I bought a tort 10 hole from Sims two weeks ago - beautiful (see thread here on tort plates for image). About £90 but custom and gorgeous celluloid nitrate. I have the original Fender left if of interest (though should probably keep it)
Did they do it from the old guard? I'd love to have one made for my Dingwall Super J.
Really looking to try one of these since I'm not enjoying your comfort of the Dingwall too much, how does it compare to the combustion line? Always like ibby necks, how does it compare to their necks from the BTB and high end SR range ?
I'm not too familiar with the BTB necks or the other SRs, but compared with the Combustion I had (MK 1) the neck is slimmer and of course wider... however the spacing is slightly narrower. It's also obviously shorter in scale and the fan is less extreme. Presumably the Combustion is what you have now.

I have a series I TRB6 which was my first bass (got a great deal on it), it's a phenomenal instrument. The build quality is absolutely faultless, and the acoustic tone is fantastic. The preamp is a little bit hissy but is easily replaced. I was very comfortable with it when it was my only / primary bass, but having adjusted to other basses now I find it a little wide and heavy for me.

Yeah I'm really torn. It was restored by one of the finest in the business (I own one of his replicas and it is indistinguishable from the real thing other that two deliberate differentiators), and the asking price is under £4k

Yeah that's the thing, but it is priced with that in mind. It's a handwound Bareknuckle, with CTS solid shafts and an old cap

Hello folks, I'd been looking at getting a high quality replica of a pre-CBS Precision, and the opportunity has come up to purchase a fine example of a '61. It has been refinished (sympathetically and authentically and to an exceptional standard, but still a refin), and has had a refret and a new pickup and pots installed. Case, hardware, strap, covers all original. It will cost about double what the reproduction does... but it is an original 61 P. Thoughts?

Why is my Fender Jazz so temperamental sounding?
therealting replied to Jaykingfunk's topic in Bass Guitars
Does it have a passive/active switch? -
I've decided to sell my SRFF806 as the neck is just too slim for me (I have hand issues). As new, freshly set up, and listed in the Classifieds.

2015 Fender FSR Classic 60s Lacquer Precision. Purchased as I wanted to see if the "P" thing was for me, and delivered so spectacularly that I'm going straight to the top and seeking out a nice vintage example. This is a Factory Special Run (Limited Edition) finished in a super-thin lacquer coat that not only lets the bass resonate like crazy (you have to try it), but will also age beautifully like the classic nitro lacquer finishes from the 60s pre-CBS era. Think of it as a relic that you will do yourself and will bear the genuine marks of your own use. Super lightweight alder body (bass weighs just 3.7kg) finished in vintage white, rosewood board, select Fender pickups, passive volume and tone, vintage-style reverse tuners. Very good condition other than some buckle rash (this lacquer is VERY thin) and hairline polish scratches mainly to the pickguard, only left the house for one very careful gig. I've had it fully set up professionally with a fret level so it plays incredibly well with a medium-low action. Was £930 new, spent around £100 on the fret level and full setup, so offered (with genuine Fender gigbag in as new condition) at £700 ono. Stunning Japanese workmanship and value. If it doesn't sell, then I'll keep it as a backup to the vintage P I plan to procure. Lots of high res photos here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/wxx2j83oujlabpp/AAB_yKsXzlbCs4bcorw620lPa?dl=0 I am based in London SE3. Edit: May be interested in local trades for more battered vintage-type P or Mustang type Fender basses (ideally nitro in vintage white, sunburst, or faded fiesta red a la Pino, with a tort guard) with cash either way for the right deal.
