1. Yes it is, they fit right into the same place and all the screw holes align nicely.
2. If 2TSB is non-negotiable then ignore this. There is 50s MIM P in black at Bass Direct for £600; it's been there for a while so a better deal may be available: http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Precision_MIM_50s_Special.html
3. Maybe have a look at a Sandberg VS, pretty good and definitely a modern take on the trad P. Or this: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/313189-acg-finn-4/page__fromsearch__1 Very much a modern style precision.
4. I really liked these when I had a set in a P bass: http://jlguitars.eu/shop/index.php?id_product=11&controller=product&id_lang=4 Good value and clearly made with care. Great packaging too!
5. Martin Barre is playing a fund raiser in Barnoldswick for 70 people on 7th November, managed to get a ticket.
6.
Rickenbacker 4003. Huge disappointment
For me too. I saved up for a year to buy one and persevered for another year trying to like it but ended up selling it (at a profit so not all bad!).
7. Just bought a harness from Chris. Excellent from start to finish, highly recommended BCer folks.
8.
It seems a lot of people share my experience in finding the P "just right", especially for rock or blues involving electric guitars. Some situations I can think of that theoretically may allow the J to shine could be:

A sparse song with acoustic guitar and light drums?

A slow ballad with clean arpeggiated guitar rather than dirty chords? (we do a song like that and I roll the P's tone all the way off and use my thumb but have thought using the J's neck pup could be good. Have tried it at rehearsal but when I'm concentrating on playing and singing it's hard to really compare the tone - would need to record both).

Songs where piano or other keyboard instrument are used rather than guitar?
I think the reasoning behind the scenarios is that the P seems to have strength alongside electric guitar chords as it manages to fill a space that fits in with that. Good posts so far
For these I would drift towards one of fretless basses.
9. Great to hear your story. Tread bravely.
10. I just rotate mine. I'm not sure that in the middle of a gig the punters notice the difference tbh. Currently on a P phase but will be J-ing shortly.
11. Love that, congratulations and welcome to the club.
12. Take a break and try something that is vaguely related, maybe some basic piano or a brass instrument?
13. For the covers band we all come up with suggestions, see what is doable and apply that most volatile of things, an audience perception filter. I think it would be fair to say we have a pretty reasonable right to wrong ratio so far. That having been said I think it's also fair to say we have some safe choices on the set list.
14. And responded. Now sold, thanks for all the interest.
15. Just sold Ed some strings. Super good to deal with and definitely in the Top Banana category of trusted Basschatters. Hope to see you in the spring.
16. Hi and welcome from one several in Chorley.
17. I don't know if they come in other varieties as the Hipshot site only lists Nickel, Gold & Black. So therefore they must be nickel I guess.
