1.
Thanks for the replies. So let's say I want to get as close to that tone as humanly possible, but without spending 3 grand on a bass that's too valuable to leave the house.
I've taken to gigging my '66 Precision. I purposefully went looking for a non-pristine item as I felt that having been played a lot it would hopefully/probably be a good'un. As such I feel it needs to be played (as it clearly has been all its life).
2. This is a great bass and I can only imagine how much of a wrench it will be for young Mr Eude (who is a top banana btw for those who may not know him).
3. For sale is my Radial Engineering Pro DI (passive box), with box and instructions. These are mega-sturdy well built things. Mine has been used for numerous gigs but is still in VGC. Only selling as doing different things with the PA now. These are about £100 new, offered at £70 incl. Special Delivery to mainland UK. Now sold elsewhere
4. Tapered strings available too if bridge is an issue, not sure where the taper sits in relation to the nut though.
5. And there's me thinking it was all in the fingers (I'm a massive fan of Jazz type basses for the avoidance of doubt)
6. Do we know roughly when stuff might be coming back?
7. I have the P Retro in an ACG bass, the deep boost (frequency selectable) and tone controls are your friend here. I find it very easy to adjust to get pretty much what I want. Alternatively you can set the control to mid boost and add the deep boost too. Which for what you describe may be the better option.
8.
Just picked up a rather nice used OLP 4 string and after a quick set up plays very nicely. What I can't work out is what EBMM say on their site - apparently their string to pickup distance is 4.8mm. Seems a bit far away to me unless that type of pup has a very strong magnetic pull. I've not actually had a bass with this type of pup until now so advice would be appreciated.
In the same 'budget Stingray' category I have just got myself an SBMM SB14 which will hopefully land this week.
9. For sale (due to frankly quite a surreal band meeting & 180[sup]o[/sup] change of musical direction to vintage stuff) is a set of set of NYXL strings for a 5-string bass. These are brand new and unopened and retail online at c.£40 + P&P new, offered at £30 posted UK mainland. Now sold thanks
10. Nice. Is this the one that Drew had in stock?
11. How much does the bass weigh please?

How much does the bass weigh please?
13. Congrats, my first gig on a fretless a few years ago was scary enough.
14. Phew, not just me on the font size then.
15. In the midst of all the opprobium and 'too cool for skool' stuff above, I thought the winner was refreshingly different and sung with feeling and passion.
16. Tried but didn't understand many of the questions.
17.
My first bass (I still own it) was a Yamaha RBX270F: Light weight, sounds great. Much better than the Squier VMJ I owned briefly too. I've seen them sell for peanuts on the used market too!
My first fretless bass was this, great value and pretty decent as I recall. I had it for around 3 years.
18. What's the string spacing at the bridge and the weight please?
19. There's the pickup Warwick put on some basses (Dirty Blonde I think) which is like two single coil p/ups stuck together, is that the one? Not sure what they sound like though.
20. Brilliant, thanks very much. Strings ordered
21. Anybody ordered any stuff with their points yet? I can't see how to redeem the points for strings etc as links go to what looks like a normal store asking for voucher codes etc.
22. I have the newer California II slightly smaller and lighter TT (Jazz pass) passive. I have ordered a VS in a custom colour do soon. Really well put together and a brilliant neck in terms of feel (for me at any rate).
