  1. Alternatively, get a Sadowsky preamp DI, which will also make all your other basses sound amazing too.
  2. Yup. Solderless connectors.
  3. MIJ Jazz Basses are worth spending a bit of money on. Seek out a secondhand pair of the best pickups you can get, and you’ll probably end up playing it more than you think. I put a pair of Nordstrands and a J-Retro into my medium-scale Jazz, and it is such a killer banger now.
  4. Double bass, bass guitar and guitar are all transposing instruments that sound an octave below being written, so you have to play the notes an octave above to have them sound right. It is a pain, and I hate reading from tuba parts!

    Sold

What was it? Hate it when all the details are removed!
  6. Fender flats have green silks. I have them on my 61 Precision.
  7. Still for sale. Only moving on because I’ve moved to electric upright for acoustic gigs, this is a stunning bass for the money.
  8. Completely plain wenge board, but the MTD that I have for sale in the classifieds is very good.
  9. I own an Eminence, and I have to say that Aria is a very good looking bass! Does it generate much acoustic volume? I notice there’s a bridge pickup, do you find that more authentic sounding than the magnetic one?
  10. That is a little bit of a steal right there...! Very tempted to nab this for my school
  11. Oh if you were in London. This like a discount P34 😍
  12. They are more demanding in terms of getting a good consistent mwah, if that’s what you’re after. Definitely worth having the fingerboard levelled if it isn’t in great shape.
  13. This. The great thing about this P setup is that it generally sounds great in the mix of almost anything other than possibly slappy stuff.
  14. If that had a normal body, I’d be very interested!
  15. £100 is a great deal for a starter double bass for a smaller learner!
  16. Agreed!! My favourite is when sellers put “Collection only” and don’t say where they are!
  17. I had a J-Retro Deluxe on a Modern Player Jazz which worked well (and later had one on a Dingwalls Super J, but that now has a Sadowsky pre instead).
  18. Thanks for that. I’m wondering if running it through my Noble might be beneficial, it has a HPF built in, as well as the bass and treble boost.
  19. Would you recommend one of these for the Realist on my Eminence?
  20. My Cordes Lamberts arrived today, so I immediately tried to string up my Eminence with them and found that they are too big for the tuning machines 😕 What I did do was swap the Helicore Hybrids on my acoustic with the mystery synthetics on the Eminence... and it appears to have brought both to life and made both easier to play. Very peculiar! Will keep an eye on this space obviously, but just might do the job for now...
  21. Stick basses without shoulders can tend to spin if using normal endpins, this is one solution to counteract that.
