  1. I’ve had my eye on @Dave Swift‘s 6-string for a while now...
  2. @HughRichardson great review mate, might have to check these out. Very natural sounding sub octave sound.
  3. The Supers are fine. The long scale models you need to be a little more careful.
  4. 5 string. I’m not sure what gauge as they came on the bass from the previous owner, but they certainly feel gentle under the fingers.
  5. Do you know the brand of the bass?
  6. The Sadowsky Preamp DI works just as well, adds an XLR out and a tuner mute, and fits on just about any board. I had one on my board for quite a while until my Noble displaced it.
  7. Great flats, I have them on my Dingwall Super P.
  8. I think that’s a Mayones? Which isn’t really my thing either. I’m definitely a P man, but I used to be a J man. It’s surprising how your tastes can evolve.
  9. Blue silks?
  10. I assume you mean convex.
  11. Very easy to take the gloss down with a little fine wire wool.
  12. I started on six string (currently own three) and am still very comfortable playing one, especially sight reading pit orchestra music. Also switch regularly with fours and fives. It’s a good mental challenge.
  13. If I were left handed I’d have it!
  14. There’s one on Gumtree which looks like the one on the right, is that yours?
  15. What strings does everyone use? Both my 32s are actually pretty snappy sounding basses so I’d like to get something like Elixirs, but they don’t do a medium scale set. Could cut them down I guess.
  16. I’ve done a few functions with him in my time!
  17. Ah, so you’re in a band with Aggiss!
  18. I started on acoustic double bass playing orchestral, and playing pizz with acoustic pop things. Got an Eminence last year and it is pretty close to the real thing.
  19. £1,500 for a matching pair?! I wish I could play 35”!
  20. Sadowsky is also based in New York (well, Queens). Secondhand prices, like anything, are largely a game of supply and demand. Foderas are perceived as being desirable, and the supply of them is limited. Hence high prices.
  21. Ah that’s a shame. Let me know if you decide to get rid of anything.
  22. Thanks, they’re both great actually! There’s a Gypsy Rose on eBay at the moment with a split neck. Still about £100 shipped... there are several on for £300-400!
  23. Was wondering the same!
  24. Looked the same shape, but in tort? It does look much better than the aged white, I agree.
