  1. I emailed Gollihur and they say they’ve never seen them before! Solid core with a knot, steel wrap... their guess is an early version or prototype of Innovation Honeys. I played my upright acoustically yesterday with a mid-size jazz band and struggled to pull volume out of it during faster passages. Might have to work on that technique. In the meantime of purchased @spencer.b’s set of Cordes Lambert GT-47s to try on the Eminence, curious to see what they are like.
  2. Is the diameter standard? You could probably cut up a feedback buster fairly easily if so. The wooden ones are foam-backed so that could be easily customised or modified.
  3. I’ve put up with the badly-butchered bridge on my acoustic double bass for too long, so I’m thinking of replacing it with an adjustable one. Is there a huge difference between different ones? Is it worth the almost £200 difference between the most and least expensive ones on Amazon for example (the cheapest and most popular is £25)? The impression I get is that it’s the fitting that makes the biggest difference. My bass is a carved solid top Zeller 3/4 flat back.
  4. The bassist in one of my bands (where I sing and play guitar) acquired a BB P35 recently, and it is one of the best instruments I’ve ever played... and I have two pre-CBS Fender Precisions. It’s incredible! I’ll certainly be picking one up when they start coming up secondhand.
  5. The colour coding looks like D’Addario, but the Preludes are stranded steel not gut - could they be another brand?
  6. Thanks guys. Wondered if you’d know what strings these are on my acoustic upright. The colours suggest D’Addario Prelude from Bob Gollihur’s site, but I’m not sure if these are metal stranded - does that look like synthetic gut at the tailpiece to you? I might actually swap the strings over on them to see how they feel.
  7. Those Modern Player Jazzes are great aren’t they? I had one with a J Retro Deluxe that I only sold to upgrade to a Dingwall Super J as it was too heavy for me. I had a tort guard on it, was a beautiful thing.
  8. Interested in this too, ideally in London. What sort of costs would a setup be, assuming no other issues?
  9. How floppy do they get? Just seen that @benbastin has a solo set of Kaplans in the Classifieds...
  10. Aha, someone who has tried a bunch! Which were your favourites? I do play orchestral double bass and have had lessons, but am mainly an electric player so would rather take it easy on the RSI and let the amp do the work when possible.
  11. I’d like to make my Eminence EUB easier to play - the action is pretty low but the strings feel stiffer to me than they do on my acoustic double bass. Would I be right in thinking these are D’Addario Helicore Hybrids? Any suggestions on lower tension strings to try?
  12. I believe it’s being produced, but they have not yet come into circulation.
  13. I bought a pair of Nordstrands on here from a guy who went for the 7.25” version on his bass, and he said they were more balanced across the strings.
  14. Looks like an active layout to me.
  15. I was going to say it looks more like a BB than an RBX.
  16. My MV4 is 3.9kg (8.6lb), so hardly heavy. Changing the pickups out for NJ4SEs brought the thing to life. I’ve tried a bunch of NYCs and other than the weight of the super light ones, this Metro is every bit as good.
  17. I had an otherwise lovely six-string Soundgear that I had to sell because I found the neck made my hand cramp. I find the Myung allows me to play for much longer. Everyone’s different of course.
  18. I have one and find the neck much more comfortable than the Soundgears as it’s not as skinny.
