1. Count the holes and you're most of the way there. It's the bridge pickup that moved between the 60s and 70s. I still think John does the best aged Fender pickguards - I have three instruments from him, two with Bravewood repro pickguards and one with a vintage guard. They're incredible!
2. 73s have poly finish so less delicate than nitro if you want to try cleaning it properly.
3. Quite wanted an Ashula - hope one of these comes up secondhand!
4. Payment sent.
5. Also, I'm guessing the bass itself is completely passive? Are the recordings through the pre?
6. This is beautiful. Do you know how much it weighs?
7.
theres no structural damage, just chips in the lacquer but now I know theyre there my OCD dislikes it. Weight reduction sounds like a good idea though, would love to hear ideas.
Strip the finish, thin the body, refinish in oil?
8. E to C is easy to do, you may not even need to change the nut. I used to go back and forth between BEADG and EADGC on my Stingray all the time with just intonation tweaks.
9. I would totally put a tort guard on that!
10. I walked into the Sadowsky showroom a year ago and had the chance to try out all the electric guitars they had in their demo room. I fell in love with a light blue Strat which is definitely not the one I would have picked based on its looks. Two days later I was stressing about checking it onto the plane...
11. Don't think so, Bassdirect is the place to try Dingwalls in stock. I've never been though, got both of mine (and the one I had before) secondhand.
12. Nice. Weight?
13. Again I'm relieved. It's a stunner.
14. Hello mate - where are you based by the way? Is it Made in Japan, and can I ask what it weighs?
15. I'm not normally a fan of white on black, but this is very very cool and I'm definitely having a think.
16.
Have to confess I've only refretted my own in brass. Instruments I've done for others tend to arrive in a bad way with poor frets causing buzzing and other noises, so I'm not in the best position to say. What difference have you heard between them?
They have a slightly more metallic ring to the note attack. Not always a bad thing, but a more modern sound. String bending is a different level with stainless though - effortless.
17. Do you sense much of a tonal difference with stainless frets? They sound different in my Strats.
18. I started on six string - and a very wide six string my TRB6 is! - and consequently am equally comfortable on 4/5/6 string bass. I don't play too much six string any more though. I tend to take my 4-string Dingwall pair (Super J with rounds/Super P with flats) on gigs where there is some more modern music that would benefit from the low B (and where I can get away with the more modern look). On gigs where a more classic look is appropriate, I take a 4-string pair: my Sadowsky J with rounds and a Fender P with flats. Pretty lucky with the selection I have now!
19. I'd quite like a P/J with a neck woofer a la Billy Sheehan. My Attitude Special has the P thing going on, and you can mix in the neck woofer for additional EB-style low end.
