a period of adjustment is all. I’m fine up the dusty end now, in fact many things are easier.
-
@dave_bass5 They are optimised for playing in the money zone, so the top register does take a little adjustment.

Ummmmm Interesting body shape!!!
therealting replied to Jimothey's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I’m not even certain you could fit a bridge into that and get it to intimate, the gap from the neck doesn’t look long enough to me. -
Can anyone recommend a nice fretless semi-acoustic bass?
therealting replied to Basilpea's topic in Bass Guitars
I love Godins - I have three - but to me they are more of a small-bodied acoustic bass than a semi-hollow electric like the Starbass. -
You could, as some of us here have done, split the difference and get a medium scale 😊
