  1. Have you seen this in the Wanted section? A bit brief and to the point, but there you go!
  2. For example if you have two counter melodies going on. I think to really appreciate why it's a worldwide standard just watch a conductor directing an orchestra. Without the framework of the music it would make the task much harder, and if you have one set of musicians doing one thing with their long notes and another part of the orchestra doing something else which part dictates where the bar ends? I agree that many things can be improved but I do think this particular aspect has stood the test of time for the last 3 or 4 centuries at least!
  3. And on Amazon, slightly cheaper.
  4. Now traded. Thanks for all the interest. For sale or trade is my immaculate Ibanez SR4000e. The bass s/n dates it to Nov 2014 and it really is immaculate condition. It comes in the original Ibby hardcase with the Swiss Army Knife tool thing. Weight wise it's a little less than 8 1/2 lbs by my scales. The spec is: Mahogany body in natural oiled finish 5-piece Wenge/Bubinga neck with titanium rods Wenge fretboard with MOP oval inlays Nicely dressed medium frets Bartolini Custom pickups with the Power Curve III EQ - 3-band with sweepable mids and an EQ bypass switch Monorail bridge and Gotoh tuners. All hardware is Cosmo Black Trades wise I'm happy to consider cash either way depending on the bass or a straight swap. The sort of things I'd be interested in (4 strings only please) are a US or MIJ P Bass, maybe a Spector Legend NT, a Stingray? Anyway, please feel free to make offers and I'll be polite if it's not quite what floats my boat. Happy to ship (at cost for buyer), but would much prefer to meet up and jumping in the car for an hour or two would not be a problem. For trades I'd much prefer to meet up. Thanks for looking and here are some pics, note that the case interior is not that pink, more red in colour. Let me know if you would like any more information or additional detailed pics of any aspect of the bass.
  5. I'm about to start learning the piano at age 57. I can read the treble clef as I used to play the violin to a decent standard but I have a block for the bass side which needs sorting. Plus I think it will improve my bass playing.
  6. I have some exellent imitation Fender branded foam.
  7. Just sold Brian a strap. Excellent to deal with, plenty of PMs and quick payment, one of the good guys that make this site what it is. What's not to like people; deal in full confidence fellow BCers.
  8. Goodness. However that is exactly the kind of bass I'd really want to hand over in person even if it meant meeting half way.
  9. Very sweet indeed. I really like that level of relic and as you quite rightly say it's not to everyone's taste but sod 'em. Just so we can upset Prowla what's on the headstock I've just re-discovered the P/J since my Spector Legend owning days (the first series with P/J and 3-band EQ). I've just grabbed a cheapie Tanglewater Classic Jazz which has received a few upgrades!
  10. What about a few AC/DC standards if your singer has that kind of vibe? Whole Lotta Rosie Let there be rock Back in black etc. etc.
  11. I think people are nervous about couriers, and giving the relentless rise in web-based retail and the 'next day delivery' promise the pressure on the logistics side of the business is only going to increase. The slightly inevitable consequence, given the power of the big players like Amazon, will be price pressure on the service deliverers and therefore probably less care. The delivery vans are routinely over programmed each day and surprise, surprise most companies use transits as they are not required to have a tacho to monitor driver hours and rest periods, not to mention speeds. I spent some time working in logistics management so I know a number of the 'compromises' being made.
  12. A further harness from John has been acquired, this time a P/J wired V/V/T and now fitted. Can you believe it, it arrived quickly, was easy to fit and improved the tones my limited talents can generate. Outrageous.
  13. Which RW did you buy, was it one of the 50's?
  14. I keep staring at this one, so please do me a favour and buy it! http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Precision_Roadworn.html
  15. What about the jack socket, would that require switch cleaner?
  16. The value of anything is only what somebody will pay for it, so if XYZ bass can be sold for £ABC pounds then that's its value, whether that's perceived to be good or bad value is sort of by the by..
  17. Here is the promised picture. Having had a bit of a measure I think this one runds from around 120-145 cms or so. I hope that helps everyone.
