  1. Have dealt with them frequently for school orders.
  2. Exactly, and the same can be done for 22. I know F is less common as a useful note for rock etc, but if you play jazz, big band etc then F is a pretty useful note. Certainly more so than F#.
  3. 22 can be fitted on a standard neck with just a short fingerboard overhang, so you can retrofit it to the usual bodies.
  4. Flogging In The a Street - is that the Martha Reeves and the Vandellas version, or the David Bowie and Mick Jagger version?
  5. Pretty much my ideal 4 string. Damn.
  6. Posted by Roger on Facebook: “Hi Everyone.....I am on holiday now after spending the last 4 days at the Warwick factory. The quality of the new instruments are amazing. I spent time with the amazing Warwick production manger, Marcus Spangler preparing all of the instruments for NAMM, selecting body blanks in the Sadowsky weight range and reviewing every detail. “Many of you are expressing your opinions and there is a lot of speculation. I want to invite you to post questions to me beginning on December 28, when I will return home and I will do my best to answer all of them.. I will not have time to review any questions posted prior to December 28. “Thanks to all of you who have been supportive of me. As a Japanese sushi chef who is serving an Omakase would say..."Trust Me".” https://www.facebook.com/groups/2413733079/permalink/10157604627368080/
  7. Perfect range for Sir Duke 😂 Also, don’t forget the Leo was at the start of the journey for electric bass. He probably asked double bass players what sort of range would be required, and most of them probably thought Eb would be way higher than they would use. Technique and repertoire have had a good sixty years to develop since then.
  8. Glad to hear it - these are amazing quality, and but for the pointy headstock I would have been quite tempted!
  9. It really depends what sort of stuff you play. If you don’t do any sort of soloing / melody doubling / chordal playing, then it probably doesn’t matter too much.
  10. @NewfoundfreedomFair enough - hope the five strings adaptation goes well!
  11. @Newfoundfreedom Then I’d strongly recommend going secondhand. That way if it doesn’t work out and you have to sell, you won’t lose money, which is especially important if you are skint.
  12. I agree with most of this except the assertion that buying five strings under £1k is a lottery. That isn’t necessarily true any more. I know loads of pro players rocking five strings from Yamaha, Sire, etc and sounding great through them. My Yamaha BB435 is spectacularly good and would be at three times the price.
  13. I can’t guarantee it as everyone’s different - I think the key is, as you say, to try lots and see what you find works for you. Try it sitting down, on a strap, playing riffs, fills, etc. Legato for hammer one and pull offs. Different string tensions. Maybe borrow a few from different mates on a gig and see how your hands find playing in anger for a decent amount of time. Some basses I can play for hours and my hands are comfy - others I’m done within 30 seconds.
  14. I am comfortable with both Jazz and Precision neck widths, but you me the profile is just as important. My 64 and 61 are both wide but fairly shallow in profile, making them very comfy to play (IMO). At the other end of things, my medium scale Jazz and Precision are both fairly narrow necks, but sufficiently thick to avoid hand cramps. Ibanez Soundgear necks give my left hand cramps after a minute or so of playing. A real shame because I think they’re otherwise nice looking and nice sounding instruments.
  15. Yamahas are an excellent starting point. My stable includes the likes of Dingwall, Sadowsky and pre-CBS Fenders, and my three Yamaha basses hold their own. My two fivers are a Dingwall Super P5 and a Yamaha BB435. They’re both fantastic. Bonus if you get a secondhand one at a fair price: if you decide to move it on later (either because you don’t like fivers, or because you do and want to upgrade), you’ll probably get your money back.
  16. I’m curious as to who Andrew is.
  17. There’s a guy on here selling the 4 string version.
  18. Revelations are as good as anything I’ve tried new in that sort of price range (well, slightly higher, but worth it). Secondhand, you could do worse than a Yamaha. Pretty much any one
  19. That’s gorgeous (the first 9 photos aren’t working). Reminds me of a certain NYC marque. Do you know the weight and scale length?
  20. ... well, at least it’s removable
