1.
If it gets desperate, I've found chrome looks very well aged with a gentle rub of a dry brillo cloth. I've done that with replacement hardware on my old vintage basses in days gone by.
Is that just to scratch it up, or to remove the chrome plating?
2. ... and where are you located?
3.
I thought the original Series 1 (i.e. like this one) were 34" scale with 19mm string spacing, and then amended to 35" / 18mm on the Series 2, but as you say a ruler will decide it one way or the other! Very very nice bass and in amazing condition for its age - GLWTS
33 7/8" IIRC
4. I need to step away right now and not ask you about scale length and spacing...
5.
I'm sure this is how my wife does her roast potatoes.
Roasted maple neck with roasted potato tubers
6. Was the refin also done by Bill Nash? Nitro also I assume?
7.
thank you for the offer, i ended up buying a Violin bass copy by Vintage as i loved the feel and tone but thank you anyway, really got the itch to get more violin basses now lol
Indeed - I love mine and am now constantly looking out for vintage examples...
8. So I'm lucky enough to have a couple pre-CBS Precisions, and I'd quite like to have Hipshot Xtenders put on them if at all possible. Does anyone know of anyone who is able to age these D-tuners sympathetically so they still work well but don't look completely out of place?
9.
However the link shouldn't require you to download the app to see the photos - as far as I'm aware this is just for extra storage and no ads (I don't have the app myself). You should be able to close the pop-up, if not I can message you the rest of the set if you would like to see them all.
That's just Photobucket being a colossal pain. I tend to leave ads that only have a Photobucket link because they mess my phone up something chronic. You've embedded photos now though, so well done (:
10. I have a Revelation P which scratches my fretless itch just fine for now. My last two fretlesses were an MTD fiver and a Curbow-style Tanglewood. It might seem a little out of place in my collection next to the Dingwalls and Sadowsky etc, but actually for my needs it's more than enough bass for me. Lightweight too.
11.
or a woman.
So true. I hate the chase in this area.
12. My Mk I TRB6 was my first bass, a real beast!
13. Where in London are you based? I have one you can try if it's convenient.
14. I think I enjoy the chase as much as anything. I almost always end up playing the same bass on actual gigs (my Dingwall Super P5).
15. I've had a Combustion V1 and it was good, but the Super P and Super J I have now are in a different league.
16. I feel like my Super P5 is the bass that I've always wanted (and my Super J5 is no slouch either). I've got some really nice other boutique and vintage stuff, but the Super P5 is flawless to me and I can't see myself ever parting with it. That sort of feeling is probably why few Dingwalls seem to come up.
17.
Have you looked at Luminlay? I had them fitted to my Warwick Starbass for exactly the same reason and they have been great. IIRC it cost £50 to have the fitted by my local luthier, although if the bass had a detachable neck I would have probably done it myself.
Another vote for Luminlay. I have them on my Sadowsky and both my Dingwalls.
18.
Hi there, do joy know who did the refin ?
+1. Refin details are crucial here
