GSR180 is a Jazz type bass, but the bridge on the one in your pic doesn't look like a BBOT. It could have been replaced of course.

Deffo buy pre-loved. I've just acquired a 1991 SR1500 one of the early MIJ Prestige models for a few hundred £s, very well put together and still fully functional despite having been gigged a fair amount.

Adam and I had a lovely chat and It was so nice meeting with a member of the D'addario team. Thanks boys. Looking inside teh control cavity I'm not so sure about the coloured lacquer, I think it may be oil or wax so I shall proceed with caution.

Hi all Just acquired a 1991 MIJ Ibby with a nutral finish, possible oil or wax but not sure. It's in pretty good condition but I'd llike to give the bass a bit of general clean etc. What's the bast way to proceed with body as I can't see anything specific about the original finish? Bass finally landed on Friday. Had 10 minutes noodle and took it to a gig as I thought I might try a couple of songs with it; ended up playing it all night. I think one of Jon's looms is a given. There are a few pickup options, but check that you don't get the ones that are the same length for each 'half' e.g. the Aguilar ones. Chromes feel a bit stiffer to me. I prefer the TIs or for a cheaper set the Fender 9050CLs feel OK. I think the Fender strings are made by D'Addario so not sure why they might be so different to Chromes but to me they feel 'easier' to play.

I think the market is a bit odd at the moment in any case. I have had things on here doing nothing, then I pop them on evilbay with BIN & best offer and they have in the majority of cases sold for more that advertised on here. Even more odd that after fees etc I still made more that the price on here in at least half the cases. We're talking about 8-9 items overs the past 6 months. There's no doubt you get a wider audience, but maybe BC is not always the best place anymore. What do others think?

I think for me it would be my first proper bass, a pre-loved Spector Legend in Black Cheery; one of the original Legends with the P/J p/ups and 3-band EQ before they split the line into two versions. Sentimental reasons, but still a nice bass.

[/quote] No strong reason to do so, but I note that the new set (themselves not brand new) have noticeably more 'life' and tone in them. I think the old set would still be great for a real vintage sound on a fretted bass (not disposed of yet btw).
