All good points and I'm certainly not claiming any expertise in this area Have you tried the Ibanez forum?

What Surely a double necked bass of some description is the minimum requirement for proper prog?
-
I missed this, I will check it out. Thanks for the 'heads up'.

GSR180 is a Jazz type bass, but the bridge on the one in your pic doesn't look like a BBOT. It could have been replaced of course.

Deffo buy pre-loved. I've just acquired a 1991 SR1500 one of the early MIJ Prestige models for a few hundred £s, very well put together and still fully functional despite having been gigged a fair amount.
Well, a few things have happened since the arrival of my prize gear. My computer died, Death by Blue Screen. Fortunately I bought one of them warranty things that we usually ignore when making important purchases and it worked. I took delivery of a brand new replacement computer. It arrived as a new "empty" computer. So I had to have a friend of my son James Jnr, ya know, the one who destroyed my prize D'addario mug (more about that to come) install my copy of Windows 10 on my new computer. Now he has to try and retrieve as much salvageable information as he can from my old computer to bring me up to date. Now the important bit. I took delivery of another package from D'addario. It was a cardboard box and when opened, inside was a lot of packaging and another smaller cardboard box. I remembered my childhood birthday parties when we played Pass the Parcel and I was there once again, hoping that I could get to open the next bit of wrapping before the music started again. In silence I unwrapped the copious bubble wrap around the next box and quickly began to open that. I saw some polystyrene and swiftly lifted the lid to discover a polystyrene cube and nestling in the cube in its own fitted packaging was my new D'addario mug. Yes, yes, it was mine. Oh sweet bliss. My life is now complete, thank you D'addario. On Saturday I went into Rimmers Music in Leyland to meet with Adam from D'addario. He was doing a re-string day, I had one of my son's guitars re-strung by the team. I didn't need any personal restringing, I have quite a lot of new D'addario NYXL 45/100 bass strings. Adam and I had a lovely chat and It was so nice meeting with a member of the D'addario team. Once again thanks to D'addario for all that has happened recently and it was nice to touch bass with you (Did you see what I did there) touch bass. Oh BTW I have gigged my Aguilar amp and remain still shaking from the excitement.
Brief thread hijack On the PC side, I have just done the same with my PC and had a lot of fun trying to get Excel 2017 to open .xls files. If you have this problem let me know!

Thanks boys. Looking inside teh control cavity I'm not so sure about the coloured lacquer, I think it may be oil or wax so I shall proceed with caution.

Just acquired this rather lovely 1991 SR1500: [sharedmedia=core:attachments:238403] [sharedmedia=core:attachments:238402]

Hi all Just acquired a 1991 MIJ Ibby with a nutral finish, possible oil or wax but not sure. It's in pretty good condition but I'd llike to give the bass a bit of general clean etc. What's the bast way to proceed with body as I can't see anything specific about the original finish? Thanks in advance. Gratuitous pic: [sharedmedia=core:attachments:238403]

Bass finally landed on Friday. Had 10 minutes noodle and took it to a gig as I thought I might try a couple of songs with it; ended up playing it all night. Spec is (I think) One piece Padauk body 5pc Wenge/Bubinga nec Ebony board Gotoh hardware IBZ US pickups (I think these were made by Di Marzio) Ibanez Power Curve EQ (which I'm getting my head around)

I think one of Jon's looms is a given. There are a few pickup options, but check that you don't get the ones that are the same length for each 'half' e.g. the Aguilar ones. Talkbass thread here: https://www.talkbass.com/threads/replacement-pickups-for-fender-5-string-precision.887726/ There's some stuff in this thread too: https://www.talkbass.com/threads/squier-vintage-modified-precision-v-whos-got-one.1011452/

Scott is a very nice guy, he's on here as All Thumbs.

Chromes feel a bit stiffer to me. I prefer the TIs or for a cheaper set the Fender 9050CLs feel OK. I think the Fender strings are made by D'Addario so not sure why they might be so different to Chromes but to me they feel 'easier' to play.

I think the market is a bit odd at the moment in any case. I have had things on here doing nothing, then I pop them on evilbay with BIN & best offer and they have in the majority of cases sold for more that advertised on here. Even more odd that after fees etc I still made more that the price on here in at least half the cases. We're talking about 8-9 items overs the past 6 months. There's no doubt you get a wider audience, but maybe BC is not always the best place anymore. What do others think?

What bass do you regret selling? Was it love?

I think for me it would be my first proper bass, a pre-loved Spector Legend in Black Cheery; one of the original Legends with the P/J p/ups and 3-band EQ before they split the line into two versions. Sentimental reasons, but still a nice bass. -
Why? Have they gone off somehow? Or is it more of a precaution against fatigue breakage or something?
No strong reason to do so, but I note that the new set (themselves not brand new) have noticeably more 'life' and tone in them. I think the old set would still be great for a real vintage sound on a fretted bass (not disposed of yet btw).

Rate the bass above you; the guilty pleasure edition.

OK, interesting looking bass. I feel the headstock might need to echo the body shape a bit more maybe? For me something like this but as a 4-string and with some different wood options: -
Me too, great to meet you all and thanks to the organisers once more. Just to set the record straight the bass jam was not my work, I was hiding behind a pillar.
-
I'm just about to change a set of TIs that are about 4 years old.

That's great to hear. I love it when that happens. -
Pics will of course follow.
