  1. It's an interesting topic. I very first bass was a rough(ish) Squier Affinity P. Nowadays I do like my ACGs with two p/ups and a filter preamp, probably about as far as you get from a P bass. Yet I have a black US Std P which I really enjoy playing and gets taken to gigs too. It seems like sometimes only a Precision will do. And/or a Jazz of course.
  2. I guess we'll have to wait for the blue strings to come out.
  3. Eve use Sapele on the neck and very nice to the touch it is too. No knowledge on Obeche I'm afraid, but I will endorse your view that tonewoods do have an impact on the tone, maybe not as much as the electronics and strings, but it's there.
  4. For the speed dial knobs shouldn't a small stud or similar in the body be present as a reference point?
  5. I didn't even know these existed.
  6. Yeah, but that yellow tone knob ruins it for me.
  7. I think some sets have different windings for bridge and neck but wouldn't like to have to defend that statement in court!
  8. One of these
  9. The Sadowsky aluminium items are pretty good imho. Two screws to secure plus sleeve for those slightly thinner pot shafts. They look and feel amazing and with the little white marker are dead easy to adjust. Definitely not a 'value' item though
  10. Has Prowla reported you to the Fake Fender Police yet?
  11. Thanks for the link!
  12. Thanks Dave, good idea.
  13. We have a largish vinyl item with brass eyes that is fixed to a curtain rail held by two old speaker stands. We use a few tie-wraps to secure it to the frame. I'd guess it's about 3m wide by 2m high, maybe slightly less. Sorry no pics to hand but it all folds down very nicely and goes up (and down) pretty quickly.
  14. Thanks folks.
  15. That is stunning. Is it one of the Mouradian (may have mispelt that) basses that Chris Squire used to use, albeit with a different pickup combo? I'd love to try one of these.
  16. My vintage Fender lives in its case but gets hauled out regularly to be played. I genuinely think instruments suffer from lack of use, I know my violins do. Aside form recordimg the serial numbers I'd also take a comprehensive set pictures of each bass as well.
  17. Those kind of images are bad for your mental and financial wellbeing. Please cease and desist.
  18. My first fretless was a Yamaha RBX270F which I picked up for £80. I ended up keeping it for several years as it was a really good bass to learn on. Yamaha make pretty solid basses in most of the price categories and quality seems to be very consistent too. Definitely worth a look if you can find one.
  19. Fair do's. Just a thought
  20. Have you tried ACG? Alan will build you a nice single cut.
  21. Doesn't do anything fom me I'm afraid.
  22. Big fan of the Fusion items myself.
  23. A very reluctant sale. This is the new shape California II in VM configuration with the P pickup in the usual orientation. It is one of a pair made for Classic & Cool Guitars last year that I rather bought on impulse and , as nice and versatile as it is, I tend to gig with my VS and TT more so it's a little neglected. Other than the pickup configuration and the block on the fretboard which are extra, it is pretty much the standard high quality German made Sandberg bass: Ash body with Maple neck and board, block inlays - pretty light at under 8 1/2 lbs in weight Fabulous neck with a 38mm nut width and a satin finish, so easy to move around on High quality Sandberg black hardware with lightweight tuners Natural satin finish on the body; also slightly unusual I guess as most of the natural basses seem to be in high gloss Unmarked as far as I can see 2-band EQ with active/passive option. The treble control acts as a tone control in passive mode Comes with the high quality Sandberg gig bag I would prefer to arrange some kind of delivery/collection/meet up if at all possible. I'm pretty flexible and willing to travel a bit if necessary. Courier would be the last resort and will be at cost to you. Attractively priced at £950 Here are some pics. Please let em know if you would like to see any more detail and I'll happily oblige. My feedback:
  24. Another vote for the Overwater by Tanglewood Classic Jazz. £150ish for a very nice bass indeed.
